Message from
Mr Martin

Dear parents, students, and staff,

Campus Principal I hope you are as excited as I am for what
promises to be a fantastic week full of
Amazing Learning.

Please do remember the two big events we have this week – the inaugural Art Auction on
Thursday at 5pm and International Day on Friday. Both will be brilliant events and I can’t wait
to share our students' creativity at the Art Auction and the hard work of our parents and wider
school community at International Day. It is during weeks like this that I am reminded how
blessed I am to work in an International School as exciting as Tenby SEH, few fields provide
such rich cultural and creative experiences as part of the workday!

I attended a conference last week with all ISP Principals here in Malaysia and members of the
regional ISP team, and I am thrilled to report that we all have renewed focus on developing
and improving learning in our schools through collaboration and shared ideas. We are very
lucky to be a part of such an innovative and fast paced schools’ group and I believe 2022-23
will be the most exciting year yet in the journey of Tenby SEH. We have exciting developments
coming in many areas of the school, but the central focus of everything we do is of course the
students, and their learning. As the return to normal offers an increase of opportunities to get
out of the classroom and out of the schools itself, we are looking for a hugely exciting next
academic year

I do hope to see many of you around the campus on Thursday and Friday!

Hello Dear Tenby Family!

Head of Primary Its that time again, another round up of the
fun stuff from Primary, and what a fortnight it
has been, so much Amazing Learning
happening as we rush towards the end of this
academic year.

The children have participated in the Language Department’s Dragon Boat Festival
art and craft design activities and have thoroughly enjoyed them, as well as lots of
different activities in the classroom.
The School Council have been working hard designing and putting into practice
their Toy Drive to help those children less fortunate than themselves and our Art
Auction is well underway.
Booking for PTC slots will open today Monday, you can come either in school or
online, and our teachers are busing writing the end of year reports (gulp!)
International Day is heading our way too, and I know many of you are working hard
on that, and we would like to give you a great big thank you for all of your efforts. I
hope to see all the children in their lovely costumes, and maybe some parents too!
Our end of term assembly will be on Friday 5th July (early I know) and during that
time we will be celebrating our children’s success’ and presenting our first end of
year awards.
The last week of term we have some lovely things planned (more info to follow) and
then that’s it till next academic year, I don’t know where this year has gone!

Anyway, hasta luego, adieu, until the next time

MeMssraJgeefffreryom

Head of Secondary Dear Tenby Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are into the
final half term of the school year, with
only three weeks of learning left. We
have all came through a great deal this
year, from the Covid-19 challenges to
launching so many exciting student

programmes and initiatives.

With Assessment Week now in the rear view mirror, we are looking ahead to so
many exciting events left in the term. Our Art Auction will be held next Thursday
afternoon and parents are more than welcome to attend and put in their bids for
some of the amazing student work. In addition, we are also celebrating our
International Day next Friday and the school is a buzz with talk about the Fashion
Show. Finally, we also have HADO day on July 8th and encourage students to
register for this exciting event that integrates virtual reality into a PE activity.

Although Assessment Week is over, there is still some stress amongst students with
Term 3 report cards to be issued soon. We hope to see many parents during the
upcoming parent – teacher conferences online, so that amazing learning can be
celebrated, and next steps can be constructively discussed.
Have a lovely weekend with friends and family, we hope to see you on campus for
the upcoming events.

Early Years Amazing Learning

The Reception children have been looking at the phase ‘Find My Pattern’ in maths. We have been
exploring ‘doubles’. We learnt that doubling means twice as many or two of the same! We explored
this concept by drawing dots on ladybirds. We can show doubles by drawing the same number of
dots on both sides of the ladybird. We also had a go at making butterfly doubles by painting some

dots on one side of the wing. Then, we folded the paper to replicate the paint print on the other
wing. We opened the butterfly again and we now have the same number of dots on the other side of

the wing. Superb learning from RE class!

Early Years Amazing Learning

In the IEYC's Weather Wonders unit, Nursery children learnt about the sun. For one of the
activities, the children enjoyed creating a sun catcher out of a paper plate, sheet protector and
coloured paper. On the coloured paper, the children drew some shapes. Then they had to paste
the coloured paper on the sheet protector. As we wanted the sun to shine through some parts of
the sun catcher, the children did not completely cover the sheet protector with coloured paper.
The children were excited to bring their sun catchers to the field. They were able to see the sun

shining directly through the centre of their sun catchers. Well done, NT children!

Year 3 Amazing Learning

This week, Year 3 children carried out a simple investigation to find out how plants grow in different
habitats. They worked in groups and conducted their experiment. At the end of this week, they will be

collecting evidence for their hypothesis.

Year 6 Amazing Learning

The Year 6 students learned about ‘compound words’ recently in English lessons. To develop
these compound words the classroom environment and its resources provided the inspiration.
Students developed many compound words. Though mistakes were made, students showed
resilience by not allowing those mistakes to define them. Instead they picked themselves up and

learned from their mistakes. Hence, they make amazing strides not only in learning the
compound words but improving their pronunciation and finding more precise and concise word

choice.

Prefects

Throughout this term, the Prefects have displayed excellent teamwork when they assisted students and
teachers in need by dividing their tasks and responsibilities among themselves. They meet once a week to
discuss how and what they can improve in the future. Additionally, they demonstrated good leadership and

cooperation skills while taking the initiative to carry out their duties more effectively. Good job!

Special Events - Primary EdTech

The Primary EdTech team have been working very hard to create amazing work which we will
be sharing with all of you very soon! The Minecraft team are in the midst of creating a Tenby

world within Minecraft Education. The photography & videography team have been
recording clips of the school and interviewing students and teachers for a special video!

Dhanyah from the Microsoft-365 team has been working on a behind the scenes
presentation about the EdTech team. See the snippets below to learn more about the

Primary EdTech team members!

Special Events – STEM Day

On 27th May 2022, the Primary school celebrated STEM Day. The purpose of STEM Day was to
inspire children to pursue and explore their interests in science, technology, engineering and

maths.
One week prior to STEM Day, the Primary students were given a challenge. They had to make
creative things using cereal boxes. We received so many outstanding creations from Early Years to
Year 6 students! 3 winners emerged from the STEM Challenge. The challenge winners from each
key stage were: Early Years – Sujandran (NE), Key Stage 1 - Vehana (1N), Key Stage 2 – Oliver

(6T).
On STEM Day, each key stage took part in various activities. Early Years were given the task of
creating junk boats using recycled items. Then, they had to test to see if their boats could float on

water!
Year 1 and 2 took part in the ‘Walking Water Experiment’ where they observed coloured water
travelling through paper towels. They saw that the colours mixed together to make a new colour

as it travelled along the paper towels.
Year 3 made ‘Popsicle Bridges’ where they had to use popsicle sticks to make a bridge! Then,

they had to test the strength of their bridges.
Year 4 made towers using only 7 newspaper dowels and masking tape. Their towers needed to be

a free-standing structure and they were tested for their strength.
Year 5 & 6 were given two options; a) build a balance scale using a paper towel tube or b) build a

paper roller coaster using only five A4 paper.

Staff of the Week

Mr Jason Leong

Did you know that while we are in the classrooms, there are wonderful members of support staff
toiling behind the scenes to make sure the school is running smoothly and learning can take
place?
Mr Jason is one of those VERY important people, who you may never see but goodness, if it
weren’t for him there would be no school! He is our IT Manager and his main role is ensure the
smooth running of the school in terms of IT, and make sure the school data is kept safe and

private, ensuring it is free from tampering and that at the touch of a button the right person can
access the right data.

Mr Jason has been with us for almost two years and prior to working at Tenby SEH he was Senior
Network Administrator at Matrix Global School.

As an IT boffin, Mr Jason loves to explore new tech in his free time and investigate coding and
gaming.

He was born in a nice little town called Seremban, located in Negeri Sembilan and since he was
young, he has been amazed by science , technology and engineering. He likes art too, and enjoys

drawing comic characters such as Superman, Ultraman and Dragonball Z, and he likes to
build/assembly toy race car (with electronic motors).

He believes that the world started from Big Bang and that we are not alone in the Universe.
A fun fact about Mr Jason, is that he is thrilled about computer stuff and can write 5 different

programming languages: Java, C++, C#, VB.net and Python.
I for one think he is fantastic, and he helps me a lot!

Learner Attribute

This week’s Learner Attribute is Communication, which is the process of sending and receiving
messages through verbal or nonverbal means, including speech, or oral communication; writing
and graphical representations (such as infographics, maps, and charts); and signs, signals, and
behaviour. More simply, communication is said to be "the creation and exchange of meaning."
The ability to communicate is a key skill, and the better we are at it, the better our quality of life is.

We begin communicating from the moment we are born; letting our mothers know we have
arrived with our first cry. As a child develops, it is important we nurture their communication skills,
so they are capable of expressing themselves, clearly and confidently, in all aspects and areas of

their life. If we consider the stages of a child's development: they communicate first with their
parents, then with siblings and friends, and then with other adults such as their schoolteachers. A

child will learn to communicate by watching and listening to their parents, and then mimicking
their words and actions; the more you communicate with your child, the earlier and quicker they
will develop these skills. So as parents and caregivers, and educators we are the role models of

our children and how the communicate.
Like any skill, communication skills can be developed and refined with practice, but by helping
develop good communication skills in a child, we are equipping them straight away with the skills

to build a successful future.

The Language For Learning

A long time ago we had a competition to design posters for our Language for Learning and
the wonderful designs created by a whole family Oliver Tham (6T), Olivia Tham (10E) and
their Mom Ms Sim Lee were the winners. We love them and feel that they are a perfect

representation of our Language for learning.

Updates from
Secondary School

English Department

In Year 8, we have been learning how to analyse language in various texts. Before
starting a new poem, students conducted a media investigation, where they applied
their knowledge and skills in current affairs and identified how they affect society’s point
of view. They worked collaboratively to explore articles on their area of interest (crime

families, sports, celebrities and etc). Here are some examples of their media
investigation.

Math Department

Languages Department

Science Department

This term in Secondary Science, the Year 9s learned about Variation and Inheritance. Learning about
variation among the species would be incomplete without the students getting an insight into, and

appreciation of
the great English naturalist, Charles Darwin. As part of this learning, Year 9 students were asked to do

research on Charles Darwin and his expedition to the Galapagos Islands.
The students made their own booklet, poster, slides, etc on the topic that demonstrated their amazing

learning about Charles Darwin and how his journey to the islands led to the concept of variation and
eventually, evolution.

Some of the students amazed me by combining their science research skills with their other IT skills – some
of them created websites with interactive content, and one student even created a webpage with links to
various resources on the topic. This was a surprise as all they were asked for was to combine their findings
into any digital form - but the students went above and beyond expectation by combining their skills across
two subjects. They have demonstrated learner attributes such as creativity, initiative and communication (of

learning) while completing this task.

Humanities Department – History

In a lesson recently, class 9E collaborated to better understand the battle and fall of Singapore during World
War 2. In this activity, students sorted out a number of reasons why the Japanese defeated the Allied forces.

From British weaknesses to Japanese strengths, the students discussed how to categorise the information
and then debated about what were the most significant reasons. These photos show student collaboration,

and we also included a photograph of Ssanjey, who was extremely proud of the learning!

Creative and Performing Arts –
Drama

This week we have begun preparing for our iGCSE Drama scripted performance, The Curious Incident of the
Dog in the Night-time. In these photos, we can see Y10 students brainstorming and rehearsing the opening

scene.

PE Department

A HUGE well done to our students (Primary & Secondary) who participated in an interschool football
tournament at Tanarata International School on June 18. They all played EXTREMELY well and made us at

Tenby SEH very proud.

They were very committed, and showed resilience, cooperation, teamwork, creativity, communication,
initiative and leadership battling against the other teams without any fears. They showed a good fighting

spirit and collaborated with each other in order to win the game. We are all proud of you boys!!

Student Leadership Team

Recently, our student leadership teams – Student Council, Eco Committee, Prefectorial Board, Assembly
Team and EdTech Team SPIRIT – had the privilege to highlight their organisational initiatives to the ISP
Group Head of Teacher Professional Learning & Development. Ms. Marianne Yong-Macdonald, whose
presence and feedback was met with much enthusiasm, was enamoured and floored by the students’
impressive presentations.

CCA – Interior Design

In the Interior Design CCA, the students continuously explore their creative side and challenge themselves
to create 2D depictions of everything interior designing – from a complete living room to a piece

of stationery. The sky is their limit. Last week, they were given a timed challenge to create a few furniture
pieces with given themes. Their science teacher Ms Lavanya was invited to be the judge to select the best
work for each category. The pictures here were taken when students communicated their design and the

justifications of their idea to the judge.

Secondary Assembly by
Assembly Team

For the last Secondary School assembly, students and teachers accepted the ‘Cooperation’ Challenge.
Teacher and students work as teams to snap photos of themselves at designated spots!

It’s amazing to see everyone embracing our learning attributes while capturing memorable moments around
our exquisite school campus.

Check these out!

Secondary House Points

As the saying goes, it’s hard to break habits, but is this particular one bad? The Yellow house has
turned their determination up a notch and are still brilliantly leading the way with a ground-

breaking 5145 points, leaving the rest of the houses in the dust. The Blue house still has a few tricks
up its sleeve as it is now catching up with 4988 points, an astonishing rebound from their total of
4587 points. The Green house is not too far behind with a total of 4944 points, roughly 300 more
than they previously had in the span of only 2 weeks. Sadly, the Red House has gotten the short
end of the stick with 4927 points but is no doubt rallying their efforts to make a recovery.

In relation to the performance of the individual year groups, Year 7 is doing well as per usual with
4718 points, Year 8 is staying consistent with an amazing 5354 points, Year 9 is making their way
up in the world with 5901 points and Year 10 is delivering an astounding 4030 points. This is
especially remarkable given that the past week has been a hectic whirlwind of final assessments
and preparations for the Year 11 graduation, of which a notable number of KS4 and KS3 students

are a part of. Let’s bid a final farewell to the Year 11’s, who are leaving their mark on the school and
an open slot for this current batch of Year 10’s to take their place.

Overall, the houses have each prevailed in their effort to better themselves, regardless of the many
things the school has been preoccupied with as of late. The Yellow house in particular has

undoubtedly set their sights on reaching the finish line. However, the rest of the houses are not
going to turn tail and run anytime soon either.

Teacher Spotlight

What does Amazing Learning look like to you?
Amazing learning for me is a continuous effort from students
regardless of the ability. I personally encourage the students to
explore and make progress. Learning is not complete without
the effort and correction of error to improve their learning.

What do you expect from students in their learning?
I’m expecting students to be independent learners and push
their boundaries and limitations. They should not stop once
they have achieved their target grade as we wouldn’t know
their maximum potential until they work for it. Learning should
be fun and the students should plan their revision properly.

What is your favourite learner attribute?
My favourite attribute is initiative. I want my students to be
self-motivated and initiate their learning and progress. If the
students plan their work or revision regularly, they may achieve

beyond their potential in education.

A message to the student
Keep you mind open and explore every opportunity. Nothing is

impossible, even the word says “I’m Possible”.

Shre Kishen AP04879
As for now, Mr Aru teaches both business and economics for year 10. For me in this case.
I understood almost everything he teaches, and he always finds a way to make lessons engaging, and to prepare us for examinations, regardless

of difficulty. It’s a pleasure learning with him.

Bhaavanah H AP04433

I like the pace we are going at. It is not too slow or too fast. I like that we get many class discussion and the PowerPoint itself has questions for
us to answer in class. I like the method of teaching where even though the subject is purely theory-based, we do group activities and a lot of class

discussions. I also like that you always relate the topic to a current issue or any current brands, which makes it easier for me to understand
about the topic. I also like the recap Quizizz at the beginning of almost all lessons.

Nur Emily AP04429

Mr. Aru has improved my value of understanding in business and economics. He simplifies the material by using numerous scenarios and
connecting the ideas to real-life instances. Not only have I gained a greater comprehension of the subject, but I've also gained a deeper
understanding of the world. His desire to go above and beyond to help did not go unnoticed, and his excitement for teaching the topics keeps

things lively.

Aiman Shafiq bin Arizal
I love how entertaining you make the lessons, better yet you still make it informative and easy to learn. Appreciate all the lessons and energy in

the class

Safeguarding

Today we are looking at a communication tool called DISCORD that according to their
own website is a place “...where you can belong to a school club, a gaming group, or a

worldwide art community. Where just you and a handful of friends can spend time
together. A place that makes it easy to talk every day and hang out more often….”

What is Discord?
It is a VoIP and instant messaging social platform where users can communicate with
voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media, and files in private chats or as part of
communities called servers. A server is a collection of chat rooms and voice channels
which can be accessed via invite links. As of 2021, the service has over 350 million
registered users and over 150 million monthly active users. According to some sites
Discord is generally considered safe for young people to use because it doesn’t collect
any personal information that could be used against them in the future, like their name or
what city they live in, it’s a chat programme with voice and text features, but it does bring
its own concerns to the table, as outlined in our poster.
Social media networking sites are seen as being very ‘cool’ by children and young people,
and they may be pressured by their friends into joining them.
The sites don’t actually present any threats that don’t already exist elsewhere online. The
danger is that the threats exist in a new online environment you or your child may not be

familiar with.

As with most potential online dangers, the problems can start if your child doesn’t look
after their personal information properly.
