FROM OUR PRESIDENT FROM OUR PRESIDENT Kimberly Schlosser

Welcome to Theatre Aspen’s 35th Season! We have so much
to celebrate, and we are thrilled to be able to bring you another
unforgettable summer with three extraordinary and ambitious
productions that will make you want to visit our award-winning
theater multiple times this summer. As always, we have something
for everyone: a timely and relevant work of art, Ragtime, the beautiful
and impactful play, Our Town, and the fun and festive musical,
Godspell. These three timeless stories will set the stage for our 35th
Anniversary and create much buzz, so spread the word and get your
tickets early.

Along with our highly anticipated Summer Season, I am extremely
proud of our Theatre Aspen School (TAS) education programs and musical workshops. I hope you
will support our hardworking, young actors by attending performances of Mary Poppins Jr. and
Madagascar. Speaking of education, our Apprentice Program, in its sixth year, continues to attract
the best, brightest and most talented college students from top musical theater and drama programs
from around the country. You can witness the immeasurable talents of these artists at the Apprentice
Showcase on Sunday, August 12th.

The past year and a half has marked a period of transition, albeit not the first one, for Theatre Aspen.
During this transition, like the ones before, it was necessary to to be thoughtful and examine who
we are, where we want to go, and what type of leader could take us there. Our Board showed its
dedication, strength, and admiration for Theatre Aspen in unprecedented ways. I am thankful this
transition led us to Jed Bernstein, our new Producing Director, who stepped into Theatre Aspen’s
leadership role with passion, unwavering confidence, and success. Jed’s endless knowledge, diverse
experience, and lengthy history in theater--including leadership positions with Bucks County Playhouse,
the Lincoln Center and The Broadway League--have helped create a vision for Theatre Aspen’s exciting
and attainable future. I look forward to being part of Theatre Aspen’s next chapter as we continue to
create, inspire, and achieve the impossible.

Thank you for sharing my love and enthusiasm for Theatre Aspen. For me, there is no place like our
magical Hurst Theatre, where the intimacy envelops you and transports you inside the story you are
watching unfold. Thanks to loyal patrons like YOU, our talented staff, dedicated Board of Trustees,
extraordinarily talented creative teams, actors, and crew members, the dreams we have been
courageous enough to pursue are becoming a reality!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Jed Bernstein FROM OUR PRODUCING DIRECTOR FROM OUR PRODUCING DIRECTOR

Dear Theatergoers,
Welcome to our 35th Anniversary season and thank you for supporting
theatre in Aspen, perhaps the most beautiful place to create art, imaginable.

My colleagues and I are always trying to deliver the highest quality
productions possible, and we hope you will agree that this anniversary
season will be very special indeed.

We promise to bring you “dramatically closer” to our productions.
“Closer” because producing “big” shows in the intimate Hurst Theatre
is uniquely exciting.

“Closer” because our acting and producing company embraces this
community and is embraced by you in return.
We hope you will see all that we have to offer this summer.
Celebrate Ragtime for its magnificent score and inspiring story.
Fall in love again with Our Town, perhaps the greatest of American plays.
Rejoice at the music of Godspell and its urgent call for a more tolerant and better world.
Be proud of our Teen Conservatory production of Mary Poppins Jr. and a summer education program that
serves nearly 300 students from up and down the Roaring Fork Valley.

Be grateful, as I am, for this extraordinary group of actors, musicians, designers, administrators, and
production team who all care so very much for Theatre Aspen’s success.

My deepest thanks to Kimberly Schlosser, our tireless and passionate Board Chair and her fellow trustees
for giving me the opportunity to lead these efforts.

Come be with us. Often.

Gratefully,

Jed Bernstein
Producing Director

“FOOD IS LIFE,” ACCORDING TO CHEF ALEX KIM of
Fusion Catering, a philosophy that Alex and his family
takes to heart at their home, Dragonfly Ranch.

Celebrating 23 years together personally and
professionally, Alex and his wife Laura work from their
energy efficient contemporary Fusion-designed home,
set amidst their 50 acres of agricultural land. Breath-
taking, panoramic views of Mount Sopris and the Elk
Mountain Range provide quality mountain life and
daily inspiration. A live-work philosophy, the Kim’s
onsite, commercial kitchen allows them time to work
on their farm, growing certified weed free hay, herbs,
flowers and veggies.

With thirty years of professional cooking and hospitality
experience, numerous awards and a devoted clientele.
If food is life, then, for the Kim’s, cooking is art, and they
put as much effort into designing custom menus as they
do in preparing and serving. “Fusion” best describes their
style of cooking, a harmonious blend of colors, textures,
tastes and aromas with techniques and sustainable
ingredients obtained locally and from around the world.

Thornton Wilder Biography & Chronology THORNTON WILDER BIOGRAPHY & CHRONOLOGY

Thornton Wilder (Our Town Playwright. 1897-1975) was a novelist and playwright whose works celebrate the

connection between the commonplace and the cosmic dimensions of human experience. He is the only writer to win
Pulitzer Prizes for both drama and fiction: for his novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey, and two plays, Our Town and The Skin
of Our Teeth. His other novels include The Cabala, The Woman of Andros, Heaven’s My Destination, The Ides of March,
The Eighth Day, and Theophilus North. His other major dramas include The Matchmaker (adapted as the musical Hello,
Dolly!) and The Alcestiad. The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden, Pullman Car Hiawatha, and The Long Christmas
Dinner are among his well-known shorter plays. He enjoyed enormous success as a translator, adaptor, actor, librettist,
and lecturer/teacher, and his screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt remains a classic psycho-thriller to
this day. Wilder’s many honors include the Gold Medal for Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and
the Presidential Medal of Freedom. More information on Thornton Wilder and his family is available in Penelope Niven’s
