Dear Parents and Carers,

Uckfield College wins another national award

We are thrilled to be awarded accreditation for ‘Transforming Practice in Quality Assurance’ by the Schools,
Students And Teachers network (SSAT). What this means is that our work here on ensuring that the quality of
teaching, learning, assessment, pastoral care and leadership is all highly effective. To achieve excellence in
these areas we quality assure the impact on students of what staff do. We evaluate our practices through
lesson observations, learning walks, work scrutiny, observations of PDT / assemblies, analyses of student
progress, evidence gathering conversations with staff and through student voice. To be awarded the
accreditation we were reviewed by another high performing school. Furthermore, the evidence of the impact of
our work on improving the education of our students was then moderated by the SSAT. SSAT’s Chief Executive,
Sue Williamson, said “For Uckfield College to be accredited for ‘Transforming Practice in Quality Assurance’ is a
real credit to their team and the quality of the work they are doing.” From my point of view, I believe this
award demonstrates that we work tirelessly to make sure that the learning experience here is of the very
highest quality and we always have students’ long term interests at the heart of everything we do.

Year 7 Youth Club

Due to financial cuts there has been no Youth Club in Uckfield on our site for a few years. About a year ago, a
number of community stakeholders (Uckfield Chamber of Commerce, Tesco, Youth Services, Uckfield Town
Council and Uckfield College) worked together to try and get one going again. The team have done brilliantly
and thanks to generous sponsorship there will be a Youth Club for Year 7 after Easter. We hope the Year 7s will
make the most of this opportunity and if it is well supported it will then be possible to sustain it beyond the first
year.

 

 
Careers in the Building and Construction Industry

There are hundreds of different careers and jobs that are involved in the design and construction of buildings:
architects, landscape designers, quantity surveyors, building control officers, IT consultants, environmental
officers, crane operators, bricklayers, carpenters, a wide variety of engineers and an equally wide variety of
finance roles, to name but a few occupations.

If any of our students are interested, there will be a series of educational visits to our new school buildings as

they are being built and opportunities to meet some of the hundreds of people who are involved. We have one

student who has already asked but I am sure there will be many more. Students who are interested should
