Dear Parents and Carers
We are now at the end of week 5 of Remote Learning and students across all year 10 and 11 are continuing
to engage with their lessons incredibly well. To aid students learning in lessons, the college has invested in
GoogleEnterprise which will allow teachers to replicate more of the activities they would be doing if in a
classroom (discussion, paired or group work etc). This will also aid teachers in checking students'
understanding of the work even more quickly, alongside the range of on-line learning resources we already
have (SENECA, Kerboodle, Google forms, Google Classroom, Hegartymaths etc). All of these tools will ensure
that if your child remains fully engaged in their learning they will be successful in acquiring the knowledge
and skills they require to be successful in whichever GCSE they are taking and are not behind their peers
when schools reopen fully.
Uckfield Qualities
Each term the focus of our assembly and PDT programme is to engage students with the values we want
them to embody:
● Kind and Respectful
● Curious and Ambitious
● Honest and Charitable
● Active and Mindful
● Resilient and Optimistic
Assemblies during lockdown are shared via Google Classroom during PDT and we would encourage you to
ask your child about them.
This term’s Uckfield Quality has been ‘ Active and Mindful’ and during this current lockdown this has taken
on more importance than ever. It is important students find time to look after their physical and mental
health, so please do encourage your child to have some exercise outside, no matter how cold and grey it
may look. We know that students are missing their friends, extended family members and school, so
spending some time looking after themselves is incredibly important.
Next term’s Uckfield Quality is to be ‘ Curious and Ambitious’ a nd with students starting term 4 continuing
with their Remote Learning, we know it becomes increasingly difficult to remain fully enthusiastic about this
way of engaging with lessons. Please do remind your child of the amazing progress they have made, that
hopefully schools will be open safely soon and that if they remain being active learners at home, they will
find the transition back to normal lessons all that much easier.
Y11 Futures Day:
This is the day we normally hold in January where students spend time exploring next steps in their
education and get forms to fill in to apply to Uckfield 6th Form. This day will be delayed until March. Date to
be confirmed.
Before I go I would like to remind all year 11’s that the work they are doing now and for the next 3-4
months will be key in helping staff assess their level of understanding and in awarding a fair GCSE grade.
When Ofqual and the DFE publish more guidance to schools around Teacher Assessed GCSE grades, we will
of course be in touch.
I hope you are all well and staying safe and just to say it was lovely to see so many of you on Year 10
parents evening.
Warmest regards,
Dan Wynne Willson
Deputy Principal

RTRL - Key Messages for Students- -
Students attending college must bring a face mask to college every day.
Masks must be worn at all times whilst moving between classrooms and at any other time as
requested by a member of staff. It is really important that students have a good supply of
masks and they have a fresh, clean one every day.
