We provide custom marker boards to restaurants FREE OF CHARGE. We cover the cost of the boards
and make a profit by selling ads on the boards to local, non-competitive businesses.
This is a simple, easy, lucrative business that can be done by anyone with basic sales/people skills. There
are 2 steps to completing a board - 1. Set up a restaurant that is willing to use the board for 2 years at
no charge to them. 2. Sell 6 to 10 ads to local businesses.

That’s it! Most projects can be completed in 2 to 3 days from start to finish and can earn you $1,750 -
$3,350 for that simple effort.

your sales up and running. In fact, everything in this guide is based upon over 25 years of experience in
selling to local advertisers on restaurant products.

Setting Up the Restaurant
The first order of business is setting up the restaurant that will use the FREE Board. There is no charge
to the restaurants so it’s pretty simple & easy. All we ask the restaurant owner to do is:

1. Display the Board for the next 2 years.
2. Sign the restaurant agreement that we can show the potential advertisers.
3. Tell us the local businesses they would like to see featured on the board.

Once the owner agrees to those terms, just sit down with them, get some referrals and have them sign
the restaurant agreement.

We want you to treat this as a referral business. If you ask for plenty of referrals from the restaurant
owner and the advertisers, you should never have to make a cold call.

Here’s how I set up a restaurant:
I approach whoever is the first person that greets me and tell them why I’m there. I’m not worried about
getting to the decision maker just yet. I’d rather have someone on my side that loves the board before
I even talk with the owner. Also, I generally carry the sample board in with me so they can see how
beautiful they are. This is generally what I say -

Hi, we give away custom erasable message boards like this one to restaurants like yours. There’s
absolutely no cost whatsoever to you because they are sponsored by a few local businesses. Who
would I speak with to see of you’d like one for your restaurant? Great, is (_________) in?

Hi (_______) as I was telling your cashier, we provide custom erasable message boards like this one
to you at no cost whatsoever. We let local businesses sponsor the board so we can provide it to you free
of charge.

We can customize it with your logo at the top along with any other information you’d like. All we ask
is that you use it for 2 years so the sponsors can get good value. Is that fair with you?

Great, now obviously we wouldn’t put any other restaurant on the board, but we also make sure
they are what I call “kid friendly”. That is we don’t promote any business that ALL your customers
wouldn’t be comfortable with. No adult themed businesses, bail bonds, tobacco outlets, liquor stores,
etc.

Is there anyone else in particular that you WOULDN’T want to see on the board?

Great, now let’s talk about who you WOULD like to see. Who do you bank with? Insurance? Pest
control? Realtor? Car dealer? Auto repair? Tire dealer? Jeweler?

Get plenty of referrals from the restaurant owner as well as advertisers and you will NEVER have to
make a cold call.

Selling the Ads
Once you have the restaurant that you want to work with, start calling on the referrals. Explain to them
that you are there because the restaurant owner asked you to call on them and see if they would like to
participate.

If you are a detail person and want to cover all the benefits, you can show them the sample of the board
and make sure you cover the following benefits of being an advertiser.

1. This is not a throwaway ad - it stays on display in the restaurant for the next 2 years - always there in
full view all day - EVERY DAY

2. We associate them with the restaurant. It’s like the restaurant owner personally referring his
customers to their business.

3. Exclusivity - We don’t accept competing businesses. If they are the jewelry store, they are the only
jewelry store featured. We eliminate their competition.

4. Price - Our price of $399 per 2 year term works out to about $16 per month. When you consider the
exposure, there is nothing that comes close to our value.

5. Local Targeting - The customers that frequent the restaurant live and work right in their
neighborhood. These are the best prospects they can possibly target.

OR, if you’re more of a “give them the overview and let them ask questions” type, you can just say it
like I do:

Hi (______________) I’m working with the folks over at (name of restaurant) and we’re going to be
delivering to them a custom marker board, like this one, in a couple of weeks. As you can see, we
have a few spaces available to promote local businesses. It’s only $399 and that’s for 2 full years, not
just 1. I was just curious if you’d like to be included?

Here, (hand them the presentation book with all the copies of actual ads) you can flip through this
and see some of the work we’ve done for others.

Now they might ask questions like “will I be the only body shop?” or “do I have to pay it all at
once?” That’s great because those are buying questions and it opens up the dialogue so you aren’t just
“pitching” to them without their input.

This is my preferred method, but make sure you use your own style and personality.

Business Categories
There are certain business categories that are prime prospects for advertising on the boards. Through our
experience, we have found that the top prospects are:

Referrals
The key to doing the most business in the shortest amount of time is the successful use of referrals.
Obviously you want to get referrals from the restaurant owner, but you can also get them from the
advertisers. After you’ve written up the ad and collected payment, just say to them:

“I really appreciate the business. By the way, who else do you know that might like to have an ad on
the board?”

After they give you a name, say “great, who else?” and keep saying that until they can’t think of anyone else.

Writing the Ad
Simple is almost always better when it comes to ad writing. The basic formula is this:
1. Business card information - location and phone number.
2. Logo - usually from business card, previous ad or letterhead.
3. Ad Copy - a line or 2 stating the most important things they want prospects to know about their business.

Tips: - Things like business hours are unnecessary unless they are unusual. If a retail store is open from
10 until 5, everyone already knows that. That’s when ALL retail stores are open so don’t waste ad space
mentioning it. However, if they are open 24 hrs. or until 9 pm on weekends, that’s out of the ordinary
and may be worth mentioning. The point is - don’t waste ad space stating the obvious.

Submitting Your Order
Step 1. - Once you have all information necessary for us to design the layout of your board,
either scan or take a picture of each of the advertising agreements and the location agreement (examples
attached on prior 2 pages). You can email all of the attachments together to:

Tip: When submitting graphics please remember the more clear and clean your picture is, the better the
ad will look. When photographing business cards and logo’s put the camera close and keep it still. Make
sure your lighting is good, as you do not want to have glares in your pictures.

Layout and Production
Step 2. - Once we’ve received your order, it will typically take a couple of days to get the layout
done. When it is complete, we will email you a copy of the entire layout, including the ads. Once the
layout is to your satisfaction, we will email proofs to your advertisers.

Step 3. - We normally give your advertisers 3-4 business days to notify us of any corrections or
changes. Once the deadline has passed, we will send the final layout to the printer.

Step 4. - Your board will typically ship within 3-5 days after it goes to print. All shipping is done
by UPS, and we normally ship directly to the restaurant unless you ask us to do otherwise. Normal time
in transit is 2-3 business days.

Total production time: 2-3 weeks (from the time we receive your order until the board is delivered to
the restaurant).

Payment is due when the order is placed. We accept check, Visa, MC, AMEX, Discover.

FAQs

Q. Do I always have to sell 6 to 10 ads.
A. No, but that should be the target. We will publish boards with 1 to 10 ads and any number in between. 2 ads
breaks even and everything else is profit, so keep that in mind when you’re trying to complete a project.

Q. What is the average time to complete a project?
A. 3-4 days is average. 2-3 is optimal. I suggest never taking over 5 working days. Take what you have at the end
of the week and move on. The fastest I’ve ever done 1 is 2.5 hours! It’s a great story. Ask me about it sometime.

Q. When you publish more or fewer ads, do the ads become bigger or smaller?
A. No. (Not usually anyway.) Instead of making the ads smaller, we adjust the layout.

Q. What if the restaurant needs a board of a specific size? For example to fit into an existing frame.
A. In that case we would usually accommodate the restaurant unless the requested size is too big. The largest we
can print & ship is 36”x36”.

Q. Do you ever call on “chain” restaurants?
A. We have a few boards in some very popular chains, but we suggest that dealing with “mom & pops” is easier
and more profitable in the long run.

Q. There is a “setup” charge on the rate card. Do I have to charge a “setup” charge?
A. No. The setup charge is there so you can give it away as a closing tool. You can charge it if someone wants to
split the payment.

Q. How much does your best distributor make?
A. A lot!

Q. How much does your average distrubutor make?
A. Not as much.

Earnings disclaimer: Earnings are determined by the simple formula “ability x effort = earnings”.
There is no way to measure your effort or ability in relation to others so only you can determine your income and,
by the way, that’s the way it should be. We have folks with great ability that earn a lot by little effort. We also have
folks that earn big with a lot of effort, even though the don’t posess great talent. If you have a high aptitude AND
you put forth great effort, you COULD easily be in the six-figure club.
