AROUND THE WORLD ON A STRING

with Bob DeLoss

Thursday, November 17, 2017
Entertainment: Banjo Boy Variety Band

“Music makes the world go round,” says
Bob DeLoss and Stan Walsh with their
new upbeat film, Around the World
on a String. It is an all-new innovative,
unconventional armchair travel adventure
film produced to satisfy the musical
wanderlust of all travelers. It includes
the haunting sounds of a bamboo harp,
the joyful sound of America’s banjo
instrument, audio pictures blended
with scenic panoramas and a back story
commentary about the location and the
talented people that brought us there in
the first place.

GERMANY & SWITZERLAND

with Marlin Darrah
Thursday, January 11, 2018

Entertainment: Charlie Maguire

Travel to Germany and Switzerland
with Marlin Darrah. In Munich, where
locals specialize in good living, you’ll
visit boisterous markets and go-for-
Baroque palaces. Heading into the
foothills of the Alps, tour the fairy-tale
castles of “Mad” King Ludwig. Then, we
climb atop the Zugspitze, the highest
point in Germany. Cruising the Rhine
River, you’ll dodge riverboat traffic and
the legendary Loreley. After climbing
castles and descending into dungeons,
you’ll relax with Rhine wine!

Filmmaker Steven McCurdy’s cultural
documentary, “My Private Italy” is a
personal journey through the sights
and sounds, people and places, and
the magic of everyday experiences
in mostly northern Italy. Adventures,
interspersed with old 8mm home movies
of Italy from the 1950’s and 60’s, take
us back to a bygone Italy. A message of
cultural preservation and the charm and
“enchantment of everyday experiences”
challenges us to enjoy Italy without
trying to change it too much and at the
same time to preserve and enjoy their
cultural heritage.

EAST AFRICAN SOJOURN

with Jessica Wunderlich

Thursday, March 15, 2018
Entertainment: Park Brook Elementary (afternoon)
Student Ensemble (evening)

South Sudan, the world’s newest country
is known for its long history of conflict,
famine, and tribal warfare, while its
neighbor to the south, Uganda has moved
past its own sordid past with grace and
open arms, growing into a country of “the
friendliest people in the world.” In an area
of the globe when the borders of sovereign
states and tribal lines are at constant
odds, where the juxtaposition of extreme
violence and extraordinary compassion
is nothing short of arresting one cannot
help but be moved by the tangled ballet of
opposing forces.

GUATEMALA: THE LAND OF THE MAYA

with Brent Winebrenner

Thursday, April 12, 2018
Entertainment: Banjo Boy Variety Band

Guatemala is a land of amazing natural
and cultural diversity that is just beginning
to emerge from the shadow of a long civil
war. A land with deep roots, anchored in
the mysteries of the Lost Kingdoms of the
Maya.
Guatemala: The Land of the Maya is
a beautiful travelogue that begins by
exploring the achievements of the
ancient Maya by visiting fabled places
like El Mirador, Tikal and Yaxha. This
documentary provides important context
for understanding and exploring the
fascinating Land of the Maya.

The Film Makers! Meet them in person!

Bob DeLoss has been giving film lectures since

he was 16 years of age. He worked his way through
college as a radio news reporter and has several
years of television experience. His films have been
shown in major cities across the country and have
been used in the production of feature films for
European television.

Marlin Darrah is the executive director of International

Film & Video, an award-winning production company
based in the U.S. Over the course of Darrah’s adventurous
forty-year career, over fifty travel-adventure companies,
educational organizations and universities have contracted
his producing, directing and shooting talents. Assignments
and productions have taken him to more than 130
countries around the world. Darrah is particularly skilled
at documenting unusual and intriguing cultural and
geographical subjects.

Steve McCurdy has directed and filmed

in over twenty countries working as an
independent filmmaker, producing for private
and corporate organizations. Appearing in
person to share his experiences, Steve has
a strong interest to understand how people
discover and find meaning in their lives, and
believes that life has meaning regardless of
circumstances.

Jessica Wunderlich is an up-and-coming

visual artist whose evolution from still photography
to filmmaking has resulted in a richness of
storytelling that reaches far beyond the confines of
the camera. Her work meanders through conflict
and adventure, beauty and harsh realities, from
the Dark Continent of Africa to the moonscapes of
high-altitude Peru to the ancient cities of Israel.

Brent Winebrenner is a widely published

photographer and filmmaker with experience in
over 70 countries. His publishing credits include
The Splendor of Cuba, a Rizzoli coffee table
book that was recognized as one of the 10 best
photography books of 2011. A reformed CPA
and business consultant, Brent dropped out of
the corporate world to pursue a life of travel,
photography, and visual story telling.
