Welcome!

Message from the Executive Director

Brian Siverson-Hall

I am thrilled to be entering my 7th year as the District 279 Executive Director
of Community Engagement and am proud of the high quality programs our
Community Education department offers serving community members from early
childhood through adulthood.

Our Community Education department includes robust programming and services for every learner from Adult Basic Education,
Early Childhood & Family Education, School Age Care, Adult & Youth Enrichment, Facilities, Volunteers, Printing Publications
and Enrollment. We just completed an amazing summer season with thriving youth programs, GED graduation, driver’s education
for our high school students, and ended with a fun run with Kidstop and the District 279 Foundation to support our media centers.
These summer programs served over 5,500 participants!

Our wide variety of courses allow you to Embrace the Season by trying out classes that peak your interest. We have several new
class options including: wine bottle windchimes, mosaic decor, French history, and new classes on mind and body wellness. Our
Community Education department’s purpose is to create opportunities that positively impact our whole community through
innovative and responsive programs and services. Sign up for a class, try something new, meet some fellow community members,
and Embrace the Season!

As always, if you have questions about programs or suggestions for the future, please reach out to one of our Community
Education staff members below. We are always happy to serve our community and meet the needs of our lifelong learners.

Wastebasket Revue 2018 thDisoanm’t maziisnsg
show!
51 Years of Entertainment!
In the fall of 1967, a group of Osseo teachers began working on the creation of a “variety show”
to accomplish two goals:
1. Raise money for scholarships for Osseo Senior High students going on to college; and
2. Provide an opportunity for teachers new to both District 279 and to teaching, to meet their

peers outside of the buildings in which they worked.

Today, nearly 300 dedicated and talented employees of ISD 279 including teachers,
custodians, principals, cooks, secretaries, educational support professionals, and
administrators will entertain you in the show of the year! Numerous community members
give their time to the Wastebasket Revue organization as well. Today, the purpose of the
show remains the same; to raise money for scholarships awarded to graduating seniors
of Maple Grove, Osseo and Park Center Senior High Schools for post-secondary
education. Over $1,180,000 has been raised for 820 scholarships since 1967!
Tickets go on sale starting in early March.
