PAGE 52 AZ COURIER NEWS MARCH 2024 ANNUAL GATHERING OF GOLDEN RETRIEVERS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY It is almost time for the Annual Gathering of Golden Retrievers. It is hard for me to believe that this will already be the fifth annual event and it keeps getting bigger each year. The free event will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Red Mountain Park, 7745 E. Brown Road in east Mesa. What’s unique about this event is that each year a different dog-related charity is selected to be the recipient of some type of donation. The event harnesses the enthusiasm of Golden Retrievers and their owners getting together and giving to good causes. This year the local charity is Chandlerbased, P.A.W.S.S. and we are collecting training treats — as well as donations of cash or checks. BY RENEE BELLEFEUILLE P.A.W.S.S. stands for Pups and Warriors Side by Side. They provide disabled veterans, first responders and qualifying family members assistance with training their dog to become a certified service dog. The website is pupsnwarriors.org. I really enjoy putting this event together each year and work to make it bigger and better each year. Attendance has grown since the first event in 2020. Last year over 90 Golden Retrievers attended. I expect we will set a new record this year. Activities planned: Raffles; games; prizes; musical sit; parade around the park; Golden Retriever T-shirt contest (wear your favorite T-shirt featuring a Golden); and group photo — fun for you and your Golden. 5th Annual Gathering of Goldens Saturday, March 23, 2024 – 10 AM to 1 PM Red Mountain Park – 7745 E. Brown Road, Mesa, Arizona I heard over 90 Goldens attended last year! Raffles – Games – Prizes Musical Sit – Parade Around the Park Golden Retriever T-shirt Contest (wear your favorite T-shirt featuring a Golden) Group Photo - Fun for you and your Golden! For more information text or call event host: Renée Bellefeuille @ 602-793-9434 This is an on-leash event. Dogs must be up to date on vaccines, pet and child friendly It’s always a fun time! Could this be the largest Gathering of Goldens in Arizona ever? Raffle tickets: $2 each or 3 for $5 The event is free but please considering participating in Goldens Giving for a Good Cause. This year we are collecting training treats or cash/check donations for Pups and Warriors Side by Side, a local non-profit that provides Service Dog Training to Veterans, First Responders and their Families!
