-13- R3A Route R3A is an international highway that connects Thailand, Laos, and China, spanning approximately 1,240 kilometers from Chiang Rai to Kunming. It is a crucial route for both trade and tourism, particularly in agricultural products and the tourism sector. The route passes through significant checkpoints in all three countries, including Chiang Khong (Chiang Rai, Thailand) - Huay Xai (Bokeo Province, Laos) - Vieng Phoukha -Luang Namtha - Boten - Mengla -Jinghong - Kunming (Yunnan Province, China). The total distance is 1,240 kilometers, with a distance of 240 kilometers between Huay Xai and Boten, and 1,000 kilometers between Boten and Kunming. This road is considered a vital transportation route for importing and exporting goods between Thailand and China. Major goods include fresh vegetables, fruits, frozen fruits, processed fruits, spices, herbs, and various consumer products. Its strategic importance lies in agricultural products, especially vegetables and fruits, due to China's policy that allows imports of vegetables and fruits only through nine seaports and two border trade cities, namely Youyi and Bohan. Hence, this route plays a significant role in exporting Thailand's agricultural products. It is alsoa cost-effective and shortest distance route.
-14- Additionally, apart from its economic significance, the R3A route serves as a cultural and tourism link. It provides opportunities for Thai tourists to travel to southern China and opens doors for business investments and various projects, particularly in the Golden Triangle area. It contributes positively to all three countries in terms of trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.1 1 https://www.thansettakij.com/content/399795
-15- Laos - China High-Speed Rail The high-speed rail line connects the capital city of Laos, Vientiane, with Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province in China. The route passes through various stations and cities, providing efficient and convenient transportation between the two countries. - Speed: 160 km/h (99mph) - Running Length: 1,022 km - Duration: about 10.5 hours, including the time for custom formalities - Stations: Kunming South, Pu’er, Xishuangbanna, Mohan, Boten, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane2 The high-speed line has opened up a new transport route from Thailand to the vast market of mainland Chinese. In the past, transportation of goods between China, Laos, and Thailand was time-consuming due to poor road conditions. However, the Laos-China railway has cut travel time to 10 hours, benefiting the transportation of perishable goods such as fruit and other foods. 3 2 https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china-trains/laos/ 3 https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40026761

The market has parking facilities for 800 cars and 5,000 motorcycles. It is a single-story market with a relatively spacious atmosphere, not overly crowded. The surrounding buildings have signs written in Chinese. Interesting items to explore at the market include Laotian and Chinese fabrics and blankets, available in various grades and prices that can be negotiated based on the customer's bargaining skills. Most of the vendors are Chinese and Vietnamese, while it is relatively difficult to find authentic Laotian vendors.
