Network Setup

Select MENU or SETUP from the front panel of the DVR. This will display the MENU screen.
Select ADMIN for the USER and enter the ADMIN PASSWORD.
The default password is 1234.
This will display the ENTERING SETUP screen.
From the ENTERING SETUP screen select SETUP and select ENTER from the DVR’s front
panel. This will display the MAIN menu.
Scroll down using the arrow keys of the DVR’s front panel to select SYSTEM. Then select
ENTER from the DVR’s front panel. This will display the SYSTEM menu.
Scroll down using the arrow keys of the DVR’s front panel to select NETWORK. Then select
ENTER from the DVR’s front panel. This will activate the NETWORK menu.
From the NETWORK menu, configure the following settings to setup DDNS.
To move the cursor within the menu use the arrow keys (▲▼◄►). To select an entry,
user the ENTER key. To change a selected entry use the arrow keys (▲▼◄►).
1. Turn the DHCP option ON highlight the APPLY button press ENTER then
RETURN. The dvr will prompt to restart. Select OK and wait for the dvr to
restart.
2. Return to the network settings screen using the steps above. IP address should
now be automatically generated.
3. Turn the DHCP option OFF
4. Turn the DDNS option ON
5. Ensure the WEB SERVER option is ON
6. Change the last section of the IP ADDRESS and change it to the desired
address
Normally this will be 50 (192.168.1.50) or 150 (192.168.1.150)
7. Check the DDNS SERVER field and ensure that it is set to DDNS.DVLINK.NET
8. Ensure that there is an entry in the 1ST DNS SERVER field. This entry cannot
be the default 127.0.0.1.
DNS Server settings are supplied by the ISP. If you are not sure of the setting
and this DVR is connected to a router, use the routers IP in this field. In most cases,
this is the same entry as the GATEWAY.
9. If there is more than 1 DVR attached to the same router port 6100 can only be
used by 1 DVR, so any remaining DVR’s MUST be changed. Use port 6101 first
then 6102 and so on.
Remember to set the router’s firewall to allow inbound traffic on the correct
internal IP address and the correct port numbers.
10. Move to the APPLY button and select ENTER. Select the RETURN button from
the front panel of the DVR to exit the DVR’s menus and reboot. After reboot, the
DVR configuration is complete
If you will be setting up this DVR for use with a dynamic ip address you will also need to look
up the DVR’s MAC address.
You can view the DVR’s MAC address from the SYSTEM->SYSTEM->SYSTEM
INFORMATION menu of the DVR.
Setting up Remote Agent
First you must install Remote Agent onto your computer. There are currently 2 ways to install
the software.
Windows XP/2000 only
1. Insert the CD that came with the DVR
2. Open MY COMPUTER and double click on the remote agent setup icon.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Windows Vista/XP/2000 only
1. Go to the website www.costarvideo.com
2. Click “REMOTE AGENT FOR WINDOWS VISTA NOW AVAILABLE”
3. If prompted click RUN or OPEN
4. Double click the Remote Agent setup icon
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
The First time you use Remote agent you will need to enter your DVR’s information.
1. Open Remote Agent by double clicking the icon on your desktop
2. Click the Local Settings button
3. The Following Screen Will appear:
4. Right click site and choose ADD GROUP
5. Type a name for the location you are setting up and click OK
6. Click on the folder under SITE and enter the following information into the DVR
INFORMATION fields on the right:
a. Name: Site Name
b. IP/DOMAIN NAME: (i.e. 00115fdc11ad.dvrlink.net or 69.77.23.45)
c. Port: 6100 (unless changed in step 9 on page 3)
d. User ID: ADMIN (all caps) unless more names have been added
e. Password: 1234
7. Under CAMERA ASSIGNMENT enter the numbers 1-8
8. Click the ADD Button
9. Click the OK Button
Using Remote Agent
To open Remote Agent and connect to your DVR
*You can see a text label for each button by pointing at it with the mouse*
1. Double click the Remote Agent icon on your desktop
2. Choose your location from the drop-down menu on the right
3. Click the CONNECT button
