Materi Expressing of Asking and Giving Opinion Kelas XI

TRANSACTIONAL TEXT

Transactional text is text used to relate to other people with the aim that we get what we want from
using the text (to get things). A transactional text is a dialog that you need to do if you want to get
something done or get an information. ex: at a bank, buy something, etc.
Transactional Text: Planning, Prediction and Willingness
Transactional texts are speech acts that are used by someone to obtain and convey desired information
that is optimal and efficient. Transactional communication is message oriented, integrated and accurate

3.1 Planning

"Planning (also called prior thinking) is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities
needed to achieve the desired goals. Generally understood as a set of temporary actions intended
through which people expect to achieve the goals." (Wikipedia, accessing August 26, 2013)

Based on the above quote that planning is a speech or speech act that contains the activities required
and will be carried out within a certain time to get the desired goal. In this case, the speaker tells the
listener about what he will do (speaker) as in the following short dialogue.
X: Where will you go tomorrow after school?
Y: Hey Jack. How about you? We will go fishing to Lake Toba
X: May I?
Y: Never mind, we are fine if you want to be with us.

In addition, the plan also includes remarks aimed at informing the deferred action in advance which is
something the speaker wants to do in the future because in the past he has made the decision to do so.
Situation: A man named John attended the Chine culture conference last night.
Annie: Why did you attend the conference Mr. Wong
John: I will learn about Chinese culture

The conversation above tells us that, John already had the intended action that was delayed
beforehand so that he did something that he thought could fulfill his purpose of getting to know Chinese
culture.

Speeches / actions that use "... will ..." are expressions intended to inform the listener that something
has been thought about, decided before said (discussed), and will be done sometime in the future. .
Based on the linguistic form, generally to state the plan always uses news (affirmative) sentences. This
test has a high chance of happening because it is something that is delayed and there is still an intention
to do it.

3.2 Predictions
Prediction is guessing something that happens in a certain way. When you flip a coin and take a head,
you make a prediction that the coin will land. There is a fifty-fifty chance that you can be right.

Based on the above definition it can be obtained that language in transactional communication
certainly has a social function. Predicting is a speech or speech act addressed to the speaker that tells
the listener (reader) that something will happen in the future by paying attention to the signs that
already exist.
Example:
[a] According to the newspaper, there will be a cultural festival early next month.
[b] According to the newspaper, there will be a cultural festival early next month

The two examples above tell us that, the signs will become a cultural festival, can already be known
from clear sources namely newspapers. Speech acts that contain "will" and "will go" can be used to
express predictions about something that will happen. Based on the linguistic form, generally to state
predictions always use news sentences (affirmative). This sentence can also begin or end with common
phrases such as: I think, hope, wonder, hope ... maybe, maybe, maybe, I'm sure ..., I predict, etc.
Example:
I think Fiona will like it here.

The use of one of the two, or alternately will not cause differences in meaning. The opportunity or
probability for prediction is not greater than planning because this is the act of guessing the utterances.
.... prediction is the assumption that something happens in a certain way. When you flip a coin and take
a head, you make a prediction that the coin will land. There is a fifty-fifty chance that you can be right.

Example:

Situation: In Call of the Wild, a dog named Buck is kidnapped. He is big and strong, and he is treated
well by his wealthy owner.

My Prediction: Buck will try to run away and return to his owner.

3.3 Willing

According to ardictionary.com, that "willing" means being ready to do something; spontaneous
intention. Intent is a transactional speech act that aims to express the desire to the listener (reader)
that the speaker will do something that he never thought of and has no prediction about what will
happen later.

Example:

Susie: I don't understand this problem.

John: Ask your teacher about that. He will help you

Based on the above example, it is understandable, that John has no reason to ask Susie to ask her
teacher. John also has no calculations or predictions whether the teacher will help him or not (maybe
he does not know the teacher so he is not sure). In this case the speaker is not more confident than
prediction or plan. The possibility of this intention is not greater or equal to predictions let alone plans.

Based on the form of language, generally states the intention to always use news sentences
(affirmative). Speeches / actions that use "... will ..." are expressions aimed at telling the listener that
the speaker sees someone's intention to do something. In this case, "will" is generally used to express
intentions and dreams while "will" declare obligations (www.englishgrammar.org).

Example:

"There is a doorbell." "I will go."

· If he does it again, I will break his neck! N

· Can you have it for $ 10. ‘‘ OK, I'll buy it. ’
