Communicating with Your Student’s Instructors

During the school closure, you or your student may need to reach out to an instructor. There are a few ways to do this.
Many teachers share their email addresses and phone numbers so students can email, call, and even text
them, so store that information in a safe, easily accessible place. Students can also connect with their instructors
through the Edgenuity Learning Management System (LMS).

Edgenuity

Once logged in to the Edgenuity LMS, click the envelope icon in the top right corner. This will open up an Email
Messaging menu, which shows messages sent through the LMS, and gives students the option to create and send
a new message. Click the New Message button to create a new email and add a recipient, a subject line, and the
message, then click Send.

Odysseyware

After logging into Odysseyware, should your student have questions, they can contact their teacher by clicking on
the Message icon in the top right corner of the page. After clicking on the icon, a page will open up for a student to
compose a new message and send it to their teacher.

Monitoring Your Student’s Progress

We encourage you to take an active role in your student’s learning experience with Edgenuity. To help you do that, we offer access
to family portals so you can check in on your student’s progress at any time, as well as receive regular delivery of progress reports
directly to your email account.

Edgenuity

We offer a Family Portal to help keep you informed of your student’s progress. Within the Family Portal, you can see
how long your student worked on their Edgenuity coursework, the number of activities they completed, and their
grade in each of their classes.

To receive access to the Family Portal, send a request to your student’s teacher by providing your student’s first and last name,
your first and last name, and your email address, and request your unique access code. Once the teacher configures your access,
you will receive one email from Edgenuity with a link to the Family Portal, and another from your child’s teacher with your unique
access code. Click on the link, then enter the access code and your email address, and create a password.

After the initial setup, you can log in with your email address and password at any time to review your student’s progress.

PROGRESS REPORTS
In addition to the live data available on the Family Portal, you can also receive daily, weekly, or monthly Progress Reports via email.
To do so, contact your student’s teacher and provide them with your student’s first and last name, your first and last name, your
email address, and how often you want to receive the Progress Report (daily, weekly, or monthly).

READING AND UNDERSTANDING PROGRESS REPORTS
Knowing how your student is performing in their courses is important, so we want to make sure that you not only have access to
that information, but also know how to interpret it.

At the top of the report, you’ll find the course name, as well as the course start and target dates. The target date is the date by
which all coursework must be completed.

In the Course Completed section, you’ll find the following information:

ƒ Target Completion: This ƒ Course Completed percentage: This ƒ Color-coded completion squares: The colors in the
square blocks represent your student’s progress:
indicates how far along in the number indicates what percentage à Red indicates your student is falling behind.
à Blue indicates your student is on track.
course your student should be. of the course your student has à Green indicates your student is ahead of schedule.

completed, working toward the goal of

100% completion.

Beneath that section, you’ll find the Overall Grade. This percentage represents the grade your student has acquired thus far in the
course based on all activities and assessments completed, and the squares are color-coded to allow you to quickly understand
your student’s progress:
ƒ Red: Grade is between 0 and 59 percent.
ƒ Orange: Grade is between 60 and 69 percent.
ƒ Yellow: Grade is between 70 and 79 percent.
ƒ Olive: Grade is between 80 and 89 percent.
ƒ Green: Grade is between 90 and 100 percent.
To the right of the Overall Grade box, you’ll find more
information, including:
ƒ Complete Count, which indicates the percentage of

course activities that your student has already completed.
ƒ Relative Grade, which is the grade your student would receive if they stopped working and received 0% for all unfinished activities.
ƒ Actual Grade, which is the overall grade adjusted for progress if your student is behind.

making progress in their learning. To access the Parent Portal, navigate to the link provided by your school. Set your
password, and then log in by entering your email address and password. Then click the Ready, Set, Learn button.

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Family Members,

To help ensure your students can continue learning, your district has partnered with Edgenuity® to offer virtual learning during a
school closure. This partnership means that students have access to guided instruction delivered by educators and/or assigned
lessons to work on independently. Virtual learning may be new to you and your students, so the following tips can offer structure
and support to you both.

Virtual Learning Basics

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW FROM MY STUDENT’S SCHOOL?
ƒ Know when and how often students should log in during the day, or if they need to be online at a specific time for live, teacher-

led instruction.
ƒ Make sure your student is aware of the requirements and expectations for virtual learning.
ƒ Find out when teachers will be available for student support and what options exist for extra help.
ƒ Students may need to set aside additional time to complete assignments offline.

WHAT ARE SOME TIPS FOR PREPARING MY STUDENT TO WORK AT HOME?
ƒ Designate a comfortable place free from distractions as a work area for your student.
ƒ Offer structure, such as focus time, to increase engagement and promote progress.
ƒ Ensure your student has access to Wi-Fi and a charged device, such as a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. *Note: Consult your

school or district as appropriate if you need assistance providing a device.
ƒ Periodically check in on students throughout their virtual sessions to make sure they’re actively working and learning, and in

case they need additional help.

At-Home Support for Virtual Learning

The following questions can help students understand that you’re invested in their education and that even though this form of
learning may be different, they’re still expected to work and learn. Consider asking your student:

ƒ Do you have any questions about what you learned yesterday before getting started today?
ƒ What did your learning focus on today?
ƒ What did you accomplish today?
ƒ Did you find anything challenging today? If so, how did you overcome the challenge?
ƒ How can you apply what you learned, and/or what personal connections can you make to your learning?

For all learners—especially younger students—we recommend frequent monitoring and hands-on assistance as needed from
those providing the at-home support. *Note: If you have questions or cannot offer at-home support, reach out to your school or
district for guidance.

We are here to support you and want to assure you that even though your students may not be going in to school every day, they
can still receive a high-quality and engaging education that moves them forward in their learning.

Your partner in education,

Edgenuity
