Dear Friends, Daniel C. Bosket
President 2019 - 2022
Students are back! We selected this theme for our Annual

resumed our traditional programming, and we were thrilled to
welcome over 200 guests in-person to our High Notes Gala and

2022 Annual Appeal
Dear Friend of the Foundation, HONORARY
CAMPAIGN
Over the past year and a half, I've had the pleasure of talking to many people COMMITTEE
who support Allentown School District (ASD) students and teachers through ASD
Foundation initiatives. Those of you who are alumni often talk about the fantastic Fire Chief Efrain Agosto
teachers and coaches you had and programs that shaped your life. I've learned Rob Bennett
about the experimental Opportunity Program that fostered creativity, problem Donald Bernhard
solving, teamwork, writing and critical thinking. You've shared memories of exciting Dr. Dennis Blankowitsch
field trips, seeing Shakespeare on stage, and learning to type or speak another Lee A. Butz
language at an early age. You talked about opportunities you got in life because Hon. Edward N. Cahn
you played football, were in the band, or were active on the newspaper or Hon. Charles W. Dent
yearbook staff. You explained that you give back now because you got a break or Scott V. Fainor
a great start in life thanks to someone or something in the Allentown School District. Jeff Glazier

Thank you for sharing these stories. You are telling me that we are doing the right Judith A. Harris, Esq.
thing by focusing the work of the Foundation on giving students experiences. Our Tonya M. Harris, Esq.
programming is designed to have students doing things: science experiments, Louis Holzman
Latin dancing on a stage, authoring and illustrating a book, joining a team, cast, or John G. Hughes, Jr.
musical group. Our Teacher Innovation Grants enable educators to try something Peter J. Kareha
new – to use their creativity to advance learning in exciting and engaging ways Kay Kurtz
– similar to the exciting experimental programs that were so memorable from the Ruth Howard Marcon
1960s and 1970s. These experiences give students a chance to develop a love of Anthony M. Muir, Esq.
learning, a skill, and maybe even a passion. All of this becomes possible through Michael W. Pessina
generous financial support from the community. Michele K. Pessina

The Allentown School District Foundation (ASDF) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit Linda A. Rosenfeld
corporation committed to providing transformative experiences for the District's Rob Schmidt
16,311 (as of 10/3/22) students. Since 2009, the Foundation has raised more than Robert E. Sperling, Jr.
$8.1 million dollars from generous donors like you. This year we have combined our Dr. John S. Stevens, Jr.
Annual Appeal with the mailing of our Annual Report so you can see highlights of Carol Watters
our programming and how your dollars are spent. This decision was also made to
reduce printing and postage costs, using your gifts more efficiently. Please help us
in our efforts to increase communication with less expense by sharing your email
address at https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/DiALXSX.
Thank you for reading our Annual Report. Please consider making an investment
in today's children through a tax deductible gift using the envelope included or
via our website (https://asdf.allentownsd.org/donations). On behalf of the ASD

Sheriff Joe Hanna

TIG Students are innovators!
Teacher
Innovation Grants
Teacher Innovation Grants (TIG) have offered educators the means to try
something new giving ASD students enriched learning opportunities since the
first grants in 2010. Since then, more than $162,000 has been granted to 164
ASD educators. TIG grants provide funding for teachers, school counselors,
coaches, and nurses to develop original in-class or extracurricular projects
that inspire students to go beyond routine day-to-day learning. Grant recipients are chosen on a competitive
basis with grants of up to $1,200 per applicant.
This year marks the Foundation's first endowed TIG award,
the Mrs. Finizzi TIG for English Literature and Journalism.
Mrs. Marguerite Finizzi was a longtime teacher at Harrison-
Morton Middle School (1956-65), Dieruff High School (1964-
1976), and Allen High School (1976-1996) where she was
also adviser to the Inklings literary arts magazine and The
Canary school newspaper. This endowment was established
through a gift of Mr. William Choi, WAHS '92, in honor of the
25th anniversary of Mrs. Finizzi's death. Mr. Choi served on
The Canary and Inklings as Editor-in-Chief, and his time with
Mrs. Finizzi shaped his life. This gift will ensure a TIG for English
Literature or Journalism is awarded each year.
Since TIG is one of the Foundation’s most impactful programs, Kimberly Youwakim & Student (Sheridan ES)
we are especially grateful for donors and sponsors. With a Student in Mrs. Galusha's class (Dodd ES) (pink)
sponsorship of $1,200, a TIG grant can be underwritten with Edgar Allan Poe impersonator at Trexler Middle School
an individual, family, or business name to publicly recognize
support of ASD educators and students.

Dear Friend of the Foundation, Swan Lake
Muhlenberg
Over the past year and a half, I've had the pleasure of talking to many people
H O N O R A R Ywho support Allentown School District (ASD) students and teachers through ASD
CAMPAIGN
Foundation initiatives. Those of you who are alumni often talk about the fantastic COMMITTEE
teachers and coaches you had and programs that shaped your life. I've learned
about the experimental Opportunity Program that fostered creativity, problem
solving, teamwork, writing and critical thinking. You've shared memories of exciting
field trips, seeing Shakespeare on stage, and Olewalsrning to type or speak another Fire Chief Efrain Agosto
language at an early age. You talked about opportunities you got in life because Rob Bennett
you played football, were in the band, or were active on the newspaper or Donald Bernhard
yeUanrdbeorotkh estSaefaf. You explained that you give back now because you got a break or Dr. Dennis Blankowitsch
a great start in life thanks to someone or something in the Allentown School District.
