Elderbank Early Years Newsletter
May 22nd 2020

Dear Parent/Carers,

I hope you and your family are safe and well. The Early Years team
continue to be delighted to speak with you and your child each week
and receive feedback from the challenges, including the wonderful
photographs you share. Thank you for your engagement and we hope
the tasks and challenges are helping to keep your little ones occupied.

This week’s challenge will be delivered in a different format and
instead of receiving it in your email inbox it will be delivered to your
letter box at home instead. Please share any photographs of your
child/children participating in the challenge, we would love to see how
you get on. As Monday 25th May is a holiday and Tuesday 26th May is
an in-service day there will be no phone calls from Keyworkers this
week. You will receive your special delivery challenge via post and a
milestone task will be sent out on Wednesday 27thMay.

You will receive your child’s progress report via email. This has been
completed by their Keyworker and is based on observations and
evidence gathered prior to the school closure in March. The
Pre-School report format is assessed upon North Ayrshire Council’s
Milestone approach and will be shared as a transition document with
their new Primary 1 teacher. If you have any questions relating to the
reports then please do not hesitate to ask.

All of the tasks which are sent out each week are linked to these
milestones and will support your child to continue their learning
journey. As will all of the play opportunities and life experiences they
are involved in at home.

During conversations with parents/carers we recognise that there
are worries surrounding the children who are transitioning to primary
school. Please be reassured that all of the staff involved in this
process are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that this will
be a positive experience for the children. Please find a link to the
BBC Bitesize website which has lots of information for both
parent/carers and children on how to support this transition at home.

Please find information below from the North Ayrshire Speech and
Language Therapy team who provide a helpline service for
parents/carers in relation to communication and language concerns.

The helpline is now open twice a week on a Wednesday and Thursday
afternoon and is great way to speak directly with a speech therapist
regarding any questions you may have. They can offer valuable advice
and this service is open to everyone including those who are on the
waiting list, considering a referral and those who have an identified
therapist.

As always the Early Years team are here to support you and your
family, if we can help in any way then please let us know.
Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Carruthers,
Senior Early Years Practitioner
