Welcome Carmel Valley Ranch’s New Managing Director MEET THE MANAGING DIRECTOR VOL. 39 • SEPTEMBER 2023 Carmel Valley Ranch Membership Newsletter MEET THE MANAGING DIRECTOR PAGE 01 Dear Members of Carmel Valley Ranch, As the new Managing Director of Carmel Valley Ranch, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you how excited I am to be back in Carmel - I spent three years here as General Manager of the Highlands Inn more than 20 years ago before moving onto other Hyatt properties. I’m joining The Ranch after five years at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, in Nassau, Bahamas, and nearly 40 years with Hyatt. In fact, I’ve actually traded positions with Peter McMahon, The Ranch’s previous Managing Director who is currently enjoying the Bahamas! Meanwhile, my wife Julie and I are reacquainting ourselves with old friends and familiar Monterey Peninsula landmarks. We’re also trying to get back into the swing of things with golf and look forward to tasting new wines from the Valley! Carmel is one of my favorite places, and that really means something coming from me. Not only have I worked in 13 different hotels across North America and the Caribbean, I was born in Germany, spent my childhood shuttling between the U.S. and Europe, graduated high school in the Philippines, studied at UC Santa Barbara, and got my hospitality degree at Florida State University, headed to Chicago, and seemingly been on the move ever since. As the General Manager of Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, CA, we started the Club Membership there. I’ve been here only a short time and have met many of you already and I have appreciated your warm welcome. I am looking forward to meeting you, and the opportunity to work with our Club Members here at Carmel Valley Ranch. I’m honored to be joining this wonderful team.
