Little Cranberry Lake

Little Cranberry lake is located in Kingston, Ontario. The Lake is surrounded by Forests, some farmland
the town of Seeley’s Bay, and several cottages, including my family cottage. The town is very small and
very peaceful and sparsely populated with a population of only about 250 people. There is also an
abundance of wildlife. The lake is full of different species of sunfish, bass, pike, catfish, and minnows.
There are also snakes, frogs, toads, herons, deer, raccoons, skunks, and tons of other animals. Little
Cranberry Lake wasn’t always a lake. The lake used to be mostly a shallow marsh but some parts of the
area were grassy fields, in the lake under the water, in some of the thicker swampy areas, you can find
some broken down pieces of fence from properties that used to be there. In the Rideau Canal there was
a dam built, this caused the land to flood creating the lake. There is an upper and lower lock so that
boats can pass the dam. The locks were made to section off the water and either rise or lower the water
level, to make it equal to the water on the other side of the dam, so that boats can pass through. Any
animals that used to live in the area before it was flooded, were either killed or they lost their homes to
because of the dam. The lake also attracted new species of animals that weren’t there before, these
animals need environments like Little Cranberry Lake in order to survive. Cranberry Lake is quite
beautiful, it has gorgeous views and scenery, and Seeley’s bay is famous for their fishing, and all the fish
caught in the Lake. There are also several historic monuments in the town.
