Special equipment to maintain the network
The Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicle is used
for the transport of work crews and materials
to and from work sites on the viaduct, tunnels
and stations to the depot, and consist of a self-
propelled rail vehicle with loading platform, air-
conditioned crew cab and hydraulic crane. The
vehicle can be coupled with the flat wagon or
to the shunting locomotive for rescue
operation.
The service vehicle is self-propelled rail/road
service vehicle fitted with couplers at front
and rear, compatible with the Infrastructure
maintenance vehicle with crane and the flat
wagon. The service vehicle can transport
maintenance equipment to any place in the
complete Blue Line system due to its ability
to drive on rail and street.

Recruiting and training of 850 new staff was carried
out over more than a year before the start of
operations. Staff were required in a variety of roles
including maintenance, station staff, train operators,
and control room operators.
Having the existing Blue Line in operation allowed new
staff be given top level training in real life conditions,
to ensure that they are all fully operational.
A train simulator allows train operators to be trained
in all the scenarios that they could meet on the line

Every single item of equipment has
been tested multiple times: in the
factory, after installation on site and
during system integration when all
equipment is tested together to
ensure that everything functions as it
was designed to.
Then, for several months before the
start of commercial operations, the
whole line is operated in realistic
conditions. This is known as Trial
Running and it ensures that any
remaining bugs are ironed out before
the public comes on board.
