INVITING ALL GENERATIONS INTO A GROWING LIFE WITH JESUS CHRIST
WELCOME Pastor Kellen Smith
CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Do you remember your last supper before the pandemic?
The last meal you had out at a restaurant with friends?
The last meal before fear and anxiety ran the conversation?
If you had known it was your last, would you have lingered?
Would you have ordered dessert?
Would you have held your friends’ hands
and told them how much you loved them?
If you had known, would you have washed their feet?
Tonight we gather together, because this night was the beginning of the end.
This night was Jesus’ last supper with his disciples.
Take a moment to imagine how Jesus must have felt.
Friends, with all of this in mind, I invite you to join me in our opening words:
All: Tonight we will hear, again and again, of a love that knows no bounds.
May we be fully present here.
May we worship holy God.
CONGREGATIONAL SINGING Hymn 769 For Everyone Born
For everyone born, a place at the table,
for everyone born, clean water and bread,
a shelter, a space, a safe place for growing,
for everyone born, a star overhead,
Refrain:
and God will delight when we are creators
of justice and joy, compassion and peace:
yes, God will delight when we are creators
of justice, justice and joy!
For everyone born, a place at the table,
to live without fear, and simply to be,
to work, to speak out, to witness and worship,
for everyone born, the right to be free, (Refrain)
POEM “Until That Day” | Prayer by Rev. Sarah Are
A Sanctified Art, LLC | sanctifiedart.org
We cannot shake hands right now. We will be eating together.
We cannot hug or kiss cheeks. Maybe we’ll be hugging.
We cannot lean in to tell stories Hopefully there will be dancing
Or draw close to pray. And laughing and kissing
We cannot pass the peace And leaning in to tell stories,
Or even pass the time in each other’s homes. And throwing our heads back to laugh.
We cannot eat together, But until that day,
Because the world is sick. I will wiggle my toes,
And think of footwashing.
So instead of holding each other, I will eat sweet bread,
We hold distance. Ravenously,
We hold masks. And remember Communion.
We hold statistics on the tips of our tongues. I will close my eyes,
We hold fear, And picture your face.
We hold space,
We hold tense conversations. I will clasp my hands
And know—
Maybe by the time you’re reading this, As sure as one palm knows the other—
The day will have come That we are being held.
For all God’s people to be gathered at Table. We are being held together.
Maybe by the time you’re reading this,

WASHING OF FEET & CENTERING PRAYER
- Take turns washing the feet or hands of the people in your house.
- Wash your own feet or hands as a sign of loving service to yourself and others.
- If you prefer not to wash, you can simply meditate on Christ’s love for you,
and your own call to loving service

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
