PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Charles William Gaw

June 1, 1932 - July 24, 2021
Long-time Wheaton resident Charles William Gaw, known to friends as
"Chuck," passed away on July 24, 2021, at the age of 89.
Born in Middletown, Ohio, June 1, 1932, Chuck attended Northwestern
University, where he met his sweetheart, Jayne. He enlisted in the Armed
Forces and served for two years at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas, earning
medals for Good Conduct and National Defense Service before returning
to Ohio to marry Jayne in 1955. After graduating from Millikin University
in 1957 with a degree in mechanical engineering, he worked as a quality
assurance engineer for companies including Rex Chainbelt and Sears
Roebuck.
Since moving to Wheaton in 1964, Chuck remained an active member of
the First Presbyterian Church throughout his life. Following his retirement,
he volunteered for various organizations including Stephen’s Ministry at
the church, the Clearing in Door County and Klein Creek, where he did
period woodwork. He served on the board of the Dartmouth residents’
association before moving to Wyndemere. He and Jayne deeply enjoyed
travel and friendships with the Happy Timers.
A lifelong learner and exacting craftsman, Chuck enjoyed photography
and woodworking, as well as spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and
hiking. But most of all, he loved being with friends and family, who will
lovingly remember his sense of humor and his unfailing generosity with
his attention, time and talents: he made special efforts to remember im-
portant details about the lives of people he cared about, and never visited
family or dear friends without bringing along a well-stocked toolbox for
making repairs—and a few good stories or “Dad jokes” to tell.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Harold P. Gaw and Sarah C.
Swander, and in-laws Samuel J. McLaren and Helen Morehead; his sister
Sarah G. Royall, brother-in-law Willis Calhoun Royall, and daughter-in-
law Gina Marano-Gaw. He is survived by his wife, Jayne, daughter
Catherine (Tim Beach), son Tim, grandchildren Cecily (Johnny) Lopez
and Steven (Emily Popp), nephew Tom Royall (Joanne) and niece Beth
Royall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your church or
favorite charity.

Immediately following the service, you are invited to Stewart Hall for
refreshments and time with the family provided by the Board of Deacons.
