CALL TO CONFESSION Jordan Stevens
Director of Student Ministries
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, giver of life and forgiver of sin,
We come to you now with hope –
Hope that you will always redeem us,
Hope that you will not hold our sin against us,
Hope that you will turn us around from what is evil,
Toward what is good.
Walk with us in this and every day, and help us
To look clearly at our lives and the world,
That we may embrace all with love.
Through Christ we pray.
Please continue in silent prayer for confession of personal matters.
D ECLARATION OF GOD’S PARDON
Leader: Friends, believe the good news of the gospel.
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

The Word
WORD IN SONG We Come to You for Healing, Lord by Ruth Elaine Schram
Summer Singers
Dan Sommerville, Director
We come to you for healing, Lord, of body, mind, and soul.
And pray that by your Spirit’s touch our lives may be made whole.
As once you walked through ancient streets and reached toward those in pain,
We know you come among us still with power to heal again.
You touch us through physicians’ skills, through nurses’ gifts of care,
And through the love of faithful friends who lift our lives in prayers.
Through nights of pain and wakefulness, through days when strength runs low,
Grant us your gift of patience, Lord, your calming peace to know.
We come to you, O loving Lord, in our distress and pain,
In trust that through our nights and days, your grace will heal, sustain.
We come to you for healing, Lord, of body, mind, and soul.
And pray that by your Spirit’s touch our lives may be made whole.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Jordan Stevens
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Pastor’s Bible Study
“Jesus Feeds the 5,000”
Matthew 14:13-21
This summer series takes a closer look at the
Sunday school stories we are most familiar with,
either from teaching them or being taught them
when we were kids. As we zoom in for a closer
examination of these stories, we will see how they
fit into God’s overall story in the Bible and how
they inform our understanding of the gospel.
Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in Stewart Hall
The letter to the Romans stands as the clearest and most
comprehensive presentation of Christian doctrine in all the
Scriptures. Join us weekly for this summer study as we
explore the theology and life application of Romans.

Thank you for supporting the children this year!
PADS, Public Action to Deliver Shelter, is an ongoing mission of
First Pres. We have been involved for nearly 30 years and continue
to evolve with the needs of those most desperate in our community.
Nearly 30 houses of worship have hosted overnight guests, requiring
thousands of volunteers. But Covid brought a dynamic shift, and now
all the guests are housed at the Interim Housing Center in Downers
Grove. The former Red Roof Inn on Butterfield Road is used for
counselling and can accommodate over 300 clients which allows for
all counselling to be handled in one location and alters the volunteer
needs. You will read about new opportunities to help those most in need
in coming weeks.

Statements will be mailed this week to those who
do not have an email on file. If you would like future
statements sent via email, please call or email the
church office to provide an email address. Contact
Beth Spiegel with any questions.
