What is Financial Literacy?

• The ability for postsecondary students to use
knowledge and skills to make good decisions
related to budgeting, borrowing, and
repayment strategies.

Why is Financial Literacy
Important?

• Americans owe more debt on their student loans than they do on their
credit cards.

• Americans spend more than they earn, the time to save is now.
• Students who default on their student loans, damage their credit scores

which negatively affects employment opportunities and lower loan rates.
• To sustain financial well being of individuals and their families.
• Enable individuals to make informed financial decisions and plan for

unexpected financial hardships.
• Learn how to build a budget that works for you, to ensure your goals and

dreams are attainable.
• Take control of your debt before it takes control of you!!!

NON-PAYMENT POLICY
•At the beginning of each semester, the balance from a previous semester is due in full before registration can
be completed.
•If the balance from the previous semester is not paid in full there will be a 'Transcript Hold and a Financial
Services Hold‘ placed on the student account until ALL balances have been paid in full. The holds will prevent
access to grades, transcripts, and records.
•At the beginning of the semester, if a student does not have sufficient aid to cover the balance, a student
may elect to sign up for a TouchNet Payment Plan. The plan will allow the student to pay the remaining
balance in 4 equal installments.
•There is a $100 Deferment Fee that will be applied to the first installment payment.
•If a student has not completed registration by the 'Purge Period’ the student will be removed from their
classes, prohibited from entering the dormitory, restricted from accessing online classes, and barred from
accessing the functions of their JSU SUPERCARD.
•The only way to complete registration is to have all balance paid in full or set up a payment plan.
•There will be no exceptions -- this is the rule.
•Balances not paid in full by semester end will be sent to Heartland ECSI Recovery Select for collections.
