postponed from December. Peter thanked the members of the committee, and

all who help with the chairs, refreshments and raffle all of which is a great

help with the smooth running of our club.

 The raffle is a really good fund booster, so please continue to support this,
both with items for the raffle and of course buying tickets. Thank you.

 Peter stressed the need to have more volunteers to help run our club and also
asked that we encourage any friends or budding gardeners to come along to

our future meetings. We have included a programme of this year’s planned
events at the end of these notes.

 Our speaker at this Wednesday’s meeting was Professor Michael Shaw,
and although he said that GM crops were not his specific field of expertise,
he certainly entranced all of us and provoked quite a number of questions.
Mike was a very good speaker, who de-mystified our understanding of GM
crops. He later revealed that his subject is disease control. Mike was not a
paid speaker, we thank him very much for giving up his time and
expertise for our club.

 This month we welcomed new members, Jung & Peter, and Doreen, we
hope you enjoyed the meeting.

 We are pleased to announce that a monthly news letter will now be on the
web site www.mortimervillage.org.uk/mvp/index also a printed copy will be
found at Mortimer library. Sandra Jackson will include items of interest for
the current month. Any suggestions for items to be included would be
welcome, please contact Sandra on [email protected] or mobile
number 07889 139243

 The club is planning two trips this spring /early summer. Please put your
name on the lists as soon as possible: 1) RHS at Wisley in Surrey. Our
visit last year was very successful and an early summer visit this year will
show these wonderful gardens in a different light. 2) The Rycote Park
Estate in Oxfordshire. Please contact John for further details about this
one, it certainly sounds very interesting. We are also thinking about a
visit to a Vineyard near Wallingford and of course the trip to Highgrove,
(we are on a waiting list for this). Watch this space. Don’t forget it is your
club so please let us know if there are places you would like to visit this
year or in the future.
,

The annual R.N.L.I. plant sale, held at St Johns Hall, Mortimer are always
grateful for any plants that you may wish to donate, Peter suggested that a
couple of extra plants when you are sowing would be appreciated (a very worthy
cause). The sale is on Saturday 7th May, plants can be dropped off early from
8.30am, or the Friday afternoon.

 Our next meeting is 23rd March. Our speaker will be Steve Bradley (RHS)
and the subject is “Spring in the Garden”. The entrance fee will be £3.00
for this meeting.
Look forward to seeing you there.
