The four of us were tasked to decide on two social services in order of our live-in activities from the 18th of March until the 23rd of March. After some discussion, we went with the idea of teaching the kids how to pour their creativity through origami and helping the villagers in cleaning the environment. After we decided on our social services, we had presented our thoughts during the Integrated Learning class when the time was given to us. Then, we were given feedback regarding both activities. The teachers said that we needed to fix some parts of our social service plans for them to be improved. Soon enough, we had been planning the materials that we needed for our Social Services when the hamlet announcement happened, which unfortunately resulted in us being separated from one another. Since we all got separated into different hamlets, we had to improvise with the supplies that each of us had. Thankfully, all of us succeeded in completing our task of doing the social service activities. Sharing Experiences: An Overview of All Our Social Services For the Batur Duwur hamlet, the social service was for us to teach the children how to draw while also explaining the human body and helping a seventh grader do her homework. Before we had drawn together with the kids, thankfully, we had prepared the art supplies that were needed, like papers. After we drew together and had fun, we asked the kids about what they thought of this activity. They said it was very fun, exciting, and enjoyable because they got to draw themselves alongside getting some free rewards like crayons and pens. Meanwhile, in the Ngandong Hamlet, we had been teaching the kids that resided there multiple things ever since they all gathered on my house’s front porch. One of which is perhaps the most important in improving academic knowledge is learning how to speak English. Safe to say, the activity may serve as something rather enjoyable among the children, 06 ArtikelBahasaInggris

After completing this social service, we asked about the feedback and impact of the people we encountered during this social service. From the people’s perspective, we actually did a good job in engaging in the social service work, but there were a few problems that came up during this. The people there had told us to be more clear about who was teaching or talking to the children there so it wouldn’t confuse them. Other than that, we mostly received good feedback from both the villagers and the children there. From this social service, as a group, we learned how to interact with younger children, we got to share our interests with them and help them learn many new things. We also had been continuously engaging with the kids to enrich their skills during our stay in Ngargomulyo. Overall, we are very satisfied with the outcome of this live-in and our social services, even though we probably had some problems. despite my friends filling me in on how they were not quite good at introducing themselves using the foreign language. Nonetheless, I’m sure that the social service activities were well executed, and that the children could improve their academic and natural abilities. 07 Lastly, in the Bojong hamlet, we had to improvise with the supplies everyone brought. After a few conversations, we had decided to teach the children how to make a simple mosaic and also do a few fun games with some game prizes. First, we did some simple ice-breaking games, so the children would warm up to us. After that, we went straight into mosaic-making for about an hour. We had a few pictures printed out, so we used that as a base, and the children would stick ripped pieces of paper onto it. This activity helped the children to be more creative. Since we had a bit of time left, we did two fun games that were inspired by one of our favourite games to do in school. These games are called “tebak gaya” and “ikut pemandu”. These games helped create bonds between us and the children.

Amonthago,me andmy friendswenttoa village in the context of a school activity, or should I say “program” which is known as “Live–In”. It is a time where students would learn various activities, namely studying through the experience of living in a certain area, or in this circumstance, staying in a place where modernization hasn’t reached itslimit. The reasoning onwhy suchaprogramwouldexistissothatstudents can learn the ways of the people who reside in the chosen place and increase their mannerism, including respect, especially for those who spend their time wisely everyday by working very hard. I learned many things during my daysin the village, but there were memorable moments as well. One memory thatItreasure the most, and I’m sure that most of my friends do so too, is an activity called “Social Service”. Me and my group mates were supposed to execute the socialservice we had prepared before we arrived at the village. However, there was one major problem. We were completely separated because we stayed in different parts of the area, and we couldn’t meet with each other becauseitwouldtakequiteawhiletowalkwhereeachofusarestaying. Luckily, the teacherswerepreparedforthisandhadanideatosolve the matter.Intheend, thosethatwereinthesamehamletasmeteamedup and decided to use what we have and bring to use it during the social service activities. I had been feeling unwellthat day when the socialservice started, which is why I asked my friendsforinformation regarding what happened. My friends hadroundedupthe kidsthatresidedinthe same area asusbefore they started the socialservice event. Instead, they were passing the word through actions andthe lastpersonneededtoguesswhatitmeant. The activitywas enjoyedby the kids, which is a relief, especially because it’sto cool down their brains after such an English class. The next one was even more exciting. It’s when the kids had the chance to paint tote bags. My friends had prepared forthis particular activitytoamaximumlevelbeforetheparticipantspouredalloftheircreativity. I could see that by the finished results that the children enjoyed themselves incredibly well. It was also a great time to see the village kids’ imagination because none of us expected forthem to create what they have drawn on the totebag. SOCIALSERVICEWAS... SOMETHING ELSE! 09

memories unlocked! Unfortunately, Social Service couldn’tlast forever and needed to be ended. I’ve always imaginedthe kidswantingmore orwanting to continue the activity, but wasn’t possible because time is never permanent. However, despite the factthat we’ll probably never do this again unless given the opportunity to and I wasn’t apart in most of the activities, the simple memories and moments my friends and I gathered during this eventwas definitely something treasurable and to behold. I hope one day I can experience this type of excitement as well, and see children express their creativity and happiness throughdifferentways. Moving on to the part where the children needed to make friendship bracelets. Apparently the materials have been brought by my friend to the Live–In area and that’s such a relief cause it wastheperfectwaytoendtheSocialServiceevent. Even though Iwasstill a bitsick, the teacher had come inside the room to wake me up from my sleep when she invited me to join in the eventfor a littlewhile.I only stayedthere for a few minutes because I needed to fully recover, but nonetheless, it was definitely a memorable experience. The way the children smiled throughouttheactivitymademyheartmelt.Iwas astonished at how a few were able to make gorgeous headbands instead of bracelets, truly mirroringthefactonhowcreativekidscanbe. 10

From the beginning of the preparation for the live-in program, we had been briefed on some of the activities that were going to be done. One of these activities was the social service. We had been thinking about our social service plan for quite some time. Our group decided on two options for our social service. Which were crafting origamis with the local kids and to help clean up the community of our hamlet. Since we originally planned these activities to be done as one group, we had already brought the supplies that we were each tasked to bring. But when the hamlet announcement happened, we realised that only two of us were in the same hamlet. Which were me and Louisa. Since our supplies were very limited, we had to improvise with the supplies we each brought on the trip. On the second day of the live-in program, my hamlet initiated our social service program. This program was held to inspire the village kids to be more creative and form friendships. In this program we did arts and crafts and lots of icebreaker games. The activities were all inspired by our own favourite activities to do during lectures and other school activities. For the arts and crafts, we did an origami mosaic, and for one of the icebreaker games, we did a command train game. All these activities were done by improvising with the supplies we each brought. Thankfully there were a few people who brought origami paper, stationeries, and picture print-outs. Inspiring Others, Building Friendships 11 Kiara82/23

In preparation for the social service, we all gathered at a designated house to discuss our plan for this program. Our supplies were very limited and we had to improvise our original plan. We started to cut up the pieces of origami paper and put them into a makeshift basket made from more origami paper. Since we were tight on time, we had to work fast. We all contributed in cutting and ripping paper and setting up the place for when the kids came. While some of us helped cut the paper, the rest of us started making up ideas for one of the ice breaking games, which was the ‘Guess the Move’ game. Me and some of my other friends made around 10 moves for the kids to do before they came. When the kids finally came, we were all so excited to share some of our favourite activities to do with them. We first started off with the guess the move game, where almost everyone had a go at it. One of the kids named Ivan, was very enthusiastic about this game and kept encouraging the younger kids to join in. After this game, we continued with the origami mosaic activity. This activity was very fun for the kids, because they could explore their creativity in this activity, as there were no boundaries on how to create their own mosaics. Since the kids had been crafting their mosaics for around 20 minutes, we started to collect their papers. We then continued with the train game. Where one of us shouted out an instruction and the kids would have to follow. For example, the leader shouts forwards then the train of kids would jump forwards. The kids made 6 lines and played against each other. This was a very fun activity for them, and by just looking at their faces, I could tell they were having a great time. After we had been playing for some time, we said goodbye to the kids, since we had other activities to do after that. From this social service experience, I learned many things on how to teach younger kids and how to build genuine bonds with them. This experience taught me alot about teamwork and how to improvise with minimal supplies. From that, I learned to be resilient in any situation I’m put in and how to resolve problems step-by-step. This activity helped me gain more confidence in communicating with new people and engaging with an audience. Experiences like these also help me accept input from other people and learn from my mistakes. This truly was an amazing experience. This experience will always be remembered by me as one of the most memorable times during my live-in program. 12

there waited outside the door waiting for us to finish the cutting process. still been cutting out the origami into smaller pieces. I remembered clearly that the children About one hour before the social service, we decided to gather and discuss an idea to make ice breaking games to play with them while getting to know us more and make the art & craft from what we brought. We also prepared gifts like candies and snacks for them if they contributed to play . For the ice breaking games we planned out to do a “Guess the Move'' game. In that game we prepared a hat that we brought filled with a paper that was written with the movements that they should do. For the art & craft since we had a colouring picture paper and an origami paper, we had decided for them to make an origami mosaic. This mosaic should have small pieces of the origami so we had to cutted up small pieces from the origami which took us a lot of time. Live in’s Memorable Moments From every live in’s memorable moment, one of my favorites was on social service. Where I had interacted and built friendships with the kids there. We had a lot of fun activities there. So let’s talk a bit further about the process and moments on social service. Actually, my IL group mates and I had been planning for our social service. But sadly, we all were in different hamlet except for me and Kiara. Since our group IL were separated because we were in different hamlet, my hamlet decided to make our own activities from what we brought. Our supplies to make the activities were quite limited, so we decided to make some simple art & craft and games. Therefore we decided to let them in and get started with the ice breaking games while some of us had Louisa82/26 13

Well, this social service won’t last long. However, it was truly a remarkable and memorable experience for me. I found abundant joy in engaging with and teaching the children there. Not only that but I also learned a lot from this experience. I got to learn more about patience and cooperation with my group mates. Moreover, I learned a lot about myself from teaching and connecting with the children, facing the challenges along the way. I will look forward to the chance to experience this again in the future. 14 When the children were all gathered, we started off by introducing ourselves. After we introduced ourselves, we played the “Guess the Move” game as an ice breaking game. In this game most of the children, especially Ivan, were very enthusiastic to guess the move. After a while playing the game, we continued to do the mosaic. In my opinion this art and craft could build their creativity. After they had been doing this mosaic activity for about 30 minutes, we started to collect their work one by one. After all the papers were collected and we still had more time before we finished our social service, we continued with another game called the train game. In this game the kids made a group to line up, where one of us shouted out an instruction (for example: jump forward, jump backward, etc) so then the kids would have to follow. It seems like they had a really great time having fun while working together.

Chronicles of a Social Service Initiative! As a part of our live-in activity, we were assigned to do a social service to help the people in the village of Ngargomulyo. We started to plan our social service on the 29th of September, 2023. Before the live-in started, our teachers had been telling us to prepare our social services well, so that we could contribute meaningfully to the people of Ngargomulyo. Thankfully, all of us contributed ideas, and after careful consideration, we decided to have the social service be about teaching kids how to make origami and helping the villagers clean the village. During the planning phase, we identified the target groups, determined the resources we needed, and scheduled how long the activities would take. It was decided that the origami social target group would comprise grade schoolers, while the cleaning social service targeted junior and senior high schoolers. We also decided that we needed materials such as origami paper, scissors, pencils, and cleaning supplies like trash bags and wiping cloths to carry out the social services since we were not allowed to bring any electronics. Lastly, we planned for the origami social service to take about an hour and twenty minutes, while the cleaning social service to take about an hour and ten minutes. We presented our ideas during the presentation and revised them to improve them. I had been eager to start implementing when we finalized our ideasfor the Social Service. During the implementation phase, my group had been separated since we were assigned to different hamlets,so we were not able to meet each other, which was a problem. By the 21st of March, 2024, we had decided to team up and conduct the social service in my specific hamlet after we had learned about the crops in Ngargomulyo. Since all of us were in different groups, we had determined our social services to be drawing together with kids and also helping a seventh grader do her homework in Kelly and Valerie82/34 15

However, one of the problems we encountered was probably keeping the children engaged and motivated throughout the social service. To overcome this problem, Mulan rewarded the kids with pens and crayons that she had brought, which kept the children excited and motivated until the end of the social service activity. Before Mulan rewarded the kids with pens and crayons, they had been drawing and learning about the human body for almost an hour. This made me happy since they were enthusiastic enough to enjoy the moment with us. In conclusion, our social service was a success, and we managed to help the kids learn something new while also contributing positively to the community. The joy and enthusiasm displayed by the children during the social service is a testament to the positive impact that volunteer work can have on both the volunteers and the community. It was truly a rewarding experience for us and everyone involved. Amaria’s house. I volunteered to draw together with the kids alongside Mulan, Shannon, and Elsa while also bringing the papers needed since I had brought my book. We had been drawing together while explaining the body parts of the human body in detail when we were given some sweet tea, which made me refreshed. We also explained to them a bit about Monas, which is a monument in Jakarta. The children were so enthusiastic and eager to learn that it was a heartwarming experience for all of us. 16
