four-cylinder engine serves up an eye-watering 231 hp at 11,500 rpm (242 hp with ram air)
and a peak torque of 141 Nm at 11,000 rpm.

Now, what is different about the carbon edition? essentially, only the new paint

Husqvarna 125 Spotted www.bikeindia.in

THE HUSQVARNA SVARTPILEN 125 HAS BEEN UNVEILED AND WILL GO ON
sale in international markets very soon. Until now, the range included
the Svartpilen 250, 401, and 701. For 2021, the Swedish motorcycle
manufacturer has revealed the Husqvarna Svartpilen 125, making it the
new entry-level Svartpilen in the line-up.

Visually, the 125 looks very similar to its siblings, apart from the spoked
wheels with dual-purpose Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres. The Svartpilen 125
uses the same engine seen in the KTM 125 Duke — a 125-cc single-cylinder,
liquid-cooled DOHC motor putting out 14.7 hp and 12 Nm of peak torque,
mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike has a dry weight of 146 kg and gets
a 9.5-litre fuel-tank.

Considering that the 125 Duke was such a huge success, we may expect
the Svartpilen 125 to be launched in the Indian market by the end of the
year, at an expected price of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

20 Bike India March 2021 Honda CB350RS

Soon after the H’ness CB350, the Japanese marque
has launched another variant based on the same
platform — CB350RS. Interestingly, Honda say that “RS”
stands for Road Sailing. Launched at Rs 1.96 lakh (ex-
showroom), the RS costs Rs 9,500 more than the H’ness.

Visually, the CB350RS can be told apart from its sibling
due to its bright dual-tone colours; red-black and yellow-
black. The new variant gets a 17-inch rear wheel with a
150/70 tyre (the CB350 runs an 18-inch rear with 130/70
rubber), a slightly different seat, fork boots, bash-plate,
and a re-designed tail section which includes a slightly
different exhaust. It also uses the same 348.36-cc, air-
cooled, four-valve, single-cylinder engine as the CB350. It
is mated to a five-speed gearbox and dishes out 21 hp at
5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 30 Nm at 3,000 rpm.

Also included are switchable traction control and a
rather informative digital-analogue console that displays
useful essentials including real-time fuel efficiency and
distance to empty. Braking is managed by a 310-mm disc
at the front and a 240-mm disc at the rear supplemented
with the safety of dual-channel ABS.

The 2021 Himalayan has been launched in India, priced at Rs
2.01 lakh (ex-showroom), and will be available in three new colour
options: Mirage Silver, Granite Black, and Pine Green. The motorcycle
has received some crucial updates to make it even better for long-
distance riding and touring. Salient changes include a taller windscreen,
navigation display, re-designed protective frame around the tank, and a
new rear luggage rack. Thankfully, it now also gets switchable ABS. The
re-designed frame is set forward to accommodate taller riders. The new
Himalayan is powered by the same BS6-compliant 411-cc engine that
puts out 24.3 hp and 32 Nm of peak torque.

BMW R 18 Classic

Following the premiere of the BMW R 18 last year, BMW Motorrad India
have now introduced the another version to its cruiser line-up — the R 18
Classic. The new variant is more suitable for cruising than the standard
R 18 as it rides on a small 16-inch front wheel, gets cruise control and
features multiple touring-oriented accessories. The Classic is based on
the standard R 18 and features a large windscreen, saddlebags and LED
auxiliary lights at the front.

Moreover, unlike the standard R 18, the Classic comes with a pillion
seat, while the 19-inch front wheel is replaced by a 16-inch one. Powering
it is the same 1,802-cc, air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler as the R 18, the
largest motorcycle boxer engine ever manufactured by the German brand.
The gigantic engine produces 91 hp at 4,750 rpm and has a maximum
torque of 158 Nm available at 3,000 rpm. The new R 18 Classic has been
priced at a whopping Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom), making it dearer by
Rs 4.20 lakh over the standard model.

and can be distinguished with the new colour schemes (Graphite and
Diablo Red or Graphite and Caspian Blue) and dedicated 850 Sport

The big change here is that the engine character that promises to

IN 2015, DUCATI INTRODUCED THE WORLD TO THE “LAND OF JOY” March 2021 Bike India 25
and their highly anticipated Ducati Scrambler Icon. The Italian company created a
new brand — the new Scrambler was hyped by hipster images and glamourous
locations. It was aimed at a new generation of potential Ducati owners, those more
concerned about persona and personalisation than performance.
Once you removed the hipster image, there was no hiding the fact that the Scrambler
was an excellent entry-level bike into the Ducati brand — simple and easy to use, yet
fun. Ducati updated the Scrambler for 2019, and again the launch was surrounded by
clever marketing and imagery, again the excellent Scrambler shone. It was not an
enormous step forward as compared to the older model, but the improvements were
substantial, especially the introduction of cornering ABS.

Since I first rode the then new Scrambler back in 2015 upon the launch of the original bike, I have always

admired its simplicity. Just jump on, press the starter button, and ride. The air-cooled motor has been diluted

by Euro-5 restrictions and the attractive, twin-stacked exhaust just about beats out enough decibels for it to

offer some character.

The straightforward air-cooled L-twin is loosely based on the old Ducati Monster 796 (803-cc) engine

(which produced a quoted 88 hp). Bore and stroke are the same but valves, injectors, exhaust, intake, and

airbox are all completely different. In 2019, Ducati introduced a hydraulic clutch, instead of the conventional

cable, and in 2021, the motor remains unchanged. The “base” of the engine is over 10 years old and peak

output is 73 hp at 8,250 rpm and 66.2 Nm at 5,750 rpm. These figures may not impress your mates down the

pub, but the engine is bulletproof, eminently usable and, importantly in this market, attractive. Ducati could

have gone searching for more power with a modern, water-cooled engine but it wouldn’t have had the visual

charm and character of the simple air-cooled L-twin.

Power delivery is smooth and friendly and there is a lovely

The first-generation ’busa had a top speed speed of 312 km/h, which made it one of

the Japanese and european manufacturers to limit the speed of motorcycles. They
came to a decision to limit the top speed to 299 km/h. The second-generation model

engine put out an astonishing 197 hp and 155 nm of peak torque. With this model, the

as we can see, the 2021 Suzuki hayabusa sports a couple of minor changes to the
design language for 2021 — the bike sports all-around leD lighting, gets a re-
designed tank, and an aerodynamically improved front fairing. This new fairing flows
uninterrupted from the front, across the tank, and off the upswept tail, which honours

The updated hayabusa draws its power from a euro
5-compliant (bS6) 1,340-cc, in-line four-cylinder motor. There
were rumours earlier that the new iteration would pack a more
powerful 1,400-cc engine. Such, however, is not the case. The
upgraded 1,340-cc motor puts out 190 hp at 9,700 revolutions
per minute and a peak torque of 150 nm at 7,000 rpm. it is
mated to a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quick-
shifter. This new engine features a ride-by-wire electronic
throttle system and a revised intake and exhaust mechanism
which, Suzuki say, will help with enhanced output and torque
in the low-to-mid speed range. inside, there are new pistons
and connecting rods which reduce the weight of moving parts
within the engine. apart from these, changes have also been
made to the crankshaft oil passages, which, according to
Suzuki, improve engine lubrication.

the original look of the instrument cluster. one standout feature
is the new TfT lCD panel mounted in the centre. The bike
