Introduction
(This is a beginning pattern)
The Pause
The Promenade in Tango is made up of distinct parts:
• Promenade from Closed Paused,
• The Close (Resolucion) – often called Tango Close to a
pause.
The pause the last step from 5(S)
the previous Tango phrase. It
can be the case where the
partners simply draw their free
foot toward the anchor foot –
gentleman draw left and lady
draw right. Or, it could be a
tap step like is found in
European Tango. In either
case, there is no change of
weight. The gentleman is
ready to step off with his left
foot and the lady with her right
foot on the count of one.

The gentleman 3
uses his hand on (q)
the lady’s back to
turn her to
promenade
position. This hand
turn is her “mark”.
The steps along the
diagonal are almost
in line one in front
of the other.
On the second
slow, the
gentleman holds
back slightly to let
the lady pass.
The Close On the third step (quick), the
(La Resolucion) gentleman uses his hand on
her back to compel her to pivot
in front of him into the Tango
hold. She returns to her left
hand along the outside of the
man’s arm.
At this point, her left foot is in
the way of his stepping side
right. The gentleman
continues to turn the lady
counter-clockwise using the
hand on her back and the
combined grouped hands to
his left. This causes her to pull
her left foot back in preparation
of taking another step.
