The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of
worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s
occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business,
and community life;

FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace
through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal

of service.

KNOW ROTARY

Top 5 Reasons to End Polio Now

To end polio, we must stop transmission of the
virus in the three countries where it remains
endemic: Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. We
must also keep all other countries polio-free until
we're certain it won't resurface. Up to 60 high-risk
countries still operate large-scale immunization
campaigns to protect children against polio.

“We have the ability to protect every last person, especially children from
this entirely preventable disease,” says Anthony Lake, Executive Director of
UNICEF.

 To Improve Lives. 16 million people are walking today who would

have otherwise been paralyzed.

 To Invest in the Future. If polio isn't eradicated, within 10 years,

as many as 200,000 children could be paralyzed by it each year.

 To Improve Child Health. Polio surveillance networks and

vaccination campaigns also monitor children for other health problems like
vitamin deficiency and measles, so they can be addressed sooner.

 To Save Money. A polio-free world will save the global economy

$40-$50 billion in health costs within the next 20 years.

 To Make History. Polio eradication would be one of history's

greatest public health achievements, with polio following smallpox to
become only the second human disease eliminated from the world.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Great President Enrico “Ricky” S. Bautista

Membership. Looking forward to new inductees to the club this meeting.
New inductees can then attend the Rotary 101 on November 11, 1PM, at
the Marikina Youth Center, Marikina City. Past President Chuck will be one
of the speakers.

Entrepreneurship Night. Tonight is the debut of our club’s new service

entrepreneurship across all sectors of our community. We hope to inspire
attendees, especially the Rotaractors, to have their own business in the
near future.

Our first featured speaker is a successful entrepreneur: Past President
Bobby Leung. He will share his experience in starting his businesses, the
challenges he faced, and the factors that led to his business success.

Chuck will host the talk show interview format. We have invited prospective
Rotarians as well as Rotaractors. This is the start of a series of talks
featuring successful members of the club. Past President Cito Tiu has
confirmed to be one of our speakers. We would like to extend our gratitude
for the use of Celso’s clubhouse despite the recent demise of his beloved
mother.

Coffee Project. “Hilltop Brew” is the winning brand name of our Name That
Coffee contest. Jerome Salinas submitted the winning entry.

Congratulations! He wins P1,000 dues credit and will, of course, enjoy

bragging rights. Bobby has taken the baton to design the brand logo

together with his daughter Therese of Leung + De Leon Marketing Services.

Chuck will write the copy for the back sticker. Pricing is in the range of

P250-300 per bag. Each bag contains 250 grams of ground coffee. We plan
to have the product available by the third week of November.

5 Rotary: Making A Difference Vol. 29 No. 09

brave souls! Thank you very much, Celso! But we aim to be an EREY Club. I
am encouraging the other members of the club to each contribute
USD100.

The Annual Gift Giving will be on 27 November 2017 at the Manila Hotel.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Secretary/President Elect Charlie G. Bite

At the Regular Meeting of the Rotary Club of Marikina Hilltop held on October 20,
2017 at the Bobby Leung Boardroom, Pres. Quirino Street, Industrial Valley
Complex, Marikina City, the following were discussed:

Coffee Project Update. Thanks to Pres. Ricky Bautista who brought both the
coffee and his coffeemaker, the club members had a first taste of the still
unnamed coffee that the Rotary Club of Marikina Hilltop is going to sell. Happy to
say that the reaction of all who tasted the coffee was unanimously positive.

---o---

Scholarship Update. Pres. Ricky reported that he was going to have a second
meeting with the President of the Rotary Club of Marikina Central, Pres. Ron dela
Paz, in order to get the syllabus for the proposed English Training joint project of
our clubs. The document will then be presented to the officials of the Marikina
Polytechnic College where the project is planned to be implemented.

---o---

Entrepreneur Night. In line with the objective to promote entrepreneurship, an
Entrepreneur Night will be held on our next meeting on November 10, with PP
Bobby Leung as guest speaker/resource person. This activity will follow a coffee
table discussion format, with Past President Chuck S. Manansala acting as the
moderator. Rotarians, Spouses, and Rotaractors are all invited to join.

---o---

Membership. Pres. Ricky again reiterated the need to recruit new members into
the club. He suggested that the possible recruits could be invited to the next
meeting, which is scheduled to be a Spouses Night and an Entrepreneur Night at
the same time. Pres. Ricky also reported that Past President Mon Fernandez
seemed enthusiastic to re-join club.

---o---

Other Matters. Pres. Ricky reminded the club of the important activities remaining
for the month of October, namely: the Oktoberfest on the 21st, Saturday, Metrowalk
Tent; the 2nd Leg of the Rotary District 3800 Bowling Tournament on the 22nd and
29th, both Sundays, at the Sta. Lucia Bowling Alley; the Great Walk to End Polio, on
the 22nd, 6 a.m., at the Quezon City Circle; and the Rotary District 3800 Halloween
Party on the 27th, 6 p.m. at the Valley Golf Clubhouse.
