STORY ThE Hoppy
The hoppy boppy birdie flies
up to build a nest.
This is a robin family, but many other birds make nests, too. As you read the story, point out the
nest, mother bird, eggs, and baby birds. Then sing the story to the tune of “Itsy Bitsy Spider.”

STORY A Chat with
the Birds
I say hello
to the duck and the crow
to the robin
and also the owl
in the tree.
Point to the birds and imitate their sounds as you read to
your baby. Encourage your toddler to hoot, chirp, caw,
and quack back to you. Outside, you and your child can
listen for the calls of birds.
With a hoot and a chirp,
with a caw and a quack,
the birds in the park
say “hello” back to me.

Point out and name the familiar body parts in the picture of the child. What is similar on the bird?
(Head, body, eyes; what else?) What is different? (Arm = wing, mouth = beak, etc.)
