Since Phoebe Philo’s departure from Celine,
spotlights have been roaming in search
of her successor as fashion’s mistress of
avant-garde minimalism. New York-based
designer Peter Do is a hot contender. After
graduating from the city’s Fashion Institute
of Technology, the winner of the LVMH
Prize for Graduates was recruited to join

Celine under Philo’s tutelage. Do even
collaborated with celebrated architect Zaha
Hadid and worked under US designer Derek
Lam before launching his eponymous label
in January 2018. His spring/summer 2019
collection inspired by Irving Penn’s portraits
of people in uniform was a roaring success.
Do focused on construction and tailoring—a
voluminous, sheer shirt would sit over an
asymmetrically pleated skirt, a printed

button-up shirt would have floor-length
sleeves, and knits and jackets would have
shoulders slashed open. It’s a breathtaking
and powerful line of sexy workwear with a
distinctly Philo-esque twang yet uniquely
and elegantly balanced as only Do can do,
which is why the collection is already carried
by retail giants such as Net-a-Porter.

Crutchley’s men’s tailoring brand is a breath of fresh air. The British
designer, who launched his label in 2015, took home the 2019 Internatio
Woolmark Prize in both the menswear and innovation categories for hi
successful application of the Japanese shibori technique and American t
dye on wool. Drawing inspiration from different cultures’ uses of textil
and reinventing them into modern, luxurious pieces has always been
Crutchley’s forte, and has resulted in collaborations with the likes of Ka
West and, most recently, Louis Vuitton. His fall/winter 2019 collection

that Louis Vuitton secured its reputation

as a watchmaker. The Spin Time, writes

Annie Darling, is celebrating its 10th
anniversary with a special collection

poetic that we meet master watchmaker Michel Navas
in the French resort to celebrate the 10th anniversary
of Louis Vuitton’s iconic Spin Time watch.
The French maison has taken momentous
steps to turn itself into a significant player
in the watchmaking world by strengthening
its technical capabilities. “We know Louis
Vuitton for handbags, we know Louis Vuitton
for ready-to-wear,” agrees Navas. “We know
Louis Vuitton for so many things, but least of
all: watches.” The brand’s 2012 acquisition of La
Fabrique du Temps—founded in 2007 by Navas and
fellow horologist Enrico Barbasini—was key to it
qualifying for the Geneva Seal. Also known as Poinçon

de Genève, the certification was established in 1886
as a prized hallmark for high-end timepieces and was
awarded to Louis Vuitton for the first time in 2016, for
its Voyager Flying Tourbillon.
“We are very proud,” says Navas of the
accreditation. Only five brands—including Louis
Vuitton—have obtained the seal: Cartier, Chopard,
Roger Dubuis, and Vacheron Constantin. To qualify,
watchmakers must operate out of Geneva and ensure
that all components are finalised in-house by their
artisans. “Even the screws must be polished by hand,”
reveals Navas, adding that he employs a small team of
80 craftsmen and women. “Each part must be brushed
and set, which takes about two months.” Models
