Neutralisation

Neutralisation

Neutralisation is the reaction between acid and alkali
to produce salt and water

acid + alkali  salt + water

• Titration is a method used for neutralisation
• At the end point (neutral point), all the acid completely

reacts with the alkali and the solution has a pH value of 7
• At end point, acid reacts completely with alkali and the

solution produced do not show any acid or alkali
properties and it is pH 7

The type of salt produced from the neutralisation process
depends on the types of acid and alkali that react

Hydrochloric acid + Sodium hydroxide Sodium chloride + Water

Sulphuric acid + Potassium hydroxide Potassium sulphate + Water

Nitric acid + Sodium hydroxide Sodium nitrate + Water
