The Grill @ The Orangery It’s all go! One of Scotland’s finest steaks after another, flying off the wonder that is, our mighty Josper Grill, the ultimate in charcoal gastronomy. We are absolutely delighted to now be introducing The Modern Age, which is a celebration of contemporary Scotland. Alongside our full Grill menu, these are completely new dishes with 3 courses priced with wonderful value-for money at £32.50. An inspiration for this evolution has certainly been the epic #ChefsTable series on #Netflix which focusses on many of the top chefs and restaurants around the world, and their never-ending drive for local and national supplies, sustainability, evolution and new invention. We’ve had so many wonderful guest comments in the first week of the new menu, and we are already well in progress with the next phase with menu 2 in a few weeks time.

He has done it AGAIN! Balbirnie House MD and owner Nicholas Russell has now successfully completed his sixth full distance Ironman Triathlon, all of these results have been achieved whilst in his fifties. This latest result took place on Sunday 20th of August at IRONMAN Copenhagen, Denmark. An Ironman Triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle, and then a 26.2 mile marathon. All sections are timed, if you fall behind the cutoff times you are DNF Did Not Finish, and out of the race. Nicholas joined Glenrothes Triathlon Club a decade ago and says ‘It was such an honour to have once again been able to represent our amazing, local, friendly, and inclusive Glenrothes Triathlon club. I have worked within Balbirnie’s wedding team for 8 years and promoted to Senior Wedding Coordinator in 2018. I have the privilege of meeting our couples at the exciting first stages of planning and continuing to guide them through all the stages of planning their special day. I am passionate about weddings and I LOVE my job. I am very lucky to work with an amazing team! Building up a relationship with my couples and then seeing them get married is so wonderful. Especially after seeing so many couples go through the traumatic experiences of lockdown, constant postponing and working with various restrictions. It has been incredibly special to see those couples finally get the day they had worked so hard for. One of my favourite times on a wedding day is watching the Bride or Groom make an entrance into the ceremony and looking at their partner’s face, it is so emotional and beautiful to see. Method: Melt the butter in a pan over a medium heat. Addthe shallots and garlic and fry until softened but not coloured. Add the rice, stir well and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the rice is slightly translucent. Add the white wine and stir well until the wine is almost completely absorbed. Add a ladleful of stock and allow the rice to absorb this liquid, stirring constantly. Add further ladlefuls of stock, stirring and allowing the rice to absorb almost all of the stock before adding more stock Once all the stock has been added and absorbed, add the mushrooms and stir well. Once the rice is cooked, but slightly al dente, add an extra knob of butter, the peas and the parmesan and stir well. Season, to taste, with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then spoon into warmed dish and drizzle with truffle oil and garnish with chopped parsley and grated parmesan. Ingredients: 50g butter, plus a a wee bit extra 3 shallots, chopped 1 garlic clove, chopped 350g Arborio rice 175ml white wine 600ml hot vegetable stock 150g mushrooms, chopped 50g frozen peas 30g freshly grated parmesan, or a similar vegetarian hard cheese salt and freshly ground black pepper Truffle oil Chopped parsley The Vibe Manager's Mushroom & Pea Risotto
Jill & Brodie How did your love story begin? It began when Brodie got in touch with me, we hit it off, and she didn’t run away in our first date when I stood up and started to sing ‘ don’t stop believing ‘ with the excellent band in the pub…. Impressive! Then we went on a second date, and realised that we never wanted to stop speaking to each other. 5 months later our friend sat us down and asked us if we realised that we were actually living together already? Why did you choose Balbirnie as your wedding venue? We loved the vibe. And when we were in the video call ( hello covid) Balfour showed us round and legit the dog sold it for us because we a huge dog people. Then when we saw it in person the entire place was just wonderful and the outside gardens we could already see our pictures being taken there. The staff being so lovely was the cherry on top! We knew we made the right decision when our wedding coordinator Leah was so lovely at my many, many emails, our master of ceremonies David was our fairy god mother and they worked in harmony to ensure we could have all 3 dogs at our pictures which was super important to us.
What is the best advice you would give to future couples planning their day? Everything you are worried about, the things that are causing sleepless nights - they don’t matter. The person you are marrying ? That’s the only bit that matters. Oh! And take time to soak it in, it goes by so fast! Wedding Thanks Hi Leah - I’m sure Lauren and James will be in touch with you before long, however I wanted to send you a personal message of thanks on behalf of Lauren’s mum Norma and myself. After a perfect day yesterday we are all thinking back on some wonderful moments. I expected great things from Balbirnie but I have to say that the team surpassed even our highest hopes. Everything was just flawless. Special thanks go to you for looking after Lauren and James perfectly from day 1 when they first met you many months ago right through to a magical day yesterday. I would also ask you to pass on heartfelt thanks to Kenneth who was brilliant for us on the day and I personally felt in the safest of hands with him. Taylor was lovely and the whole team were so professional and a credit to your business. Our thoughts towards you were shared by so many of our guests. We will remember yesterday for the rest of our lives for all the right reasons. The Balbirnie team made us proud to be there with our family and friends.
