PB&J Saturday 4:00 – Jácome

Mostly acoustic, with 2 guitars and a bass, and 3 singers we play blues, country, folk
music old and new, some originals, music that pleases us, and pleases our audience

too. We offer strong vocals, good harmonies, well-played instruments, fun and
enjoyment for everyone in the room.

Pete Steinberg Sunday 12:30 – Dusty Monk

Pete learned blues, bottleneck and fingerstyle guitar from the amazing country blues
musicians who performed at the famous Ash Grove in Los Angeles: Bukka White, Son
House, Mississippi John Hurt, Merle Travis and Reverand Gary Davis to name a few. I
now teach Travis/Atkins style guitar at McCabes guitar shop in Santa Monica. On

stage, I reserve the right to express a serious thought, should one ever occur to me.

Peter, Paul, and Mary Remembered Saturday 3:00 – Church

With 2 male voices, 1 female voice, 2 guitars (1 each steel and nylon strings), and an

upright bass, Peter, Paul, and Mary Remembered present only the music of that
famous trio. Their harmonies will remind you of the days when the music and the lyrics
were more important than the "pyrotechnics" so prevalent in much of today's music.
Join them to rekindle your fond memories of those times when we "came of age" and
of the music that made it happen.

Elise Grecco, the well-loved, gregarious, velvet-voiced, hard-working matriarch
of the Folk Festival joined the celestial jam on October 16, 2018. We suspect
she’s still organizing, singing and playing along with those that have preceded
her; Mike Landwehr, Gerry Glombecki, Stefan George, Lavinia White, Papa
Mike, Jonathan Holden…the list keeps getting longer.

Elise was born in New Jersey on January 9, 1952, but headed to Tucson in
1970, where, like her brother before her, she obtained a degree from the
University of Arizona. Although brother Marc headed back east, Elise had
found her musical family right here in Tucson and to the delight of many, she
settled in for good.
For nearly 20 years following college, Elise played in the coffeehouses and
bars that made up Tucson’s folk scene, often at Cushing Street. In the early
‘90s, she left most of those gigs behind and went to work for Dillard’s, from
which she retired two short years ago.
An enthusiastic advocate for music, she increasingly became an integral part of
the jigsaw puzzle that’s called the Tucson Folk Festival. And, as the Festival

62

grew, she continued to take on bigger roles during its years-long organization.
She’ll be remembered with her purse full of Folk Fest flyers, handing them out
at the 4th Avenue Street Fair each winter and spring, roaming the lobby of Hotel
Congress or the Rialto during intermissions, always spreading the word about
the Tucson Folk Festival.
If it was needed, she’d schlep cases of water and soda from Costco, pick up
T-shirts, CDs, or musicians who needed a ride. She was often the one that
would bushwhack through the red tape required to get permits from the City of
Tucson, Tucson Police Department, Tucson Fire Department, Tucson
Department of Transportation, Pima County Health Department, etc. It took a
village of bureaucrats to put on (at the time) a four-stage, two-day event.
After decades of work, behind-the-scenes organizing, on the ground directing,
and tying up loose ends afterward, her legacy is the Tucson Folk Festival.
At home, she loved her garden and would often be found outside tending to her
plants, adding more yard art or planting new cuttings from old friends. Her cat
would be at her feet, winding between the flora, and hanging out in the sun.
Elise lived life on her terms right up to the end, giggling frequently and shaking
her head over the latest health – and healthCARE – issues she was dealing
with.
An angel too soon, may she rest in peace and bask in the love and memories
of her friends, family, and fans.
