REQUEST UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT Reference No F-2008-00531
With reference to your request for information received on 13th July 2009, I note you seek access to
the following information:
The number of children aged 15 and under a) suspected of supplying drugs and b) convicted
in each of the past 5 years broken down if available by class of drug supplied and the age of
the child.
Details of the items of property stolen from the police force in each of the past 5 years
including the total worth of stolen property stolen in each year.
Please see attached sheet. Bedfordshire Police started to formally record stolen police
property in 2006 therefore we do not hold information previous to 2006.
The number of children aged a)15 and under and b) 9 and under who were suspected of
committing a sexual offence in each of the past 5 years
The number of sexual offences committed against children a) 15 years old and under and b) 9
years old and under.
The number of children a) 15 years old and under and b) 9 years old and under found in
possession of knives, blades or firearms in each of the past 5 years broken down by type of
weapon.
How many crimes were committed in your area where the offender was aged under 10 in
each of the past 5 years? Please provide a breakdown of these offences showing the nature
of the crime and the age of the offender if available.
How many children under the age of 10 were found to be in possession of illegal drugs in
each of the past 5 years?
How many murders which occurred in your force area in each of the past 10 years remain

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Bedfordshire Police to locate
information relevant to your request.

How many children under the age of 10 were found to be in possession of illegal drugs in each
of the past 5 years?
Bedfordshire Police’s crime system can retrieve statistics from 2006 and does not hold information in
a retrievable format previous to this. However, I can confirm that there are no incidences of children
under 10 found to be in possession of illegal drugs since 2006.
How many murders which occurred in your force area in each of the past 10 years remain
unsolved?

Reason for Decision
Section 21 of the Act provides:
Information which is reasonably accessible to the application otherwise than under Section 1 is
exempt information …
For the purposes of subsection 1, information which is held by a public authority and does not fall
within subsection 2b is not to be regarded as reasonably accessible to the applicant merely because
the information is available from the public authority itself on request, unless the information is made
available in accordance with the authority’s publication scheme and any payment required is specified

The use of informants by the police service is well known and is governed by the Regulation of
Investigatory Powers Act, 2000.
In relation to your request, Bedfordshire Police can disclose that we use Covert Human Intelligence
sources and the recorded amount that was spent by this force on the obtaining of information to
combat crime, over the last 5 financial years (see Note below), was as follows:
