DILG-7 celebrates 29th Local Government Month

The Department of the Interior and Local Government
(DILG)-7 held a series of online activities in October in
line with the nationwide celebration of the 29th Local
Government Month.

DILG-7 has prepared six activities anchored on the
theme“Strengthening Good Local Governance towards
Sustainable and Resilient Filipino Communities.”

The activities included unveiling of Local Government
Code 29th Commemorative Plaque, online Quiz Bowl
Challenge for local government units, webinars on
Katarungang Pambarangay, sharing of best practices by
Cebu City government on COVID-19 response, knowledge
sharing with information officers in Central Visayas and
media practitioners, and webinar on Localization of
Executive Order No. 70 and Retooled Community Support
Program - End Local Communist and Armed Conflict.

On October 9, DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela and
Assistant Regional Director Maria Loisella Lucino led the
kickoff activity of the region’s month-long celebration.

October is celebrated as the Local Government Month, the
second week of October as the Local Government Week,
and the 10th day of October as the Local Government Day
pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation 63, s. 1992. The
celebration also commemorates the enactment of the
Local Government Code of 1991.

6 volumes of Kalayaan E-Newsletter released

To espouse patriotism and hope amid the
pandemic, the Department of the Interior and
Local Government (DILG)-7 and its partner
institutions released six issues of Kalayaan
E-Newsletter in 2020.

Kalayaan E-Newsletter, which was launched in
July 2020, is a byproduct of the collaboration of
DILG-7, Rizal-Blumentritt Academy Pamathalaan,
The Freeman, and Disiplina Muna-PMO.

The partner insitutions aimed to continue and
uphold the very purpose of the Kalayaan press
by providing an online platform as a powerful
vehicle for the attainment of positive change
in the society through accurate reporting and
promoting real stories on the ground that would
help shape and change public perception on
relevant issues and happenings.

Digital copies of the newsletters can be accessed
through the social media pages of DILG-7 and
Kalayaan E-News.

DILG reshuffles city, provincial directors in CV

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)
has implemented a revamp of its provincial and city directors
in five local government units in Central Visayas effective
January 2.
DILG-7 Director Leocadio Trovela issued Regional Order No.
2019-691, stating that the reassignment was“in the interest
of the service and in order to enforce DILG Circular No. 2019-
13 dated August 23, 2019 re Deployment and Tour of Duty
of Officials and Personnel in the Central, Regional and field
operation.”
The move was also intended to further improve field
operations.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año also issued Department Order
No. 2019-1356 to confirm the reassignment order.
DILG Bohol’s officer-in-charge Johnjoan Mende was
reassigned to Negros Oriental Province replacing provicial
director Dennis Quiñones.
Quiñones was reassigned to Siquijor Province replacing acting
director Kenneth Kilat, who was reassigned to sit as officer-in-
charge of DILG Mandaue City.
Bohol will be headed by Jerome Gonzales of DILG Cebu
Province, which will now be under the supervision of former
DILG Mandaue City director Jhoaden Lucero.
Director Trovela spearheaded the formal turnover of duties
and responsibilities in Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor
provinces on January 3, January 6, and January 7, respectively.
The turnover ceremony for Cebu Province was conducted on
January 8 while DILG Mandaue City held its own ceremony on
January 9.
