History and
Importance
When Prophet Muhammad S.A.W was 40 years
old, he used to go to the Cave of Hira' to pray and be
alone there. He would spend days and nights there
and sometimes stayed for a whole month, especially
in the month of Ramadhan. Rasulullah S.A.W did all
these to seek peacefulness and keep himself away
from the declining morals and uncivilized nature of
people. Such a retreat is known as Uzlah. These
retreats were also practiced by a small number of
people who held on to the Hanafiyyah teachings,
which were remnants of the teachings of Prophet
Ibrahim A.S.
During the night, he was approached by Jibril A.S
saying, "Iqra' (read)." The Prophet said, "Ma ana
biqari (I do not know how to read)". Jibril then
embraced him, released him and said again, "Iqra'
(read)". He still said, " Ma ana biqari (I do not know
how to read)". This is repeated up to three times and
given the same answer by the Prophet S.A.W,
Angel Jibril A.S was soon able to teach him to read
verses one to five of Surah Al-Alaq. Prophet
Muhammad was able to read fluently. After the
incident, Rasulullah S.A.W was terrified and did not
want to get out from the house for 3 months
After receiving the revelation, Prophet Muhammad
S.A.W returned home in a state of fear and his
whole body was shivering. His wife, Sayyidatina
Khadijah R.A quickly covered him with a blanket as
the Prophet S.A.W told her to. After he gradually
recovered, Khadijah brought him to see her cousin,
Waraqah bin Naufal to tell him about what had
happened. Waraqah said that what was revealed to
the Prophet was the same as what was revealed to
Prophet Musa A.S. It showed that Muhammad was
chosen by Allah to be His Messenger.
Waraqah also said, "If only I would still be alive and
young to witness you being detested by your
people..." The Prophet S.A.W asked, "Why would
they detest me?" Waraqah replied, "No one has
appeared with a message similar to what you have
brought without being met with animosity. If I were
to still be alive, I would help you as mush as I could."
However, Waraqah passed away before Islam met
objections from its enemies.
The event of the revelation proved the loyalty and
trust of Khadijah. She was loyal as a wife and never
doubted the teachings brought by the prophet ; until
he said:
"Allah does not give me a better substitute than
Khadijah. She believed in me when others denied
me, she trusted me when others disputed me, she
handed her properties to me at a time when others
obstructed me and Allah granted me children
through her." (Narrated by Ahmad)
Jabal Al-Nur holds great significance in the religion of
Islam as it I claimed to be the place where Prophet
Muhammad S.A.W used to spend days meditating
and seeking light and is said to have received with
the first revelation of the Holy Quran by Angel Jibril
(AS). Allah SWT in the Holy Quran tells us that the
first revelation descended on the “Night of Power” in
the holy month of Ramadan.

Setiap Muslim tidak akan sempurna sifat
keislamannya, walaupun ia berkeperibadian atau
berakhlaq yang tinggi serta peribadatan yang tidak
putus-putus terhadap Allah tanpa ia cuba
mengasingkan dirinya untuk menilai dan mencari
ketenangan jiwa dan segala sesuatu yang
membolehkan ia sampai kepada hakikat keagungan
ILAHI.
Semua ini merupakan jalan bagi setiap
muslim yang mahu menempatkan
dirinya sebagai seorang muslim sejati
terutamanya kepada mereka yang
mahu menjadi penda’wah ke jalan Allah
