Girls’ Hockey 2nd

Squad: Azilis DLT, Eleanore M, Sofiia R, Clementine D, Francesca F, Delilah G, Honor G, Olivia S
Played 9 matches, won 8, lost 1. They scored 28 goals over the season and conceded nine.
A very successful season for the 2nds. They started off with a close 3-2 win against St Andrew’s. They
were successful in winning 2-1 against Holmewood House. It was a thrilling match against Saint Ronan’s
and Vinehall dominated possession and had plenty of shots on target but could only convert two
against a strong goalkeeper. The few chances Saint Ronan’s had they capitalised on and the girls were
unlucky to concede a last minute goal for the opposition to take the win finishing 2-3, but that’s sport.
They went on to win the remaining matches, 5-0 against Marlborough, 3-0 against Dulwich, 2-1 against
Buckswood, 5-1 against Claremont, 5-1 against Sutton Valence and 1-0 against Mayfield. Honor,
Francesca and Olivia were a forceful attack unit and linked well with each other to provide many
scoring opportunities. Honor was the team’s top scorer with 14 goals, followed by Francesca on 10.
Olivia scored 3 and Sofiia scored 1.
The back unit of Clementine, Azilis, Sofiia and Delilah stopped a lot of the ball getting past them and
the wing backs grew in confidence over the season to bring the ball up through to attack.
If the opposition did get through, Eleanore stepped up as the last line of defence to put in some
impressive saves, although for the majority of the season, she was kept relatively quiet. Well done on
an excellent season.

3rd

Squad: Rosa AK, Poppy DB, Daisy F, Honor F, Ottoline G, Chaya L, Efe O, Kitty RR
Played 9 matches, won 4, drew 2 and lost 3. They scored a total of 16 goals and conceded 10.
This team worked well together, showing great collaboration. They struggled to hit the target, but had
possession for the best part during many matches. They did progress well through the season and
got better at using the whole pitch and holding their positions which helped to pull the opposition
apart. There was some really strong defending in this team which was great to watch.

4th

Squad: Jenny D, Isabelle H, Jimena SFdC, Marina M R-R, Isabela S, Sofia E, Olivia H
Played 6 matches, won 5, drew 1
Well done girls for achieving an unbeaten season. These girls were very enthusiastic and worked very
hard. They were determined to do well and had some good wins. They worked hard in the centre of
the pitch and were good at finding the spaces. Their foot work still needed work, even by the end of
the season, but this is a tricky part of hockey. They were good fun, happy and interesting to watch.

Girls’ Hockey U11A

Squad: May A, Camilla B, Clara F, Willow G, Seren W, Imogen W and Grace W.
Played 8 matches, Won 5, Drew 1 and Lost 2. They scored a total of 16 goals and conceded 7.
The girls had a good season, playing well as a team.
It was a close match against St Andrew’s, with a 2-1 win. The Saturday match against Holmewood was
tough due to missing some players, so the game was played in two halves. The first half was played with
the majority of the A team, with some of the B team stepping in to help. This match resulted in a 0-1 loss
at half time, but the second half of the match was played by the majority of B team players with some A
team players filling in the absent positions.
They were back to winning ways against Saint Ronans (2-0) and Marlborough House (4-1), but they struggled
against a clinical Dulwich side losing 0-4. The match against Derwent Lodge proved challenging to score
in tiny goals resulting in a draw.
Another close match against Claremont winning 1-0. It was in the final match of the season against
The Mead that they ended on a high with a 7-0 win. Imogen was the team’s top scorer with nine goals,
followed by May with four and then Grace and Seren scoring one each. However the defensive unit of
Camilla, Willow and Grace should be acknowledged for clearing the ball and also a mention to Clara
for some super saving as our goal keeper. Top job by all.

U11B

Squad: Elizabeth G, Eloise L-H, Iciar M M-R, Kenisha N, Molly P, Matilda R, Pollyana S
A good season for this team, they played nine matches, winning three, drawing two and losing four. They
had 1-0 wins over St Andrew’s, Saint Ronan’s and Beechwood Sacred Heart. A 1-1 draw against Derwent
Lodge and a no score draw against Claremont.
They had a particularly hard match against Holmewood House A team; the opposition were too strong
and unfortunately conceded six goals, but they never gave up and tried really hard.
Other losses were against Marlborough, Dulwich and The Mead. Eloise was plucky up front and constantly
attacked and Molly and Polly worked hard in the middle.
Elizabeth, Kenisha and Iciar worked well as a unit at the back to try and stop the opposition. Matilda was
new to hockey and showed interest in playing at goalkeeper. She did very well learning the position and
made some excellent saves over the season. Great effort by all the team.

U9

Squad: Grace B, Isobel F, Lexi F, Theodora G, Alessandra K, Isla M, Felicity M.
The girls had a good hockey season and they impressed me with the progress they made over the season.
They played three matches in which they drew against Saint Ronan’s (2-2) and Marlborough House (3-3) and
they won 4-3 against Claremont.
They also played a 4-a-side festival against St Andrew’s, in which all the girls had lots of fun and many goals
were scored.
Every match was better than the last because they were working as a team to pass and move the ball around.
It was that element of teamwork that shone on the pitch. Great goals were scored by most of the players but
Theodora was top scorer, scoring 4 goals over the season. Isla, Lexi and Alessandra all on 3 goals and Felicity
and Isobel scored 2 goals.
Grace was strong and steady at the back, Felicity and Isla bringing the ball down their wings. Isobel and Theodora
worked tirelessly in the mid. Lexi was forceful in trying to break the oppositions defence. A good job by all.

Virtual Sports Day If all was as normal, Saturday 20th June 2020 would have seen the school compete for the house

athletics shield, a highlight of the school year.
Unfortunately, this was not to be and instead the pupils were given the task of competing in the
very first Virtual Sports Day. There were six events: the Standing Long Jump, 5m Shuttle Run, Star
Jumps, Frying Pan Keepie Uppies, Under and Over and the Speed Bounce, six tasks chosen so that
everyone could compete at home.
It was wonderful to see the videos and photos from Reception to Year 8, with some amazing distances
run and jumped.
There was also a bonus challenge where a point was awarded for every kilometre walked, run or
cycled in the week leading up to the 20th June. It was incredible to see the long distances covered,
some children covering over 25km at a time.
With five points awarded for every completed scoresheet returned and all the extra kilometres
covered, it took a while to add up the scores. In a tight contest the bonus challenge made all the
difference, with Saxton being crowned the inaugural Virtual Sports Day Champions!
Overall results:
1. Saxton
2. Ashton
3. Paxton
4. Rushton

Remote Learning

Vinehall Magazine - 112

Last Easter was a little busier than usual for teachers up and down the country, as schools made preparations

for a completely new way of teaching and learning. Staff at Vinehall quickly familiarised themselves with the
intricacies of Microsoft Teams, learning how to set assignments, schedule lessons and upload videos. To
further aid the rapid upskilling process, the school turned to Nick Sturdee, Vinehall parent and documentary
filmmaker, who led workshops for the teachers on how to make and edit engaging films for the children.
The continued wellbeing of our children was, of course, of paramount importance when we planned the
remote learning provision. For this reason, we decided against having the children sitting in front of a
computer all day and instead opted for a model that would allow for time away from devices as well as
giving parents greater flexibility over how their children’s days were structured.
Throughout the period of remote learning, the children’s (and the parents’!) adaptability and resilience
was truly inspiring, and they were a credit to the school for the way in which they embraced learning in a
completely new way.
