2.1 The basic idea
ClawBack!
2. FORMAT INTRODUCTION
ClawBack! is a brand-new, winning entertainment format for all the family. One
where general knowledge, coordination and where even a bit of luck may go a
long way. Pitching family against family, contestants play through the initial
rounds leading to the ultimate Man vs Machine test of skill, bravery and luck!!
Loosely based on the classic British Arcade ‘Claw grabber’ crane game, families
play to win fantastic prizes. But the winning family won’t be playing for cuddly
toys, but holidays, cars and a massive cash prize, all to be found in the
ClawBack! ‘play zone’.
ClawBack! evolves and arcs to provoke dramatic and compelling competition resulting in one family becoming the overall winner, and where motivation, determination and luck can lead to a big cash prize - welcome to ClawBack!

ClawBack!
3. FORMAT DESCRIPTION
3.1 The programme
ClawBack! would like to invite 3 families (each of the families can be made up of immediate family members; including sons and daughters or other relatives) who like to play arcade games, enjoy family fun time, modern technology and ‘jeopardy’ - where only the brave may win the biggest prizes!!
Three families battle it out across two rounds to win ClawBack! ‘claw time’ until one family is left victorious. The twist? In the final third round, the successful team’s family member is suspended at the end of the ClawBack! crane, desperately trying to find those ClawBack! hidden prizes in the 9 ClawBack! play zones. But there is more...In a final jeopardy round, a further £50,000 is available to win. Do they take their winnings, or do they gamble for the big money prize?
ClawBack! capitalises on:
Nostalgic arcade games, family fun time, modern technology and jeopardy - where only the brave may win the biggest prizes!!
And yet there’s more...viewers will be able to play along during the show with the ClawBack! App available to download!!

4. THE PRESENTERS
4.1 The Presenters
ClawBacks! two presenters ensure that the participants abide by the rules - See Content 6, page 10. There is a studio presenter who introduces the families, presents the game and its rules throughout the show. The second presenter oversees the game in the ClawBack! play zone and liaises with the studio presenter.
N.B: We only show a studio presenter in the pilot
The studio presenter needs to be engaging with good listening skills, with an ability to encourage the contestants, and able to ‘banter’ with the teams in a playful, engaging manner...
The play zone presenter has to be a confident communicator, and engender confidence in the junior winning family member who plays out the Clawback! play zone in the final round.

ClawBack!
Following the opening graphics to the show, we are introduced to the studio presenter. Following his/her own ‘welcome’ introduction to camera, the presenter highlights a few rules and introduces the families...”let’s meet the teams”.
He/She begins...
Presenter scripted:
“Hello! Hello! Hello! And welcome to ClawBack!, a brand-new game show for all the family. Our families play the nine ClawBack! zones (Presenter indicates the actual game zone) in our Play Zone to win fantastic ClawBack! prizes. Using clues given during the show, it’s just a matter of finding them! But to win these fabulous prizes they’ll have to answer some questions along the way. But first, we must whittle our three families down to just one, who will then go on to play in the ClawBack! play zone, giving them the chance to win those all-important ClawBack! prizes. So are we ready? Shall we meet our ClawBack! Teams...?”
The presenter chats to the teams about their question fears and the ClawBack! prizes. He finishes with ....”Come on, let’s play ClawBack!” leading into round 1.

7. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
7.1 How the game is played The show is divided into 3 rounds.
The studio presenter asks true or false statements over three minutes and whoever buzzes in first answers the question. If that person answers correctly their team will be awarded one second of ‘Claw Time’, if they answer incorrectly, they’ll have one second of ‘Claw Time’ deducted. The two families with the most accumulated claw time in round one will progress into round two with the chance to go into the ClawBack! ‘Play Zone’ in
the final round. The team with the least ‘claw time’ is eliminated.
Round Two is based on the nine ClawBack! zones which make up the play zone. The successful family must also navigate these zones in the final round if they are to win any of the fantastic ClawBack! prizes. Both teams will see on a screen the play zone as a grid made up of 9 squares. In this round the teams make their way through the grid by answering a series of nine questions. With one question per square, the teams have 30 seconds to buzz in and answer the question asked by the presenter.
Round One is a quick fire, True or False, elimination round. Over three minutes,
the three families have to answer true or false questions with the remaining two
families going forward into the second round.

ClawBack!
The quicker the teams buzz in and answer, the more of the 30 seconds the teams will be able to add to their team’s overall ‘Claw Time’ in the final round. They’ll also receive a clue as to what might be in that specific ClawBack! zone.
But if the question is answered incorrectly, it is offered to the opposing team to have a guess at the right answer. If they also get it wrong, that ‘Claw Time’ will be lost forever along with that zone’s clue. Clues are also exclusive to the team that wins that zone. However, even if the team proceeds into the final round, they still won’t be able to view the clues their opponent’s may have won! And, as before, the family that proceeds into the final third round & the Clawback! play zone, is the team that adds the most time to their previous ‘Claw Time’ in round two!
The successful family from round two must now navigate the 9 ClawBack! zones in the final round if they are to win any of the fantastic ClawBack! prizes.

Round Three
ClawBack!
In the opening of round three, the presenter reminds the winning family of their winning ‘Claw Time’ - shown in the pilot as 97 seconds. The show now adds a
further 60 seconds of ‘Claw Time’ of its own, bringing the contestants total claw time up to 157 seconds, or 2 minutes 37 seconds.
The studio presenter then asks the family to allocate the time (2 minutes 37 seconds) to the ClawBack! play zones via a laptop. The presenter reminds the team that the ClawBack! time can go anywhere, and where they can also allocate the time to just one, or maybe to all 9 zones - if they have enough time.
The only rule is that the team cannot allocate less than 10 seconds worth of ‘Claw Time’ to any single zone!

ClawBack!
Before the winning family allocate the times to their chosen zones, the presenter reveals the clues from those zones that were won in round two - shown in the pilot as zones 2,5,6,7, and 9.
The presenter discusses with the family the potential prizes behind the clues, and which zones they want to allocate their most time to.
During the time the family are discussing their choices, the presenter informs the viewers about the new ClawBack! App, which can be available to download for next week’s show.
Presenter’s dialogue...
Why not play along with our families during the show, gain your own ClawBack! time, and enter the final round yourselves to try and find your own prizes. The top scorers each week will be in with a chance to win prizes of their own, including a new phone, £1000 cash prizes, and much more. Look out for it on ios & android devices from next week.

ClawBack!
Returning back to the family, the presenter discusses with the family their final choice of zone squares they wish to play....remember, this doesn’t have to be the original squares won...
Presenter dialogue...
So, you’ve left out some zones based on not having the clues, and others that were won seem to be left out. What I’m interested in is Zone 1? We don’t have a clue, but you’ve given it 20 seconds, why?
Following the discussion with the family about their final choice of zones to play, the presenter informs the family that the zone is ready to be played...
During this time, the junior member of the team has been taken off and got ready to play in the ClawBack! play zone...

The junior member of the team is suspended ready to play the first chosen ClawBack! play zone ...
Presenter dialogue cont’d...We can see him suspended above the game zone
ready, and waiting to play. And with our family below me, ready to cheer him on and to give him any help or advice, there’s a total of 2 minutes 37 seconds on the clock. We start with play zone One. Let’s play ClawBack! Your time starts now!
Format treatment Page 16 of 26
ClawBack!
During the 2 minutes 37 seconds the zones are played out, the presenter interjects and encourages the audience to cheer the family on to locate the ClawBack! prize capsules hidden in the zones... As the 2 minutes 37 seconds
counts down, with the ClawBack! player having retrieved three capsules, the presenter brings the play zone to an end...
Presenter dialogue:
And that’s it! That’s time! Wow that was some effort. 3 prizes retrieved from a possible 5 zones you selected. That was great [junior contestants name], I can see your gymnastics coming into play there. OK, for now [junior contestant’s name] please wait in the ClawBack! play zone so I can chat to the rest of the family. OK, we’ve put up on the board the zones you managed to find prizes in: 1, 6, & 9... next to the clues. We don’t know what prizes they are yet, but you might have an idea?
The presenter and the family discuss what the prizes could be...
Presenter dialogue cont’d: ...And here’s where things really get interesting...
The presenter now offers to the family an opportunity to play for all the prizes in the play zone, and a further cash prize of £50,000 by answering correctly the ClawBack! Jeopardy question!!
Format treatment Page 17 of 26
Presenter dialogue...
ClawBack!
I will ask you one more question, (the 9 possible answers could also be given as an upfront option - see following details) with a possible choice of nine answers, but only one of these will be the right answer. You not only have to choose the right zone, but you must then send [junior contestants name] back in for 30 seconds to find the capsule in that zone. But this is a gamble... If you don’t find the capsule you will lose everything. And even if you do find the capsule, there’s no guarantee that your answer is the right one until it is confirmed by our systems. So there you have it, what’s it going to be [Contestant’s family name], take what
you’ve got, or gamble everything. Feel free to talk through the board!
In the pilot we show the family deciding to answer the jeopardy question and play...the junior member gives the OK!!
The Presenter asks that the junior member is put back into position in the play zone...

ClawBack!
With the revealing of the ClawBack! Jeopardy question, and the nine possible answers, the Presenter pushes the family for an answer...
Following the family discussing and confirming the possible answer to the ClawBack! jeopardy question, the families give their choice of zone, which is locked in. The presenter then reminds them that there is 30 seconds on the clock to find the ClawBack! capsule once the time clock begins!
Presenter dialogue...So for one last time let’s play ClawBack!
The presenter, along with the family, encourages the junior member to find the capsule. The presenter also reminds them of the time running down, finally confirming that the 30 seconds has run out!!
In the pilot the capsule is found just as the Clawback! time runs out...

Presenter dialogue: And that’s it! He’s got it! Yes just about, but he’s got it! Let’s get you out of the game zone with the answer...
The Presenter turns to the family to celebrate whilst they wait for the junior member of the team to return...

The presenter reminds the family that although a capsule has been retrieved in time, it may not be the either the right zone, or the right answer until it has been opened and confirmed.
Confirming that they have won (shown in the pilot) all the prizes including the £50,00 prize money, the family celebrate whilst the presenter closes the show...
Presenter dialogue..
Well done to (contestants names)...we’ll see you next time on ClawBack!... Credits roll

8. The Details
8.1 Playing the game remotely or manually & other details.
● The first option (indicated in the pilot) is where the claw-grabber crane machine is operated remotely. With the grid and time allocations made by the family (entered into their laptop) the machine remotely places, immerses and withdraws the human claw as per the allocated time and grid selection. With the studio and play zone presenters confirming that all members of the team are ready, the studio presenter says, “start the clock”, as the child is remotely immersed and plays out the individual, timed grid selections. The claw-grabber crane remotely withdraws the child following the timing out of the grid. Along with the family watching the zone being played out, the studio presenter keeps an eye on the clock as he/she also encourages the player to find the hidden capsule along with the other team, family members.
● The second option: Following the same grid and time selections made by the family, the junior member of the team is suspended from the ClawBack! Claw-grabber crane. With the studio and play zone presenters confirming that all members of the team are ready, the studio presenter says, “start the clock”, as the child is manually immersed and plays out the timed grid selection as before. This is now done with one member of the family manually controlling the movement of the claw crane, with the second family member following the action from video cameras following the zone search. This second adult family member also offers up further instructions to the crane operator and child if it is advantageous to do so. With the studio presenter watching the clock tick down, he/she ensures that the child has to stop searching for the capsule and is withdrawn from the zone immediately the zone times out.
● To create and build tension in round three, the jeopardy question could be shown in two different ways.
● The first way (shown in the pilot) shows the jeopardy question offered to the contestants without showing the choice of the nine grid answers (including the right answer). The contestants decide, on the basis of how confident they are in answering the jeopardy question correctly, whether to answer the question or not before they see the nine potential answers.
Format treatment Page 22 of 26
ClawBack!
● The second option (not shown in the pilot) is where the nine grid answers (including the right answer) is shown alongside the jeopardy question, giving the contestants an opportunity to see if their notion of the correct question is shown and potentially correct. If the family decide to go for the jeopardy question, the junior member of the team is given 30 seconds to find the hidden capsule in the chosen zone as before.
● In the final round (round three) the junior member of the team wears a helmet camera to capture the action.
BUT......THE ClawBack! ‘MAGIC’ DOESN’T STOP THERE....
● In THE FINAL TWIST, even if the junior member of the team finds the capsule, it could still reveal an incorrect answer. If this happens, they also lose all the previously won prizes.
8.2 Tariff and Tax authorities
● To be confirmed, Cash prizes must be registered and pay additional prize VAT of 17.5%. The production company must pay this.
8.3 The intro & opening credits:
The intro - We see a montage of clips from the show playing out, giving context to the show straight away, whilst not giving away any show outcomes i.e. clips from the Play Zone - revealing the junior member’s identity. At the end we see a ClawBack! graphic to open the show...
The outro is the same as the intro. The outro also includes a taste of what’s coming up in the second show. VT shows a snapshot of the next game.
