WHY THIS PRODUCT IS INNOVATIVE

Raising awarenes of plastic waste

It's not new fact that one of the biggest
environmental problem now is plastic waste,
especially that ended up in the ocean and
contaminate it.

With more people now being aware of dangerous
effect of environmental problem, many company
now raising it as their product theme. One of it is
Adidas.

Found alternative
component

Usually shoes body made from
polyester and polyester made from
petroleum. we all know that
petroleum mining is harmful for the
environment, so more shoes
produce means bigger
environmental problem.

Partnering up with parley for the
ocean, adidas x parley found an
alternative way to finish this problem
with changing their fiber component
from petroleum to plastic.

HISTORY

So the history from adidas x parley came
from Eric Liedtke, the executive of Adidas in
2015, chose to use recycled plastics in the
production of the Adidas Parley shoes, as he
felt that there were many potential
applications for its use and that it would also
serve as part of a solution to the ocean plastic
problem.

This formed the start of a long term
initiative project by Adidas to eliminate new
plastic from its supply chain and to expand its
plastic cultivation to more athletic product
lines. Adidas has used recycled polyester and
sustainable cotton in previous athletic
products, but these production runs are
small in comparison to their ocean plastic
shoe initiative

HOW ITS MANUFACTURED

It's started from parley and its partner
collecting plastic waste from the ocean
Then the plastic waste is sorted and send to
adidas processing plant
Adidas only uses plastic bottles that contain
polyethylene terephthalate, or PET. the rest
is sent to normal recycling facilities.
Plant crushes, washes, and dehydrates the
waste, leaving nothing but small plastic
flakes.
The flakes are heated, dried, and cooled,
then cut into small resin pellets.
Adidas melts these pellets to create a
filament
Adidas uses Ocean Plastic to form the
upper parts of shoes and clothing like
jerseys
