editorial & Hi everyone….

HIP or Highly Immersive Programme is the brainchild of
MOE, to involve every level of the school community in
learning and using English in our daily life. Alas, school
activities cannot be done physically, the idea of creating
an e-Bulletin seems to be the most appropriate and
suitable way to share ideas, articles, activities and what
not with all of you. I hope everyone will enjoy reading
our first-born E-Bulletin. Thank you…

Assalamualaikum wbt .. appraisal
Hello everyone ..

t’s now half way through 2021. The school has obviously started but we are still coping to normalise the new form of teaching and
learning. Nevertheless, I think some of us have already get used to it for sure. I understand that it’s hard for some of you but everything
has to be done online. I know we didn't even get to feel a school environment and class atmosphere but it's the best for us for now until
the pandemic, Covid-19 ends.

In conjunction with the English Week; where the activities are also done online, the English Panel is introducing TABURA’S FIRST E-
BULLETIN , an online bulletin as part of the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP). This programme aims to ensure English is used by
the whole community of SMKTBR 1 including the parents. You may read articles, play games , learn something new from the pages and
at the same time, take the opportunity to improve your English. You might even be brave enough to try using it.

English should no more be prevalent .Learning English language should go beyond your school books and homework. It should be a
lifelong process. The opportunities are there for you, so make sure you take them.
Stay safe and be happy!

Enjoy reading and have fun.
Thank you.

appraisal

reeting to Puan Zarina bt Abdul Rahman, the Principal of SMK Taman Bunga Raya (1), the administrators, the
teachers, parents and beloved students. I am thankful to Allah s.w.t because with His bounty and His
permission I was also able to write a few words in the e-bulletin in conjunction with the English Week.
Congratulations and well done to the English Language Committee for their efforts to hold English Language
Week even in the situation of working from home and implementing PdPR. All these do not break the spirit of
the teachers to continue to impart knowledge to the students.
This activity is very beneficial to the students to highlight their talents and potential. For students, this is an
opportunity for you to develop your skills in English and further master English where English is the most widely
used medium of communication in the world.
Finally, I would like to express my highest appreciation and thanks to all involved in making this
English Week a success: directly or indirectly. I hope everyone will enjoy reading the
e-bulletin and this will be a beginning of others ..
Thanks a million…

Winchester Mystery House (Unit 2 – Life’s Great

Mysteries)

In 1884, heartbroken Sarah Winchester left her home in Connecticut on the east coast of the USA as well as
the graves of her husband and only child, and travelled across the country to California where a strange
obsession awaited her. Did she know that it would last for the rest of her life? When her husband passed
away, Sarah inherited the Winchester gun and rifle company, which had made the Winchester family very
wealthy. After the deaths of her child and husband, Sarah fell into a deep depression and decided to consult
a medium. According to some sources, the medium explained that her family was being haunted by the
ghosts of American soldiers and others killed by Winchester rifles. Supposedly the deaths of her daughter and
husband had been caused by these spirits and Sarah Winchester might be the next victim. The medium said
that to keep the ghosts happy, Sarah had to build a huge house for them. As long as she never stopped
building the house, her life would not be in danger. Sarah left Connecticut for California. There, in 1884, she
bought a small unfinished farmhouse and over the next 38 years , she employed builders around-the-clock
to add room after room, and storey after storey. The building work never stopped, not even for weekends or

holidays and it produced the house known today as the Winchester Mystery House.

Some Peculiar Facts about Winchester Mystery House

● The house was built continuously for 38 years, giving the house the record of the
longest continuous home construction in the Guinness Book of World Records.

● $5.5 million was spent on the house. After she died in 1922, the house was valued
at just $5,000 and was sold at an auction for $135,531.50.

● There were 160 rooms, 2000 doors, 10,000 windows, 47 staircases, 13 bathrooms
BUT there was only ONE shower in the whole house.

● It takes more than 20,000 gallons of paint to cover the mansion.

● Winchester was superstitious and was obsessed with the number 13. There were 13
hooks in the seance room, 13 overflow drain holes in the sink in the Hall of Fires, and
13 parts to her will, which she signed 13 times., etc.

● Sarah Winchester slept in a different bedroom every night, never repeating rooms
two nights in a row. The house had 40 bedrooms.

● A hidden safe was discovered in the ballroom. Found inside were two locks of hair --
of Winchester's deceased daughter and her husband.
