Unique stylish terrazzo
This 50 range throws us back to the start of
the family business. It not only reminds us
of the staircase towards the photo studio of
Pierre Vanhalst but also of the hallway in the
Patisserie of his son Lieven Vanhalst. Reason
enough to launch this terrazzo celebration
collection in different unique shapes and
colours. Thanks to the trendy colours, the
individual items can easily be combined into
stylish constellations.

Facet

page 18

From origami to interior design accessories:
meet Facet.

Few things are so personal and diverse as an
interior. It is a combination of a host of choices
and considerations. It is about stories and
materials, a reflection of its inhabitants. Facet, the
new collection of interior design accessories by
the Atelier Pierre family, complements this story
perfectly. It aims to be an expression of creative
diversity and add a certain ambiance to every
interior.

page 19

Cides

Cides and Vanhalst,
a match made in heaven
Facet was developed within the scope of the 5x5®
project of Designregio Kortrijk, wich is the platform for
creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship of the region
of Kortrijk. This 5x5® programme created the
opportunity for Cides Product Design and Vanhalst to
work together. Cides contributed refined ideas, a high
degree of functionality and strong design; Vanhalst
added feeling for business, logistic organisation and
trendsetting to the mix.
From design to logistics
In addition to the challenge the design represented, the
collaboration also had to be logistically feasible.
Customers often do not see the entire workflow behind
a product although this is also a key aspect of the
overall story. Fortunately the collaboration was as
effortless as it was enthusiastic and the success of the
undertaking was never in doubt.
Facet
The development of Facet is the culmination of an
intensive process of preparation. The Japanese art of
folding paper inspired a geometric collection with sleek
lines and soft, natural colours and materials. Bringing
nature indoors.

wood + cork noticeboard with smart add-ons
Living grand today means living compact. Thus,
smart, flexible and space-saving living solutions
are key, even for the workspace. Paulien created
WO+RK, with this living evolution in mind. An
ingenious, compact noticeboard which combines
flexibility and contemporary looks.

page 23

Paulien Callewaert

Paulien has had the creative bug for drawing and crafts
ever since childhood. Between the ages of six and
eighteen, she went to art school, where she fully indulged
in drawing, painting, arts and crafts. She continued to be
captivated by her love for drawing & crafts and was
convinced this would be her future direction.

Soothing design with a playful touch
“I love to mix and match. I enjoy working with different
materials, structures… I like to combine and contrast.” That
is what characterizes Paulien’s passion: being creative and
product design. “I always like it when a product allows
the user to get creative with it, when the product is both
functional and aesthetically pleasing.” Her designs are
always a harmony of soothing design with a playful touch.

Innovation and creative solutions
“When I walked past our noticeboard and everything fell
off for the 100th time, I felt that this concept desperately
needed to be revisited. I think that many families have way
too much on their noticeboards. I wanted to renew the
idea, make it more functional, more playful, trendier.”

Sturdy and still so elegant
Indeed, these are the main characteristics of the noRdic
Outdoor collection… The complete noRdic range is
available in corten steel (weathering steel), which persists
in all kinds of weather conditions. And off course, the
beauty of this particular material, is that fact that it rusts in
a very elegant way.
The figurines, originally in dark steel, get a very nice rusty
look and feel after a few months. In this way, each of the
corten steel figures – moose, llama, wolf, falcon, rabbit and
pine tree - give an extra touch and colour to your outdoor
environment.

Pure design, sustainable materials
For this range of living accessories, the
creative team went looking for what is
essential, for what is simple. They found
it in a Scandinavian design: minimalist
animal figures made up of pieces, like a
jigsaw puzzle, that are laser cut from a
sheet of pale unfinished wood. Atelier
Pierre’s® noRdic collection includes a
wide range of animal figures and
decorative elements. The pure design
and the use of warm, sustainable materi-
als make the items stand out as stylish
pieces of decoration that work in every
home.

Eva Desloovere

“Eva’s been productive again, my kindergarten teacher
used to say, whenever I was caught filling the back covers
of the schoolbooks with my drawings.”
Apparently that was enough of a signal for my parents.
When I was 6 they sent me to a Freinet school, where my
creativity was encouraged in every possible way. It didn´t
make any difference to me whether it was during or after
the school hours; I was always busy. Drawing and painting,
naturally, but I got just as much pleasure out of modelling
with clay, pottery-making, making candles or crocheting.
Most of all I liked to copy already-existing drawings. Then,
once I’d mastered the style, I would do my own drawings
in the same vein.

Nature
Nature is a continual source of inspiration. I like to work
organic forms into my designs. But the playful aspect
is also a constant. These two aspects come together
beautifully in the collection that I was able to develop for
Vanhalst. The exotic, summery feeling of a place like Miami
appealed to me enormously.

Simplicity and a pure line
Simplicity and a pure line are also the starting
point in this ´range´ of Atelier Pierre. For the
collection, designer Daisy Bohyn drew inspiration
from the roaring twenties and thirties, the period
when Pierre started working as a photographer.
The vocabulary for the new series developed with
the contours of two hats, Henri and Léonore, that
speak to the imagination. Daisy refines them into
polished and lacquered wood, ready to make a
statement against the wall. As ´mood lighting´
they make the environment shimmer in indirect
and dimmable LED light.
Her infectious enthusiasm and eye for detail also
gave her an opportunity, in a unique partnership
with Mercis bv, to work with Miffy. The young
Belgian designer uses the same technique and the
same material to confirm the design icon status
of the main character from Dick Bruna´s
children´s books.

The first signs of Daisy Bohyn´s fascination for architec- MWA-101-B small 24 x 25 cm

childhood. Even then she enjoyed taking all kinds
of things apart. “I should add that I was also crazy about miffy LED Mood light
drawing, so it wasn´t altogether surprising that, I opted
for a secondary school with a focus on the arts.” MWA-101-A small 24 x 25 cm

“My passion for interior design developed gradually, and
I registered for an Interior Architecture programme. That
enabled me to get a clear picture of the manifold
possibilities in the field of design. To be able to develop
a broader vision on products and technologies, I later
chose to get hands-on training in Industrial Product
Design.”

Equilibrium
“In each phase of a design process, I strive for an equi-
librium between functionality, philosophy and aesthetic
added value. In everything I create, my ambition is to
fuse the two worlds of interior design and product deve-
lopment.”

“The idea for Wall Art, and more specifically Chap-O,
came to me when I immersed myself in the era where
Pierre Vanhalst - to whom Atelier Pierre owes its name
- was at his most creative. The hat fashion of the 1920´s
immediately struck me.”

myBOO!

page 46

Hi, I’m myBOO!
I’m a sweet little ghost! I’m here to protect you from bad ghosts.
1 First I search the room for ghosts and I scare away the bad ones. I’m red now.
2 When I’m blue, I’m scanning the room to check if there are any sweet ghosts.
3 And when I’m sure your room is completely safe, I turn green.
4 I turn white, keep you company and protect you while you are asleep.

Sweet Dreams!

AP Junior x MyMachine myBOO Gosthunter

MyMachine is a foundation acting worldwide with one MY-830 H 20 x Ø 14,7 cm
goal: showing students how creativity enables them to
bring ideas to life. With this multi-award winning
methodology, students learn that the world is malleable
and how one can also contribute to society, rather then
just be a consumer of society.
With myBOO, we now add an extra step to this remarka-
ble project: professionals from AP Junior create, design,
prototype, manufacture and bring to market this
childern’s dream machine.

First register, then donate or recycle

myBOO is build to last. This means, when you no longer
need your myBOO, there are different options to consi-
der (so please don’t throw me away). You can choose to
donate your myBOO to a child (from a disadvantaged
home) in your neighbourhood or via MyMachine.

If in the end you would decide your myBOO has protec-
ted as many homes as possible, it is build in a way that
all parts can be separatly recycled. But before doing so,
don’t forget to register your myBOO via an online world
map and tell us which area is ghost free. This map shows
all the places on the planet where a myBOO is keeping
children safe.
