Captains News

Fellow Nomads,

The September game at Port Elizabeth Golf Club
was played on Sunday the 22nd was played in cold
and wet weather. I played with the club captain and fellow Nomad Ian
Gooden, Brendon McNeill and guest David Wiblen.

My thanks to all members that completed their round on Sunday, and
unlucky for those that chose to not complete the round as that
brought down the average.

The course was in good condition with the greens being a little wet,
fairways were in good condition.

Thanks to P.E.G.C. and all the staff for that was done for Nomads.

Congratulation to Pop Pitsiladi, (who did not play) for his 30 year tie
award. We had 1 induction Dan Le Cordeur.

Congratulation to the divisional winners and runners up, and all the
winners on the day.

I would like to thank the ladies for assisting with registration and
prize sheet and hope to see them at the table the rest of the year.

The Seaboard challenge has come and gone, we never did as well as
we did last year, the result being S/Cape, Boland, E/Cape,
W/Province and Border.

The Botswana 19th Nationals took place from the 12th- 14th October
2019, well done to Cobus for winning the S.A. best golfer, and myself
for not that well.

I did get a Silver Salva for the 40 points achieved for the 2 days
(Hahaha), my first time there was an eye opener as they also have the
drought situation and there is hardly any grass. The cowboy bar
was well supported and thanks to there sponsors.

My thanks to all the Walmer Country Club members for moving to
alternative clubs until the matter has been resolved.

Vice Captain Update

Fellow Nomads,

Sorry for the lack of magazine reports from your VC
so far this year, but as you all may know that when starting your own
business, you have little time for yourself and have less time for
where and what obligations one has.
But in saying that, just some feedback from the AMT.
Firstly, I would like to that my committee for their hard work on the
race day we had July. Thanks to the Nomads that made the effort to
be there, but I must add that I was a bit disappointed at the turn out.
Taking the economy situation into account, it could explain some
things. The day was enjoyed by all, unfortunately we did not make
as much as we had hoped. This was due to poor turnout and some
sponsors pulling out a day or two before, hence losing out on much
needed revenue.
We still have the AMT golf day coming up early in the new year, so
hopefully we can make some amends.
Guys these are two very worthy charities and I really appeal to you all
to make the golf day a success. Further information on this to follow
shortly.

Regards,
Paul Hand

Good day Fellow Nomads

What can we say about the weather, NOTHING…
IT's GREAT TO GET SOME RAIN!!!
I must firstly thank my four ball for completing the round as we all
know it was a Battle! My four ball which consisted of Colin Battle
and Hannes Vlok with my partner Tim Smuts. We were so close to
not finishing but we pushed through.
I must thank the members for the improvement in the discipline at
prize giving this month, we all know it takes a little bit longer and
having wet cards certainly does not help.
We are off to the Natex meeting in Durban next week end so
hopefully we will have some interesting news to bring back to our
members.
Congratulations to all the lucky winners.
Thanks to Jeanne, Christelle and Bev for your time and hard work
that you both put in for us, as usual on the day.

Yours in golfing to all EC Nomads.

Letter from the Editor

Fellow Nomads,

Handicap Rules changed this October...

Please read below for a summary:

As part of the transition to the World Handicap System, GolfRSA will be
changing the maximum score allowed per hole, with effect from 1 October
2019, to a Net Two Over Par (sometimes referred to as a Net Double Bogey).

The current method of determining your maximum score for the hole is a
maximum of 2 over par, unless you have two Course Handicap strokes on a
hole, in which case you must enter a 3 over par.

From 1st October 2019, the maximum score on any hole for your Handicap
Score will be a Net Two Over Par (or Net Double Bogey), which is equal to
Zero Stableford points.

(Note: a net score on a hole is your Gross Score less any Course Handicap
Strokes you have on that hole, while a Bogey is a 1-over-par score.)

Example:

If a golfer has a Course Handicap of 18, they get 1 handicap stroke
per hole, so they must enter a maximum score of 3 over par on any
hole where they blow out. If a golfer has a handicap of 9, then on
stroke holes 1 to 9 they must enter a maximum score of 3 over par
on those holes and, on stroke holes 10 to 18, a maximum of 2 over
par.

If you are in any doubt about maximum scores, please ask your
Proshop to assist you. Alternatively, you can enter your actual
gross score on each hole on your HNA Phone App, the club
terminal or at www.handicaps.co.za. The system will
automatically adjust your score to your maximum allowed on a
hole according to your Course Handicap when you press “Enter
Score”.

The effect of this change to the maximum score allowed on a hole
will result in Handicap Indexes, on average, going up. However,
the simultaneous change of the Handicap Calculation to the

Letter from the Editor

average of the best 8 of the last 20 scores on the 1st of
October (as covered in this previous newsletter),
should ensure that the overall effect on your
handicap over time will be minimal.

This change should also have a negligible effect on
the speed of play because currently most golfers
continue to play until they have no Stableford points.

I would also like to clarify something you may have read about not
allowing to submit a score when you have preferred lies. This is
totally incorrect and all scores must be entered. It is the objective
of GolfRSA, the different Golf Unions and Clubs to do away with
preferred lies as a standard rule and only permit preferred lies in
the event of conditions warranting it. Getting a bit of a bad lie on a
bare patch in winter is part of the game.

Remember the 1st rule of golf “Play the course as you find it and
play the ball as it lies”.

Good golfing!!!
