Captains News

Fellow Nomads,

So, Sunday 20th June was Fathers Day and did
Humewood Golf Club dish us out a Fathers Day
present of note - perfect weather.

I had the privilige of playing with
our National Chairman, Stuart
McIver - along with Rowlin
Adonis and my best friend and
guest from Gauteng, Claude de
Ville. Well, Claude and I did the
politically correct thing and let
the Nash and Rowlin win - but
only this time! We both paid over
happily and have moved on after
that (with a bit of counseling
required on Monday!) Well
played gents - we will have some revenge at some stage.

The course was in great condition
and I’m surprised the scores were
so low? Well done to Jason
Saunders, Jason Aitken and Jayden
Polglase on their Divisional wins on
38, 36 and 37 points respectively.

I’m not sure why my son, David, has
decided to start collecting Teddy’s
(is there something I should know)
but 21 point should have been good
enough to dodge that bullet - it was
not to be!

Unfortunately, I was not made aware that we had to place our
Halfway House orders in at the golf shop before we tee’ed off, so I
couldn’t let you know - that was the only slip up on the day - I
appologise for that!

Thank you to our JVC - Brendon and Chris King for that Fathers Day

gift of a bottle on Glenbrynth for all the fathers - a
lovely touch!

Thanks also to our ladies (Jeanne, Christell and
Joanne) for the hard work they did on Sunday from
registration to completing the prize sheet even
though we didn’t have prize giving. The whole
process went very smoothly and nice to not have any
hitches.

We still have to push to get payments in for our games. Gents, we
are not going back to cash payments at the game for your green
fees, so we really need you to make your payments when you
register and send that Proof Of Payment through to us.

Well done to Ian “Bunter”
Macaulay on his Eagle on
the Stroke 1, 8th hole. A
simple drive and 9 iron into
the hole! Hope you enjoy
your box of TaylorMade golf
balls that you have won,
sponsored by Dennis Jones
and PDP Maintenance!

I look forward to seeing you at Uitenhage Golf Club in July for our
Monthly Game there - we will advise if we can have prize giving
closer to the time. I encourage and challenge you all to bring a guest
and show them what Nomads is all about!

Vice Captain Update

Good day Nomads,

I chose to spend my Father’s Day with my family so I
missed out on the Humewood game this month.
I did however play a make up game in the Southern
Cape a week earlier, Simola was an amazing challenge as always
and for once it was not wet…
The Southern Cape hosting was as expected, AMAZING and
efficient, registration was a breeze and the only wasted time was
taken up by a few Jägermeister’s at the bar.
Thanks must go to my travel companions, well deserved outing
with great company.
The next game is Uitenhage and the course in winter the course
plays its best!!

See you gents …
VC Snapper

JVC News

Dear Fellow Nomads

What a great day out at Humewood. Truly blessed by
the weather gods, 30 degrees in the middle of winter
and hardly any wind to speak of. The course is in
great condition and was an absolute pleasure to play.
A special thanks to the staff at Humewood who had the challenge
of hosting Nomads as well as their own members and guests for a
Father's Day luncheon. A professional affair. There was only one
slight hiccup in that it was not really made clear to us as to the
halfway setup which was to pre-order your meal. However, I must
also take the blame for this as I was aware of the setup having
played there 2 weeks earlier and slipped up by not notifying the
registration table to inform the players. So, to those of you who
were on the unfortunate receiving end of this little slip up, please
accept my humblest apologies. However, in saying that, there are
some of us like our erstwhile Captain who could afford to skip a
halfway house or two. To all those members who could not play
due to Father's Day commitments, sincere apologies for the
logistical oversight. I am extremely confident that the day has
been clearly highlighted for future reference.

To Chris King, a very big Thank You for the miniature bottles of
Glenbrynth which were handed out as Father's Day gifts to the
players. It was very well received and I know that they came in very
handy for some on the course.

Thank you to my covey of Ian “Bunter” Macaulay, Desmond
“Tappie” White and my guest and playing partner and hopefully
future Nomad, Wesley Kew. Wesley is currently a member at
Humewood and also serves on the committee at the club. I believe
he will be a great addition to the Nomads fraternity. What a sight to
watch Bunter hole out for 2 on the stroke 1, 8th hole. After playing
2 shots, I still had not reached his drive but a least I did not have to
go down on my knee to retrieve my ball out of the hole. Well played
Bunter. There was however consolation in that we still managed to
take full house off Bunter and Tappie. Always a pleasure to help
lighten the load.

It is great to see our Nomads travelling to the other clubs to
participate in their monthly games. That is what Nomads is all

JVC News

about. If I could ask those who are fortunate enough
to participate in these games to please give us
feedback on their experience. (i.e. what do the other
clubs do differently that we could possibly adopt to
enhance the experience of our own monthly game
and thus hopefully make it more attractive for current and
prospective members. Areas to consider would be registration,
on course experiences, costs, prize giving, etc.) Any positive
feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would even like to
suggest that travelling parties consider drafting a short report on
their visits which could then be published in the monthly
magazine. Some tour photographs would also be a great addition.

If you have any concerns, issues or suggestions, please do not
hesitate to contact Ian, Snapper or myself. Alternatively, you can
drop a mail to the Club Secretary, David Gooden at
[email protected] and he will ensure that it is
distributed to the relevant person or persons.

Lastly, if I could implore on all our Nomads to assist with
sponsorships towards the prize table. If we look at other
provinces it is my perception that the majority of the prize table is
coming from within the club. Under the currently economic
circumstances, outside sponsorship is extremely difficult to come
by and understandably difficult to justify. Thus, if any Nomad is in
a position to make any form of contribution, monetary or other, it
will go a long way to enhancing our prize table. No amount is too
small and it does not have to be a fixed commitment, it can be done
on an adhoc basis as and when the budget allows. Thank You.

As always, a big shout out to our loyal sponsors and to all our
members for their continued support of our great club.

See you at Uitenhage.

Cheers and stay safe.

Yours in Nomads.
