Fellow Nomads
It has been one busy month after the next and since our last
game I have been to Swaziland Nationals with 5 other Eastern
Cape Nomads and can certainly say that the Swazi Nomads
put on an exceptional show and really made the weekend a
very special one. Anyone who has not participated in a Swazi Nationals
should really try and make an effort to attend, I know I certainly will be doing
my best to play next year, this time I may choose to fly as oppose to driving!
Having basically just arrived back from Swaziland we went straight into
preparation for the South Easter Tournament against our neighbours
Southern Cape.
On the Saturday we played St Francis Links, what can I say, the course is
immaculate and the service from Jeff and his staff is second to none, it
really is easy to see why they are considered one of the best courses in the
country. Thank you again to Jeff and his staff for their hospitality! On the
day the weather was superb with only a slight breeze which made a
considerable change from the rain and gale force winds last year. I was
fortunate to play with Jeff and two of the ex Border Nomads in Mark Verwey
and Rob Rusteberg. I had a fantastic day with my fourball and we shared
loads of good laughs throughout the day. The Eastern Cape boys as a
whole certainly played very well on the day and managed to wrestle back
the South Easter from Southern Cape. Well Done! I must thank John Nell
for all his efforts in organising this event. It really takes a great deal of effort
to pull something like this together.
On the Sunday we were equally blessed with fantastic weather, there was
hardly a breath of wind for the majority of the day and the scores certainly
reflected this. I must thank Richard Vauqulin, the St Francis Bay Club
Captain, for the fantastic hospitality on Sunday, your course is looking in
exceptional condition and I'm sure the holiday makers in December will
agree with this assessment! My counterpart from Southern Cape, Christo
Langehoven and his guest Ferdi Jonck made up my fourball on the day. We
had a great day out and I'm sure we would not complain if we had to play
together in the near future. I must say that
I was concerned about being an altar
bunny on Sunday as we had two guests
in our fourball, who's handicaps had
been given the chop! This was
certainly not the case and I was treated
to some exceptional golf from both
Richard and Ferdi who shot 38 and 37
points respectively!
Best Playing Pair
... and golfer of the day!
Captains News (Cont)
I would like to thank Jeanne, Christell and Rachell for their
help on the day. It really was kind of the three of you to make
the trip out to St Francis, your efforts are appreciated by both
the Eastern and Southern Cape Nomads! We had a bit of a
slow month following the bumper amount of awards handed
out at our 45th Anniversary game. We only had one award
this month and this was a 20 year tie to Steve Pritchard.
Pritchie well done and a big thank you for your commitment to the club,
long may it continue!
Our next monthly game will be at Port Elizabeth Golf Club on 10 December,
this is our final game of the playing calendar and is our Gold Cup
competition. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for a
fantastic weekend!
