Captains News

Fellow Nomads

We move into the second month of the year and the lead up to
Nationals begins with only a few weeks to go. We were
blessed with some exceptional weather at Wedgwood for our
monthly game and as always we were made to feel exceptionally welcome
by Hector and his staff. In addition to the superb weather we were treated to
a course in in fantastic condition which is no mean feat during the current
drought. Sadly the managerial staff were not available to join us on the day
due to prior commitments, however I know they were with us in spirit and
ensured the staff on duty looked after us superbly.

I was fortunate on the day to have a great fourball of Tim Mason, Kenneth
Snape and prospective Nomads Karl Rohroff. I was very fortunate to get my
first 40 pointer on the day and I can honestly say this was due to some great
encouragement from my playing partners, must say though that Snapper
does have interesting methods of encouraging players! It was actually a
very tight affair between the pairings, however we were lucky to take the
game in the end. I must also congratulate Ian Macaulay on shooting a
superb 41 points! Prizegiving started a bit later than intend and for that I
do apologize, we did our best to get this completed as quickly as possible, I
do thank all the members for their patience in this regard. At this point I
would like to give special thanks to John Nell, Dennis Jones and Paul Hand
for their efforts in setting up the altar, this is really a job that is taken for
granted and these gents do it month in and month out for very little thanks.
It was a quiet day on the awards front with no awards or inductions taking
place on the day. I can confirm that there are a number of individuals who
have shown interest in joining in the near future which from a club
perspective is a good place to be.

Very big congratulations to Cobus and his committee on their AMT efforts
this year, he has exceeded the amount
he targeted and I am sure those
additional funds will be greatly
appreciated by the NSRI. His AMT Golf
Day was held on 2 February and by all
accounts was an incredible success
both from a fundraising and

camaraderie perspective. He managed to all but fill the
afternoon field which has not been done for the past few
years.

In no time the Eastern Cape team will be making their way to Cape Town for
Nationals. This is always a trip that is anticipated by Nomads around the
country and world and is a time where we get to play the sport we love while
making new friendships and renewing old ones. Ian O'Connor has done
stirling work in organising the trip and the accommodation for the team
which has proven to be quite tricky at times, he has however managed to
find accommodation for the majority of the team at a single venue which I'm
sure is appreciated by all those making the journey! Good luck to all
Eastern Cape Nomads making the journey!

After Nationals, our next game will be held at Uitenhage Golf Club on 25
March. As Nomads this a game which we truly should support as they have
been struggling in recent times so our support will be greatly appreciated!

JVC News

Good day Fellow Nomads,

Sunday at Walmer where it was very windy, the golf was
well attended, and all went off well. Glad to have Stella
Artois back as our after-match beer.

Thanks to all that assisted in setting up the alter, and all the guilty parties
for the packing up. See many hands make light work of packing up the
alter.

Our next game being a Sunday early morning game the 11th February 2018.

Yours in Nomads,
John Nell
