Captains News

Fellow Nomads

We have finally reached the end of our playing which as you all
know has been a shortened one. Congratulations and very
well played to all the winners at Gold Cup! The year flew by,
but there is no rest for the wicked and in January we will be
starting the new playing year which will culminate in Gold Cup being in
December as it was this year. The Gold Cup field this year was
unfortunately quite poor and we have discussed the potential reason for
this and attribute it to the timing of the game. We felt that it would probably
improve next year if we had it in the first week of December before the silly
season takes over. Having said that I think those that did play thoroughly
enjoyed the day out which was made that much better by the weather and

the Port Elizabeth Golf
Clubs exceptional
hospitality, thank you
again to Graeme and his
team for all their efforts on
the day. Personally I think
the course was looking in
brilliant condition,
something which is not
easy to achieve with the
continued drought. I would
especially like to extend all
thanks from all the Nomads
to John Els from Tavcor
Commercial Mount Road
for their generous
sponsorship of the day,
what many of the Nomads don't realise, is that without such sponsorships
the club would not be able to hold these events. So please if you are in the
market for a new vehicle, please give John and his team a call and see what
they can offer you.

It really is quite something to organise
a Gold Cup prize giving, but it is made
considerably easier when you have an
excellent team to assist, in particular I
would like to thank Ian Gooden and
John Nell for all their help in the build
up to Sunday. Luckily the weather also
played the part, it really wasn't looking
to promising in the early part of the

week, but it seemed to clear just in time. I thoroughly enjoyed
my game on the day, being drawn with Andre Bothma,
Howard Lipman and Hughy Victor. Scoring wasn't of the
highest standard, but a tight game still ensued! The golf shot
of the day had to go to Hughy Victor where he came within
about 4 inches of making a superb hole in one on the 5th,
unfortunately he had to settle for a tap in birdie! I must thank
Cobus and John for conducting prize giving in a very efficient manner even
with all the extra prizes and trophies the total length of the prize giving was
not significantly longer. . The day from my perspective went off without any
major issues which certainly helped the stress levels on the day. As always,
a huge thank you to Jeanne, Bev and Christell for their help on the day.
There were no tie awards or game badges awarded on the day, however we
had ample trophies to hand out and once again congratulations to all the
winners
We thankfully head into a quiet patch now and our next game will be a
morning game at Walmer Country Club, which we follow with a braai.
Family are obviously welcome to attend. This for me was a fantastic
initiative last year and worked exceptionally well. So please do join us for
what promises to be a fun day out!
Essentially that is all from me for 2017…. I would just like to wish all the
Nomads and their families a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New
Year.

Until 2018 …….

Vice Captains News

Fellow Nomads

Good day Fellow Nomads. What a year we've had.

We had a few resignations this year but also a number
of new Nomads join us which helped to stabilise our
numbers at 84 Active member with a total membership
of 104 overall. Great job well done Martin!

As Vice Captain, I opted to make NSRI our beneficiary. I contacted Ian from
Station 6 and confirmed with him that we will try and generate R 60 000 for
them this year to be used in support of the work that they do.

After out Race day we had raised close to R 33 000.00. We also had the
Joker Draw which has been well supported and to date we have raised
approximately R 4 500.00 with this initiative .

Greg Clack donated R 500.00 towards the AMT fund (thanks for that Greg).
We also received our AMT and SAB donations which amount to around R 11
000.00. So as you can see we are on track to achieve our goal.

Our last effort will be the AMT golf day at PE Golf Club on 2nd Feb 2018.
Please book this date in your calendar and bring some friends to play on
that day. The format will be a “Mystery four-ball Alliance”.

Gold Cup was a huge success and we had some tight games to determine
the various winners in the different competitions.

I hope that we will have as a good year in 2018 as we had in 2017.

May I wish you all a happy Christmas end an enjoyable New Year..
