Our National Sponsors The Eastern Cape Nomads—Away Tours Update
The annual Seaboard trophy is on again after a Covid hiatus. The dates are confirmed as 5,6 and 7 August. For the new
Nomads, this is arguably the next best thing to going to a national tournament. The 5 Cape coastal teams are involved,
Western Cape, Southern Cape, Boland, Eastern Cape and Border.
The hosts are the Southern Cape and they have a choice of world class courses. This year the courses are Oubaai,
Kingswood and George Country Club. If your body and your wallet can manage this schedule; what a weekend of golf it
promises to be.
Winning this event, whilst vital, is closely followed by the great atmosphere and seeing old Nomadic buddies from the
other provinces. Watch out for the boys from the Boland. They have red wine in their veins and have been known to
wreck many a golfers day due to over indulgence the night before.
Unlike Nationals, entry to the event is on a first come, first served basis, so get those entry forms completed and
experience this fantastic weekend.
Regards, Rob Falkner
THE CAPTAINS CORNER
Greetings fellow Nomads,
Firstly I would like to congratulate Rob Falkner on producing a fine newsletter last month. Most enjoyable read with good content.
The response for other clubs was amazing. Keep it going Rob. If you as members feel you need to get involved in any way, please
contact Rob directly. If you don’t have his number, you can find it on the mobile Samson app.
What was initially a blustery day at Walmer GC turned out quite pleasant. My thanks to Gavin Cooper and the staff for a job well
done on the day. Course was set up well and greens were great. I had only positive feedback on the shotgun start. We will certainly
look at doing it again. Thanks also to Morne Heunis from Walmer GC for joining us on the day. My opponents were Kobus Delport and
Colin Broadley, who incidentally collected his first teddy in his Nomads career. Thanks guys, it was great fun.
Our next game scheduled for 17th July has been changed to 10th July at PEGC. This was unfortunate but we will be at Humewood in
September.
Thanks again to the Aubergine Machine ladies, Christell, Joanne, Kelsea and Leonie for your dedication to making our games run
smoothly. Much appreciated.
We are drawing closer to the cut off of games to be played prior to nationals selection criteria is implemented. Play your games
guys. Only 3 to go!!!!
Please be on the lookout for the entry form for Seaboard weekend in August. Looks like another cracker. Enter ASAP please.
A gentle reminder to not leave your GPKO games to the last minute. Get it done.
I remind you all of the reunion of past and current Nomads on Thursday 14th July at PEGC. Chris Edwards and Marin Nefdt are ar-
ranging a 9 hole tournament of old and current Nomads and socialising thereafter. Please enter via Christell van Biljon. Looks to
being a great event.
Wishing you all well until we meet again at PEGC.

Have you entered the 50th anniversary game yet? Have you told all of
your fellow Nomads from across SA?
THE CAPTAINS CORNER - Monthly game payment recon
The more observant of you will have noticed a new form to complete when arriving for the monthly
game. The idea is to try and speed up the process at the registration table. We have also introduced a
credit card machine, making it easier to add all the amounts together and make a single payment. This is
what the form looks like. Please get one as soon as you arrive and complete it before going to the regis-
tration desk. Our hardworking ladies will appreciate your help with this.

THE RULES AND REGULATIONS
The pandemic has had an influence across all spheres of life and Nomads was not spared. I thought we would include
some items to refresh those distant memories from before the Rona.
NEAREST THE PIN
If you have struck the sweetest of shots and end up with the opportunity of writing your name on the nearest the pin
board, then please can you place the nearest the pin marker behind the pin if it is in front of the pin. It would be terri-
ble if a fellow Nomad was denied a hole in one because the marker board impeded the ball on its way to hole. Ask your
marker to confirm the distance to the pin and measure it out behind the pin.
RELIEF FROM TREES AND BUSHES
We tend to take for granted a free drop from a small tree or bush. During a social game this would be fine as we
don’t want to damage the flora on our golf courses. During competition please make sure that you confirm that the
tree is staked. Your marker can confirm this with you and you won’t suffer the indignity of having a penalty for not
checking. If the tree is not staked, check the local rules on the back of the card before playing your shot.
PLAYING THE CORRECT BALL
Please make sure that you are playing the correct ball. We had an incident at the last game and it ended up being
embarrassing for one of the players. He insisted that the ball was his when in fact it turned out not to be so. Maybe
mark your ball with your initial instead of a line, as many of use a standard stencil and this can cause confusion.
The result was a very difficult finish to the round and the offended golfer did not stay for prize giving. Besides the
unhappiness at the situation this also affects the scoring and can cost you a prize.

TUNE ME GRIEF—YOUR TURN TO ASK, WHINGE OR COMMENT
Things seem to be going very well under the new leadership of Howard, Brendon and Rob Rusteberg. There have
been no whinges or comments yet. Maybe its still early days and things will still heat up.
To fill the gap, I have researched golfing terms as there are many things that happen out on the course that can-
not be said in a single word, phrase or sentence. Therefore to assist with your game banter, we have listed a few
examples that you can use to accurately describe a shot or result whilst you are in the midst of your round. The
terms are sure to create great conversation at the 19th long after the anger and frustration has passed.
Tee Box
• An SAA—Failed to get off the ground
• A Zwelinzima Vavi—Great strike but a poor result
• A Zola Budd—Ugly to look at but a good runner
• Best Mates wife—Out of bounds
Approach Play
• A Yasser Arafat – Ugly and in the sand
• Gwede Mantashe — Too much spin
• A Beyonce—A bit chunky but still on the dance floor
Greenside
• An Adolf Hitler – Two shots in the bunker
• A Diego Maradona: A very nasty five footer
• An Elton John – Big bender that lips the rim
Miscellaneous
• A Ladyboy—Looks like an easy hole but all is not what it seems
• Red October—Under water and you wont find it
• Jennifer Aniston—You want to smash the life out of it
• A gynecologist's assistant— Just shaves the hole

Our Next monthly game is at PE Golf club on Sunday 10 July. A change of venue was necessary due to some inter-
national travel commitments by our captain and some of the committee.
Also, please consider the Past and Current Nomads day at PEGC on Thursday 14 July. I’m using Uber that day.
Christelle is waiting for your booking.
Lastly, get those Seaboard entries in. We have a bumper 2 months of great golf to look forward to.
See you all next month.
