Fellow Nomads

A lot has happened since our last game at Wedgwood, most
importantly we sported a team of 21 players at The Royal
Nationals held in Cape Town, unfortunately I have to report
back that we did not manage to win the tournament, however we did finish
in 5th position. I must say I thought we would have been slightly more
competitive with the team we had assembled and the conditions we were
playing in, however it was not meant to be for us this year. Our top golfer of
the week was Cobus van Biljon, who did the province proud on the course!
Eastern Cape was well represented in a number of areas outside of the golf
however, firstly we now have the National Junior Vice Chairman in our
midst, congratulations Stuart McIver and all the best on the coming years, I
know you will do the province proud! Eastern Cape was also fortunate to be
well represented in the lucky draws, most notably John Skinner in the
Glenbrynth barrel draw, winning 3 cases of Glenbrynth and Des White was
the winner of a full set of Taylormade golf clubs! Congratulations to those
two gents as well as all the others who won prizes throughout the week. I
must say it was a privilege to represent the club at this years Nationals and
congratulations to Ken Walker and his team on organizing a superb
tournament! For all those who attended there will be memories that will last
a lifetime.

Onto monthly business and we have just completed my second last game
as Captain. There was some trepidation going into the Uitenhage game

with the current drought, however
I think that all the members were
more than pleasantly surprised by
the condition of the course. The
state of the course can be directly
attributed to Morris Olivier and his
team who have done exceptional
work under very trying

circumstances. In addition to the great condition of the
course, the hospitality was superb and a great day out was
had by all. In future Morris has suggested we play a morning
game and have a braai afterwards which I think is a superb
idea and I feel this will only add to games going forward.

From a playing perspective I thoroughly enjoyed my fourball for the day
which included Morris Olivier from Uitenhage, Steve Pritchard and Allen
Bird. In an incredible turn of events this game was split straight down the
middle and this can only be attributed to the playing ability of Morris who in
turn had the best score on the day. I managed to go from hero to zero and
narrowly missed on the teddy bear! Prizegiving went off without any major
issues, however it has been pointed out to me by senior members that in
future we need the members to keep quiet while we are doing the
prizegiving as this lengthens the process and is not in keeping with the
ethics of the club. On the awards front, we had 2 tie awards, a 15 year tie to
Mark Verwey and a 5 year tie to Rob Falkner. Congratulations gents on
reaching these milestones and I hope you have many more years with the
club! In addition to the tie awards I received my Silver Salver from the
previous game, Ian will receive his at the Humewood game.

I would just like to remind you all of the AGM on the 9 April, which will be
held at Port Elizabeth Golf Club at
18:00. For those new to the club, this
will be a report back on the past year as
well as the election of office bearers
for the coming year. Please do make an
effort to attend.

Our next game will be at Humewood on
12 April and will be a weekday game

Until Humewood …….

JVC News

Good day Fellow Nomads

The Uitenhage game back to an afternoon tee off went
well with a big field. Day started off a little bumpy as I
forgot the closet to the pins prize's and had to fetch as I think there would
have been a couple of disgruntled golfers.

Once again Trash (S.Ryan) got involved with the birthday taxi and invited
too many guests, luckily all turned out well.

Thanks to Paul and Dennis in setting up the alter and all for assisting in
setting up. My apologies for the whiskey and milk getting there at 10-30 am.
Thanks to all the alter bunnies for packing the alter away. Thanks to the
equipment officer and to the ladies.

Next game my last as J.V.C will be at Humewood to be played on a Thursday

see you all there Embroiderite
