Fellow Nomads,
What fantastic weather Port Elizabeth dished out for
us on Sunday. Hardly a breath of wind, not something
we are really used to.
A smaller than usual field, just 59 but it seems great
fun was had by all with a number of Nomads staying at
the club till the bitter end.
I would like to thank my playing 4 ball, Captain of PEGC, Andre
Heunis and our opponents, Rob Griffiths and Steve Pritchard. After
scoring 1 point on the 1st nine, Steve came back strong on the back
with 11 points! Amazing a Glenbrynth at Halfway does!
As well as Andre and I played, we could only tied 3rd in the playing
pairs on 68 points – not good enough to beat the 71 shot by Jason
Aitken and Robert Rustenberg with our JVC and Benji $50 Zhang on

So good to have Ken Russel back in the field after
many a month caring for Steph – nice to have you back
Ken.
Also joining us after a sabbatical was Stuart McLeod –
and back in the prizes!
We had a visiting Nomad from Natal, Richard
Andersson – hope you enjoyed the day with the Eastern Cape
Nomads.
Part of the reason of our smaller than usual field was due to 12 of our
Nomads representing us in the Southern Cape at Pinnacle Point.
Chris King was in the best playing 4-ball and coming 2nd in the
playing pairs.
Really great to have Glenbrynth and SAB sponsoring us again – Our
registration table and welcome drink area really looked great
(thanks Brendon) – I hope you all manage to get a starter for the day!
The Castle Lite really went down after the game – hope you guys all
enjoyed it.
The registration App is working well and I thank you all for accepting
this new way of entering the game so well. We do need to improve
on the payment side.
When entering, please pay the same time and send Proof Of
Payment to our secretary, David Gooden on the following email:
[email protected].
This is really important so we can update the spreadsheet,
indicating that you have paid so you will be allowed to play on the
day. Email or sending a WhatsApp to David will make our life a lot
easier and stop us having to chase those who have not paid or
showing us that you have done so.
I would like to touch on the subject of Golf Carts. In the past, we just
let members book their own carts at the respective club. This
caused chaos as some 4-balls had 3 carts and some none causing
members to cancel. I then decided to try and manage the carts in
our booking sheet. This led to some members saying the draw is
Ian Mitch Rob
Macaulay v.d. Putte Lansdell
Stuart Pops Michael
McLeod Govender Duff
Captains News (Cont)
rigged which I can prove to anyone it isn’t. But in
trying to help the draw with available carts has now led
to other problems! I can’t believe that trying to help
people actually gets me into trouble??? So, from
June, it will be back to members calling the club and
booking their own carts as we did in the past - lets see
what that brings us.
On a more fun note, I
played golf at St
Francis Bay on
Saturday and after the
game in the pup, was
introduced to a past
Nomad from Natal.
May I say, a very
dedicated one too!
A Nomads bell tatooed
on his derriere!
There is one for the
books
I hope to get Garry
Milford to join us at our next game at SFB
I hope to see as many of you at Belmont in Grahamstown – we need
to support all clubs in our area – it's the right thing to do.
Yours in Nomads,
Ian Gooden

Vice Captain Update
Hi Fellow Nomads,
We are eternally grateful to our ladies so again a
huge thank you!! Then to Port Elizabeth ”Gqeberha”
Golf Club and staff a very big thank you for all the
arrangements made to accommodate the Nomads
and to ensure that we tee off on time. We had a
group of Eastern Cape Nomads visit Southern Cape and play
Pinnacle Point from some of the scores I received they might have
done themselves an injustice by playing there, but I am sure the
experience of play the course in perfect condition would have
been more that satisfying.
The AMT Committee was announced and to those that were not
present the members are listed below in no particular order:
· Karl Rohroff Brendon McNiell
·· Tyrell Polglase Jason Saunders
· Chris King· Jason Aitken
· Patrick Gumunyu· Andre Weitz
· Gary Sampson· Rob Lansdell
· Robert Rusteburg· Ian Gooden
· David Gooden· Denis Jones
· Allen Bird· Martin Kunhardt
· Jurgens Van Onselen
I think with this group of gentlemen we definitely not have a
problem raising funds for Cheshire Holmes. I urge all Nomads that
are able to get involved in any way as either sponsors or attendees
at the fundraisers to please do so, there are some worthwhile
projects that need to be completed for Cheshire Holmes.
Hoping to see big numbers at our next round at Belmont Golf
Club…

Dear Fellow Nomads
Thank you to all the Nomads that participated in the
monthly game at PEGC. The field exceeded our
expectations taking into consideration that we had a
number of Nomads on Tour in the Southern Cape. It
would appear that the touring Nomads did exceedingly well
cleaning up in the prizes at the Southern Cape's monthly game.
Well Done to all those who cleaned up.
Back at home, we had a pleasant outing at PEGC. The host club
was very accommodating and handled all our requirements in a
very professional manner. I would also like to thank them for
providing the milk for our welcome drinks and their hospitality. I
received no complaints on the day, just a couple of queries which
have been resolved. There was a slight issue with regards to slow
play within Nomads, something we will have to investigate and
hopefully find a solution. Thanks to all those who participated, our
ladies and the sponsors. Congratulations to the Prize Winners.
Thank you to my covey of Davey Gooden, Scary Bosch and “50
Buck” Zhang. It was a great day of camaraderie and banter. Always
a pleasure to take full house off young Davey.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Cobus van
Biljon on his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. It is also great to see
Ken Russell back in the thick of things again.
To try and ensure that all Nomads received a welcome drink, we
experimented by pouring the whiskey prior to the arrival of the
members. This seemed to work pretty well and it appeared that
everyone got to have a welcome drink. Thanks to Jurgens Van
Onselen (the teddy winner at WGC) for taking on this task. We are
giving consideration to making this a tradition that the Teddy
winner pours the whiskey at the following game.
See you at Belmont.
Yours in Nomads.
