Well done to Chantalle, Ania, Emma, Lucas, Lizzie, Rachel,
Elizabeth and Lucinda who helped out to make the French room
a vibrant and welcoming language space for our Open Day. They
enjoyed talking to our lovely visitors. Thank
you to all parents who brought these keen
language learners into school on Saturday.

A fine time was had by staff and pupils alike on the 5S class trip to St. Omer on the 5-7th October.
The weather kept dry, and the journeys went smoothly. The group enjoyed shopping in the Auchan supermarket, visiting
the local boulangerie for breakfast items, and of course practising their French in the shops and restaurants. Friday's trip
to the Sea Life Centre at Nausicaa was a memorable occasion!
Ten Pin Bowling was popular, with an epic battle between Miss Compton and Mr. Slattery's teams, Miss Compton's team
prevailing on the final 'bowl' of the evening. The group then enjoyed a fine meal at Le Carre restaurant. The trip was also
notable for being Mr. Wood's 50th trip to 'Maison Claremont'. Mr Slattery.

6E playing in the mornings. Making a domino run, playing top trumps,
building 3D models, drawing.

We are very sad to report that
Minnie has passed away. We have a
book in the Chapel if the children
would like to write down their
favourite memories of Minnie.

U8
The Year 3 girls are really enjoying their
netball this term (as am I). They are
beginning to understand the game and play
some nice netball at times.

U8 v Derwent Lodge
The Y3 girls could
hardly contain their excitement about going in the
minibus to their first ever away game. In fact the game
was almost irrelevant to them! In fact they did rather well with one draw and one narrow loss. The
progress they are making is really evident.
POM: Maggie and Olive

1st XI 4 - 1 Rose Hill
This week we played a triangular v Rose Hill and Battle Abbey. With several key first team players not playing, it gave
some 2nds the chance to come up and play. Our first game finished 4-1 and we played some exceptional football. Rose Hill
defending deep and in numbers but we managed to get through with some quick football and we scored through Ander.
We then got a second when, unfortunately, Rose Hill handballed in the area and Will de W made no mistake and slotted it
into the top right hand corner. Straight from Rose Hill's kick off, Artem regained possession and went on an amazing run
beating several players and scoring in the far corner. Great goal. After half time Ogom then finished it off with a really
good free kick into the top corner. Man of the match - Marley N for his great footwork and skill.
1st XI 0 - 0 Battle Abbey
This turned out to be a frustrating game as Claremont had all the ball and created several good opportunities, however,
we didn't find the back of the net. The boys tried to play football but Battle Abbey had a solid defence and time and
time again they kept putting in late blocks and interceptions. We hit the post and had one off the line and you knew it
wasn't quite going to be our day. Man of the Match was Lucas de O who played well at the back and was calm when
needed to be, and brought the ball out in defence with great presence of mind. Unlucky, boys, and we go again next week
when we play Marlborough House for the final game of the season.
1st XI 1 - 2 St Andrew’s
Last week we played a strong St Andrew’s team. Claremont started really well, keeping the ball for long periods and
playing some excellent football. The deadlock was broken mid way through the half when Lawrence nicked the ball off
their centre half and he drove into the box to then lob the keeper. Really good finish. Freddie S, pulled off a couple of
good saves to take us 1-0 up at half time. St Andrews came out strong in the second half and scored to make it 1-1, both
sides had chances and at times the game turned a little scrappy, with us losing our width and depth. St Andrews then
scored to make it 2-1 with a powerful shot into the corner of the goal. What was pleasing was their heads didn't drop
and they kept playing and could have drew the game when a shot just went over the cross bar. A draw would have been a
fair result however St Andrew’s did well to hold on. Man of the Match - Freddie S.
U11C and U10C
The U11C and U10C teams played a triangular with St Ronan’s. Both the Claremont teams played football with a passing
style and had the right concepts. The technical elements of the game require some practice.
Patrick O scored two goals.
U9 Ashford Football Tournament
Claremont 1 - 1 Ashford Prep
We were pitted against the hosts first in out group. Ashford had lots of the play and, had it not been for the solid
defending of Toby N and Ethan W, we could have been a couple of goals down. However Ashford got the goal they
deserved. However against the run of play Ethan W burst through their defence and scored a late equaliser. Man of the
Match - Thomas W who never stopped running.
Claremont 0 - 2 Kingsnorth
It has to be one of the strangest games played, Claremont had a lot of chances; we hit the post and bar, but their keeper
made several good saves. However, Kingsnorth scored two goals on the break! Lesson to be learnt, mark and stay with
your attackers at all times. However the boys shouldn't be too despondent as they played some really good football. Man
of the Match - Ethan W who worked tirelessly in attack.
Claremont 2 - 0 Marlborough House
Knowing a win would send us through to the Cup quarter finals, the boys were really up for this one. Again like the last
game, it was all Claremont and we had several good chances to score. The breakthrough came when Ethan W ran onto a
long pass and was very composed and went round the defender to smash home the first goal. The second goal came
through an excellent cross from Ethan W to Oli M who prodded it in to goal from close range. Man of the Match - Cosmo
M for his positional play and tackling.

Cup Quarter Final
Claremont 1 - 4 Sutton Valence
We finished 2nd in the group to get into the Cup round and we came up
against a very strong Sutton Valence team. We worked very hard and
defended well in numbers, however, they could strike the ball hard and
scored 4 really good goals. Nevertheless, we didn't stop running and got a
goal back through Ethan W again. Thomas W went on a mazy run at the end
and was very unlucky not to score. Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the
boys worked hard and played some excellent football. Behaviour was spot on
and they were good ambassadors for the school. Well done!

Ethan W and Sam Howes Watford shot
stopper.

1st VII v St Ronans
After an easy win and a difficult loss over the last two weeks, it was great to have such an even and exciting game.
Unusually all of the goals came from short corners, although there were lots of other opportunities from both sides.
Result: Lost 2-1 POM: Eve S voted by St Ronan’s, Issy M voted by Miss Holmes.
U11As v St Andrew’s
The U11A's played a closely contested match away at St Andrew’s last week. St Andrew’s had a 1-0 lead at half time.
After a shot took an unfortunate deflection off our GK’s pads and into the Claremont goal. Claremont showed great
determination in the second half. Lili H was excellent in defence and made a number of goal saving tackles but the fatigue
was starting to show from the Claremont girls and St Andrew’s scored again with a fast break. Emma P scored for
Claremont to make it 2-1 after some good link-up play and Amelia B delivered some great through balls into the D but
unfortunately our attacking line failed to capitalise. St Andrew’s managed to slot home another shortly before the final
whistle to make the final score 3-1. Player of the Match: Amelia McC.
U11B
It has been a very exciting start to the hockey season with matches against Ashford Prep, Moira House and St Andrew’s.
The U11B team have worked well together, producing solid performances in every match. They have been dedicated to
improving their skills in attack and defence and are becoming much more tactically aware. The highlight of the season so
far was our triangular against Moira House. We had a convincing win against their U11B team 4-0 and beat their U11A team
2-0. Some brilliant goals were scored and there was some excellent goal keeping on display.
A special mention must go to Tess R, Darci B and Olivia W who have been crowned the Players of the Match so far this
season. Ms Smith
U11A v St Ronan's
The U11As played a closely contested match at home against St Ronan's this week.
St Ronan's started the stronger team and had a 0-1 lead at half time but Claremont levelled the score early in the second
half with a well taken goal from Rosie B. Sadly, St Ronan's scored in the last minute of the game to snatch victory. Final
score: 1-2. Player of the Match was Amelia B.
U11C
We played two 15 minute matches. We defended very well and didn’t concede any goals. Unfortunately, we didn’t score any
either! St Ronan’s chose Darci as Player of the Match. Mrs Gurney.

Years 4, 5, & 6 Swimming Gala Claremont 121 - 157 Battle Abbey

Our Year 4, 5, & 6 swimmers competed last Monday in a swimming gala v Battle Abbey. We invited Stanley Y and Scarlett

van E to swim up from Year 3 to Year 4 and they both did a fantastic job. We had a couple of new faces in Year 4 with

William S joining the boys’ team. Some where competing in their very first gala. As you can imagine, being up at the start

line, with lots of parents watching as well as over 60 swimmers, can be a daunting experience but they handled the

nerves really well. Our Year 4s gave us our best overall totals, with the girls competing really well in some tight races.

Special mention to Amelie F who won both her Breaststroke and Front crawl races. The boys in Year 4 came out on top

and gave us our best overall results winning 4 of the 5 races including both relays, James S winning the Breast stroke

race and Ben F winning the Back stroke race. The Year 5s have a good girls squad, Tess R won her Breaststroke race, and

were close in a couple of races. The boys who have the smallest squad again swam very well and against a strong Abbey

side. The Year 6s have strong girls and boys squads and I was pleased with their efforts as they came in close on several

races to make it very competitive and exciting. We had a lot of 2nd places finishes out of 4 competing in those races.

Well done to all our swimmers once again. Results were as follows:

CL BA

Year 4 Girls 21 23

Year 4 Boys 25 19

Year 5 Girls 19 25

Year 5 Boys 16 28

Year 6 Girls 21 30

U14 v Bedes
The girls tried to talk themselves out of the game before a ball was pushed or hit! We had our normal team talk and play
began. the girls played well and worked on the concepts we have tried to instil in training. The score was 0-0 at half
time and the game was for the taking; mistakes having been learnt from last week, when we were in the same
position. The response in the second half from the girls was great as they dominated the second half and Cathryn G
scored her second goal of the season, which in the end was the decisive goal. A great 1-0 win. Players Player of the
Match went to Julia M but the Manager’s Player of the Match went to Cathryn G, for her setup when we she did not
have the ball.

RW have been busy making maps for the Bee Bots using ginormous
pieces of paper. We have also been looking at how different shapes fit
together and have made some amazing shape pictures.

Making Venn diagrams from hoops.

This week in Foxes we have really focused on mark making and creating different shapes with
everything we do:

On Monday we went to the big playground and designed our very own playground pictures with
chalk. Once we had finished, we enjoyed painting over the chalk with water, watching it all
disappear.

On Tuesday we travelled to Paris with Mrs B, to learn a brand new song! We also enjoyed baking
again this week - we made scrummy yummy scones!

On Wednesday we enjoyed our amazing Forest School session with Mrs Exley, walking through
streams and all the oozy mud and also drawing with sticks!

On Thursday we sang our hearts out, practising all our new songs for all the amazing events
coming up soon! Keep your eyes peeled for our performance dates!

On Friday we got very messy creating patterns with shaving foam and writing our first initial of
our names in the foam! We also enjoyed creating marks with the sand too!

This week, we have had a wonderful time partying as it was Mya's last day and also Woody's birthday! This was a sad time but
we made it exciting by playing games and eating cake! In addition to this we have been getting creative out in the forest by
making leaf crowns, selecting leaves of different sizes and patterns to decorate crowns with.

We have also been mark making on the playground floor and erasing our marks with water, developing our gross motor skills.

This week the Hedgehogs have been looking at insects and the
habitat. We have created a nature tray full of pretend bugs, and have
been counting their legs, talking about where they live, and what they
eat. We have also been on a bug hunt in the garden and found spiders,

flies and ants. In addition to this we have been looking at insect
books and singing bug songs.

This week in Robins we have started to make spiders out of egg
cups and bats to hang in our home corner, which we are turning
into a Halloween cove! We have also been doing very well at
being kind to each other and learning to share the toys and
pencils at the mark making table. Well done, Robins.

This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have enjoyed making
Hedgehogs out of playdough, cooking cheese Hedgehogs to
take home for their Mummies and Daddies (which where
rather delicious) and going for a Hedgehog walk in the woods.
We would really appreciate it if all items of clothing,
including shoes, could be labelled. Thank you.

This week we celebrated two birthdays! Happy birthday to
Danny who joined Squirrels this week and the lovely
Evangeline.

We also started looking at the festival Diwali and showed the
children pictures of the celebrations and started
experimenting with clay to make candle holders.

Pyke House

The term is going very quickly!
Everyone is looking forward to a
nice break from studying hard. I’m
sure everyone is excited about
going back home to see their
friends and families.

Everyone has worked very hard in
school and in the boarding house.
Our House Heads Maja Matyja and
James Li have done an incredible
job supporting boarders and staff
members.

Before going away for the break
our boarders got a chance to be a
part of very historical and
important event to British culture,
the re-enactment of the Battle of
Hastings. It takes place every year
on the second weekend of
October. It is a thrilling event.

The first exciting activity, after we come back from half-term, will be Go Karting in Brighton. Our returning boarders already
know how exciting and competitive Go Karting can get; hopefully our new boarders will enjoy it as much. There will also
be Battle Bonfire Night on 4th November 2017, right after the boarders return from half-term. It’s a free event and everyone
is welcome to attend.

Written by one of the Boarders at Clyde House:

"It's good and it's fun, we have a lot of privileges here. My
favourite part is the common room and the weekends.

The common room there are a lot of activities we get to do.
On the weekend can go to town and we get to relax with our
friends.

In school you learn a lot and in the boarding house it's good
because it's like your home and it encourages you to live
independently."

EAL Student.

I’m Johan Delvaux, I am 15 year old from
Denmark and France. I moved from Dubai to
London, as my father was transferred thus

making me an international student. I’m
currently a weekly boarder sharing a room
with Antony Pitsiladis who is Greek and with
Lawrence Awojobi who is from Nigeria as well
as being in the Football Academy. Clyde House
has made all boarders more independent of
themselves ,however ,we do sometimes still need

help from Ms Hurton making our beds.
Boarding life is fun and eventful, there's never
a dull moment and we've already made many

new friends!
