Girls 1st VIII Cricket League Match v Bede’s

Bedes: 145-1
Claremont: 76-1

Girls U13A v Roedean
Claremont 247 - 233 Roedean
Mary and Amba opened the bowling beautifully. Well done Lucinda,
Amba and Mary for taking wickets when bowling. We batted
excellently as well, batting into gaps in the field which enabled us to
score lots of runs. Great effort from everyone, a well-deserved win.
Miss Compton.

Girls U11B v Ashford Prep
Batting first, the Claremont girls put on a reasonable score of 236 for the loss of only one wicket, scoring lots
of 1s and 2s with good backing up and quick running. Top batting pair for Claremont were Evie and Sapphire
with 11 runs. The Ashford girls, however, simply hit the ball harder and further, running more 4s (no boundaries
in this game). We did however claim more Ashford wickets (5 in total). Hattie B, Eadie and Rosie all clean
bowled a wicket each and Hattie B also threw down a wicket with quick, sharp fielding. Chantalle impressed in
the field with some impressive dives to save runs for her team.
POM (voted by AP): Evie S
POM (voted by Miss H) : Chantalle
Result: Claremont 236 for 1 Ashford Prep 260 for 5

Girls U11A v Ashford Prep
The U11As played a chilly and damp game away at Ashford Prep this week. Despite the inclement weather it was
a close game with both teams batting and bowling well.
Ashford finished overall winners by 25 runs ( having taken more wickets over the two innings ).
Player of the Match this week was Izzy W.

Girls U11C v Ashford Prep
This lucky team had two games on Wednesday against Ashford's U11C and D teams. We narrowly lost them
both, however, the girls had a fab afternoon with lots of action. Chanel grabbed two consecutive wickets and
narrowly missed out on a magical hat trick.
POM Game 1: Hattie Hawkes
POM Game 2: Anna Irvine-Capel
Girls U13 Football v The Marsh Academy

The girls had great fun playing football against the marsh academy, in
the pouring rain! We conveyed great control and skills on the ball.
Playing on a full-sized, grass pitch was a great experience for the
girls, top stuff, well done! Miss Compton.

A great first week back - Eliza was enjoying her Finley made this fantastic shark and a little habitat for him at

friends with Grace the pony! There are only two
spaces left on our Wednesday club if you would
like to join us- just see Miss Flanigan.

Both Reception classes went out to explore "How long is a whale
shark?" We had already learnt that it was 12 metres long last week,
but we weren't sure how long 12 metres really was! So using chalk and
a trundle wheel we measured it on the playground with chalk.
Afterwards ,the children added their own chalk creations and
compared lengths.

Year 2 are studying plants this term, and the different parts of a plant.
We have linked this with our non-fiction writing and went outside to find some inspiration.

Year 1 have been reading and recounting the Diary of the Killer Cat. They have been writing newspaper reports on the
facts from the diary and then later in the week they debated the facts in Mrs Luff’s courtroom!

Some of Pre-Prep spent
Friday afternoon in the
garden with Mrs Willard.
They enjoyed putting on
their gardening gloves and
pulling out the over grown
Brussels sprouts! They
were rather large and
needed a team effort to
help pull them out! They
then enjoyed planting
some sweet peas just
before the rain came!

the woods. We then
enjoyed the task of
collecting as many
sticks & branches as
we could to build a
tower. Teamwork was
the key and all the
children did really well

with this.

Year 1 played 'shop' buying items with different coins up to 10p. Our
shop keepers did a wonderful job at working out the change!

We had so much fun in our busy shop!

Year 1 have been busy finding 1/2 a number.

and badges!

Another fun session - Thank you to Issy B and Chiara K (who
were this week's Sports' Leaders) along with Justin D from
the Senior School.

Whilst at Forest School this week, we noticed that Spring has sprung in the Secret Lake in the
form of lots and lots of tadpoles. We enjoyed studying them as they swam in our lidded collecting
pots, before gently returning them to their home.

Our science activity was making jelly from jelly crystals. This provided a sensory experience, as
well as a chance to observe "change of state" and to chat about healthier treats (we used fruit
juice to boost the nutritional value of our jelly). The next day this activity culminated in a tasting
session at snack time. Delicious!

This week, the Kingfishers have been talking about holidays, either ones they are going on or ones
they have previously been on. We made our own paper aeroplanes and made a number line airport
outside, for our maths activity. We threw the aeroplanes as far as we could to see what number
they landed on. We have also been busy finishing our arts and crafts for our display 'The Singing
Mermaid'. The Badgers have been busy being creative this week, creating their own multi-media
pictures using a variety of resources. We have also been exploring the topic of 'People Who Help
Us', looking at the people who help us in our day to day lives, both at home and at Claremont. The
children were able to create some amazing representations of their parents and staff that work
closely with the children. Lastly, we have been using the Bee-Bot in our phonics session this week,
helping programme its movements to travel to the correct sound.

This week, the Hedgehogs told us how they saw the motorbikes over the Bank Holiday. To support
everyone's interests, we have played with the train track, made motorbike pictures, created a real
train with the chairs, and had bike races in the garden.

This week in Robins we have been busy practising our fine motor skills. We have been attempting to
thread cotton reels onto string and using our threading toys as well as sorting out our coloured
teddies into the correct coloured pots. We have also been continuing with our texture theme and
have been busy sticking different materials and drawing with the chalks. Later on in the week we
hope to go on a lovely welly walk to splash in the puddles.

This week the Ducklings and Butterflies have started their theme on growing, by planting their cress
seeds, watching their potatoes sprout and listening to a lovely story about a flower growing. Towards
the end of the week, both rooms enjoyed a visit down to the Jubilee Garden to look at all the lovely
things growing there.
A big welcome to Riyan who has started this week in Ducklings.

We hope you all had a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend. This week we have been looking at all
types of plants and flowers. We have been exploring the colours, size and where they grow.
We have been taking care of our plants outside the nursery and started growing runner beans
for the Jubilee Garden.

As we mentioned previously, we have two new boarders who
joined us after Easter: Mark and Matvii P (twins in the
cinema picture). Both boys are already enjoying our
boarding activities.

We had a new addition to our entertainment equipment at
the boarding house - table football. Everyone seems to love
it, especially the girls!

On 24 June 2017 we will be organising an end of term BBQ
party at the Boarding House. To celebrate the end of a
successful academic year and say goodbye to Year 13
boarders who will not be returning in September. We are
very sad to be saying goodbye, but luckily it’s not just yet.
We would like to invite day students to take part in this
activity.

Going forward we would like to invite day students to
participate in all our boarding activities. Posters with
upcoming activities will be displayed around the school.
