Friends of Claremont School (FOCS)

FOCS is a registered charity that raises funds for projects that
benefits every child in the school, across all year groups. We also
support school events in practical ways such as providing bars and
refreshment stalls.

We are a committee of parents and friends of the school which is
supported by a network of volunteers who help out at events.
Some of our events include: Build a Bonfire, Bonfire Night,
Christmas Bazaar, Easter Egg Hunt and the school uniform shop is
managed and staffed by our committee members.

The school uniform shop, at the Prep School, is open on:

Mondays 8:15 – 9:15

Tuesdays 15:30 – 16:30

The opening times for the Senior School with be confirmed later
this month.

FOCS is always looking for new committee members
or volunteers during events. If you are interested

please make contact with one of our committee
members.

Henry attended the St Michael’s
Hospice Horse Show at
Catsfield.

This was was his first show on
his pony Lola and they came 2nd
in the working hunter pony and
3rd in condition and turnout.

This was a tremendous
achievement for his first show.
Well done!

Monday's assembly was taken by
two volunteers from Cancer
Research. They came to
acknowledge the fantastic
achievement of Claremont Prep
pupils, raising £2,672.25 for the
charity. Pam and Sue from
Cancer Research described how
the money will be used to research further Cancer treatments and how the funds
can support those living with Cancer. This fantastic sum of money was raised from the sponsorship of students
to completing the Wacky Fun Run at the end of last year, as well as the sale of wrist bands and cakes during the
event. The team of Year 7 (now Year 8) pupils aimed to raise £2000 and so are overwhelmed by the support
everyone gave. Cancer Research have also offered some pupils the opportunity to visit their Genome Damage
and Stability Research Centre based at Brighton University. Our budding Scientists are carrying out
independent work in preparation for their visit in November. A BIG 'thank you' and 'well done' to all the Prep
School Pupils that raised money...the aim of showing support and love to a very special member of staff was
definitely achieved.

Girls 1st VII Hockey v Ashford School
A really encouraging start from the newly formed 1st VII against Ashford's Y8 team. All I asked of them was effort and
commitment and this was delivered in bucketloads by each and every player on Wednesday. We worked on reacting 'fast' in
attack and creating 'blocks' in defence and the girls grasped the concepts well. Both of our goals were finished off by Eve S
with two well taken strikes. POM: Izzy W.
Result: Won 2-1. Miss Holmes

2nds vs. Ashford
Claremont 0 - 3 Ashford. The girls played really well in their first hockey game of the season. They displayed some fabulous
stick skills to beat defenders and had lots of opportunities to score goals. The girls discovered that by playing the ball
'wide', they had more success. Therefore, they must continue to practise 'going wide' and they should also practise their
shooting to improve. Well done, girls: great effort from everyone. Miss Compton.

Colts A

Lost 2-1 in a close game against Dulwich Prep School. Sami H scored a goal for a young
Claremont side in a closely contested game which could have been even closer had
Claremont started playing earlier. Man of the match was Luca R, who shored things up at
the back and allowed us to spring forward.

U9As
A one-sided affair against Rose Hill. Our opponents had more experience and were all club players. They made their qualities
obvious early on and led by 3 goals at half time. The second half marked an improvement in the effort from the team, but
unfortunately we conceded 4 more goals. Oliver H scored a well taken goal. Man of the match was the tireless James F.

2nds
Claremont started off slowly and only managed to stay in the game thanks to some great saves from Max G. However it
wasn't long until Dulwich scored their opener. Unfortunately, a fluke of a second goal knocked the wind out of the Claremont
boys. Thankfully half-time arrived and the boys woke up and put in a much better second half with Frank T tapping in, off a
great double save from the goalkeeper. However, they couldn't seem to find the net again. Claremont had some of the best
chances in the second half and the man of the match performance from Harrison, who got up the wing well from full back,
provided a real treat.

holiday diaries. Well done!
We learned the Forest School ‘call’ and explored our boundaries. We
looked at the different terrain and played "follow my leader" -
copying different actions.

After playing in the woods a whole we collected different coloured
leaves in groups to create a large picture!

Edward wandered off on Saturday morning and
got busy making this go cart/car, completely on
his own with no prompting at all from anyone; he
found all the bits he needed, worked out how to
fasten it together, then how to make it actually
work/go. Finally, he thought of ways it would be
useful and has been adapting all weekend for
various tasks.

This week in Foxes we have been very busy exploring our new routines and activities!

On Monday we enjoyed an amazing PE lesson with Miss Flanigan, where we learnt about different
ways of travelling and moving.

On Tuesday we became master chefs and baked our very own rock cakes!

On Wednesday we had an amazing adventure in the Forest School with Mrs Exley! We learnt lots
about caring for the land around us.

On Thursday we loved making and completing our very own obstacle course, learning whether to
go over or under the apparatus.

On Friday we got to explore the adventure playground. We loved climbing and waving to Miss
Greenfields.

This week, the Badgers have had their creative hats on! We started off the week by looking at a
map of the world and guessing where we lived. Mya then proposed a question asking where Santa
lived. This then led us on to talk about the weather and we started to paint on the stereotypical
colours associated with warmth, painting red, yellow and orange onto the hot countries as well as
using white and blue for colder weather. This then turned into a huge colour mixing session which was enjoyed by all.

We have also been creating nature pictures, using grass, leaves and flowers to create a fantastic picture! On top of this, we
have enjoyed our Forest School session with Mrs. Exley, discovering the forest and jumping in the long grass.

This week the Hedgehogs have been looking at colours. We have created
our own colour interest tray by finding red objects from around the room.
We have also been exploring colours and how they change when mixed
together, this has been a great conversation activity. The Hedgehogs and
Squirrels have enjoyed exploring our new mud kitchen which was kindly
made for the nursery by Charlotte Thorley's husband during the summer.

This week in Robins we have been making birthday cakes for
our birthday board as well as exploring the corrugated
cardboard and we had a lovely splashing time with the water
play. The Robins would also like to welcome Kya.

This week the Ducklings have had a busy week painting their ducks for the
birthday board, mark making using the playdough and singing with the
puppets.
The Butterflies have really enjoyed painting their Butterflies, water play
with bubbles and water animals and filling and then emptying the tea set with
pine-cones.
Both rooms have made the most of the sunshine by playing outside on the
soft play and with the utensils in our new mud kitchen.

This week we have been exploring the weather. As it has
been hard to get outside we got creative making our own

umbrellas and rain drop pictures. We have also been
exploring our gel beads and investigating how much water

they need to grow.

We are delighted and proud to welcome new boarders into our big boarding
family. We are pleased with the way they are adapting to their new life in
our school. Our existing students have also returned and are thriving. This
year we have boarders from 15 different countries living in Pyke House. We
are planning a lot of exiting activities for this term, which will include trips
to London to attend a West End show, Winter Wonderland, and of course
our traditional trips to the cinema and bowling. It’s the beginning of a very
exciting year for boarders and the staff.

Boys from 16 countries around the world have quickly and happily settled in
to their fantastically appointed home in St Leonards. Some are familiar old
faces whilst others are brand new. It has been lovely to welcome them all.
Our first weekend as a house was busy and fun. The Claremont football
academy boarders had a weekend of fitness and stamina training. They
returned home ravenous each evening and did full justice to the excellent
suppers provided by Charlotte and Kai. For those in the house not training,
there was a post brunch finding-your-feet trip to Hastings which was hugely
popular.
On Tuesday evening Mr Patel chaired the first boarding house meeting
which gave the boys the opportunity to express their views about life at
Clyde.
On the 13th September, we joined together to celebrate the 19th Birthday
of Aaron Su. Congratulations and Happy Birthday from us all.
